"Batman Versus Robin" News & Discussion Thread (Spoilers)

So it is based on the Court of Owls. Didn't Tucker make a huge stink about the fact that the movie wasn't based on that storyline when the movie was first announced?
Tucker simply stated it is not an adaptation of the Court of Owls storyline. I think it will be along the lines of how Son of Batman is loosely inspired by Batman and Son but it is not a literal adaptation. In the conventions and Paley events since the New 52 canon started, it's been stressed the stories will become less and less literal adaptations and more and more original.

Yeah, and even Throne of Atlantis, while relatively faithful, took a lot of liberties for the story. If anything, it seems like this is less of an adaption of Court of Owls and more taking elements from different storylines and incorporating them into the ongoing Batman and Robin development.

For those interested, a small gallery of screengrabs from the Batman Versus Robin trailer can be found at The World's Finest.

While it's nice to have an earlier than normal release date AND a commentary... the special features seem a little sparse this time around.

They may not be literal adaptations, but they are still adaptations none the less.

I know this is a little nitpick, but I noticed it seems like WB has already abandoned the consistent packaging for these titles with Batman Versus Robin. The spines look the same - movie name and character pic - but the cover has removed the bottom logo and banner. The DC logo is above and the movie line name floats above the logo. I know this is a nitpick but it's disappointing that DC is already ditching the consistent design.

On the Throne of Atlantis disc, the preview seemed to shed a bit more light. Makes sense that to Damian, the Court of Owls is a temptation to go back to his old life of privilege and freedom in light of his frustration with Bruce keeping him a secret from the public and basically keeping him prisoner at Wayne Manor. And based on this preview and the short, Talon sees Robin as a protege/successor to bring into the fold. And probably just an easter egg that Oliva planted but when they talk about the voice actors/characters, in the Dollmaker section they show locations
He appears to use a Schott's Toy factory as his lair.... so the Anton Schott version. Neat they used a Supergirl villain in this movie as the set up villain like with Scarecrow in Throne of Atlantis.

Talon sees Robin as a protege/successor

And I love that idea because it can really help develop the relationship between Bruce and Damian... But they're using the wrong characters. Going by the storyline this is adapting, the character Damian wants to work with and ends up turning on Bruce as a result of that was Nobody, who has nothing to do with the Court. He did have a personal connection with Bruce, and that would offer a better source of conflict for Bruce and Damian, I think. On the other hand, Talon saw Dick Grayson, his great-grandson IIRC, as his successor, and that was important to the whole storyline.

At this point however, it's clear that this movie is doing its own thing, and so while I am disappointed, it's time to let go of these complaints, stop beating a dead horse, and just watch the movie, I guess. I'll keep these things to myself from now on, I wouldn't want to bring down the hype people who are really looking forward to this movie may be feeling.

I feel just as conflicted about this as you do. Dick already barely gets any screen time in these movies and this would've been a great way to include him. Atleast the angle they chose makes story sense.

Well, we can still hope the 2016 Batman movie will be Nightwing-centered.

At least Nightwing is in the movie, even if his involvement won't be as important as you'd expect for a story focusing on the Court of Owls. I'm still wondering when we'll see what the rest of the Bat-Family looks like in this universe .

Well, who knows. They might seed that in this movie whether it's one references or two second cameos. At NYCC last year, Tucker seemed to strongly hint at a larger Bat-Family being the works. So a matter of time. Probably before they start streaming the movies right into our brains.

After having seen the trailer for this, I am both eager to see this movie, yet worried about it at the same time. Mostly because i fear where it's going to leave Damian at the end.

Phil Bourassa posted two screengrabs - might have been from the trailer or sneak peek. Can't recall right now. But he did hint 'a super talented studio in Japan' did the animation. And based on what we've seen, I'm 99.9% he was alluding to The Answer Studio, who did Son of Batman.

After having watched the sneak peak, I can honestly say that I am not looking forward to this movie in the slightest! I love Damian Wayne as a character, but by Merlin he is acting like such a in-pungent tramp that it just makes me wanna slam my head against the wall.

BTW, Is Robin Atkin Downes British or American, I can't tell from his real world accent.

He's English.

I'm kind of with you on Damian. Out of the tens or hundreds of great casting jobs Andrea Romano has done throughout the decades, the choice for Damian I think is a bit of a miss (she's still got to be batting .900 or something), and it makes me not like the way the character talks. I feel like a different voice would make Damian more watchable.

Oh no it's not the vocal performance (Quite the contrary, Stuart Allan is a good pic for him) I mean the actual character's characterization, how he's portrayed.

I'm not the most well-read on Damian, so I'll trust your judgment, but I really feel like the voice of Damian is a bit off. It sort of ruins everything Damian says for me.

Who would you have casted then?

No one actor in particular, plus it's not as though I know many child actors. It's just that Allan's voice never really matched the one in my head.

Happy 20th anniversary to Gummibär/Gummy Bear!

Here's to hoping he releases an anniversary album in stores on November 13th (with lots of music, videos, and extras).
Just brought a Switch 2 this past weekend. I hope Nintendo doesn't follow Sony's suit of getting rid of physical games.
Find it hard to beleive how this upcoming set has more than one normally-considered "politically incorrect" cartoon in new restoration form..
