World's Finest Writer's Corner Flight Of The Eagle

(DOE, I feel honored that you are enjoying my story so far. I hope you keep reading and let me know if there's anything I can do to improve. Everyone, thank you for reading. I hope you enjoy the new chapter.)

Chapter 14

“Did you find 33569?” General Schrager asked as he stared at the video link up with his tracing team.

“Sir, we’ve been tracking her, but her movements have been erratic. She just disappeared about two weeks ago, but now we seem to be getting some signals that she might be in Gotham City.”

“Watch yourself Captain.” General Schrager growled as his eyes narrowed. “That’s Batman’s city. His partner Nightwing is the one that helped destroy our main operation building in Metropolis. Thankfully we had the backup building to transfer everything to.”

“I’ll be careful sir.”

“Don’t try to approach 33569 at night when Batman is prowling. Attack during the day. If Batman appears, or any of his partners, shoot to kill both 33569 and whatever Batfreak is attacking. Understood?”

“Acknowledged sir. It will be taken care of.”

***

Luke’s eyes narrowed as he finished listened to the recording and then he quickly turned it off, pulling off his headphones and setting them back inside his desk. With a sigh he lifted his phone, dialing in his home number.

“McNeely residence.” Sharon’s voice answered.

“Hi honey, it’s me. I’m not going to make it home tonight and possibly not tomorrow night either. I just found out about an out of control experiment that I have to take care of.”

“Be careful Luke. Come back in one piece.” Sharon responded softly.

“I will Sharon. Love you.”

“I love you to.” Sharon answered before they both hung up the phones.

Luke stood up, striding over to stare out the window of his office one more. “If I were a young girl, about sixteen, where would I go to hide? Where could I blend in?”

***

“Figuring out the layout of the school OK so far?” Tim Drake asked with a smile as he glanced over at the new girl who was walking with him.

Her bright yellow tresses bounced up and down as she gave a quick nod, her smile lighting up the room. “So far I’m doing fine Tim. My memory isn’t that bad.”

“I never said it was Miss Amanda.” Tim replied, continuing to grin. “Now I think it’s probably about time for me to turn you back over to the principle.”

Amanda sighed, rolling her blue eyes quickly. “Great… I have to listen to that old fart lecture me for another hour or two. My idea of fun.”

Tim snickered behind his hand as they continued walking down the hall. Then he raised an eyebrow as they made their turn into the hallway leading to the principles office. “I wonder what they want.” He muttered as he looked ahead at the five people in suits that were all talking with the principle. Beside him, Amanda suddenly froze staring ahead with eyes open in fright.

“Amanda Pike? She’s right there behind you.”

The five men turned quickly and then took off running towards her. “Amanda!” One of them yelled.

“No!” Amanda screamed, dropping her books as she turned to run the other way. “I’m not going back!”

“Oh boy.” Tim muttered as he quickly turned, racing behind Amanda. “Care to tell me what in the world is going on here?” He asked in between breaths as he and Amanda busted through the door leading outside the school.

“To long to explain… don’t come with me Tim. Only get you in trouble.” Amanda gasped out as the two continued running; suddenly they skidded to a stop as another three men suddenly appeared in front of them, pointing semi-automatic pistols towards them. “Don’t move 33569 unless you want your friend hurt.”

Tim raised his eyebrow as they called Amanda by a number instead of her name. “What in the world have I gotten myself into?”

“Both of you!” A commanding voice suddenly said behind them. “On the ground now!”

“Uh, don’t we get to see a lawyer first?” Tim asked lamely as he glanced back at the five men who now stood behind them with their own weapons drawn.

“You’re not going to be seeing much of anyone anytime soon. We have to find out what she’s told you first.” The man growled as he stared into Tim’s eyes.

Suddenly Amanda turned, shoving Tim to the ground. “No!” She screamed as her hands suddenly erupted in flames, sending geysers launching towards the men that were pointing weapons at her.

The men all dove away from the flames, rolling behind anything they could use as cover. “Code red! I repeat, code red!” One of the men called over his radio. “Snipers, open fire!”

“Go to h*ll!” A cold voice responded over the radio. “Your snipers already have.”

The man stared at his radio in unbelief then spun around, his eyes widening in shock.

***

Luke swung down, reaching out with his one strong arm and pulling both Tim and Amanda into it as he swung upwards, then released his grappling line, launching out another one immediately. Within his mask he smiled coldly, happy that he had been able to thwart the government this time. In a matter of seconds they were beyond the range of the men’s pistols and soon they disappeared into the forest of skyscrapers.

Luke continued swinging for several more minutes before finally landing on top of the Gotham Clock Tower.

Amanda quickly lept away, staring at the man dressed all in black. “Who are you?” She asked, her eyes showing a little fear.

“He’s Eagle.” Tim said quickly. When Luke cocked his head to glance at him, he grinned. “Dick Grayson told me about you.”

So this must be robin then.” Luke thought with a grin and then he turned his gaze back to Amanda. “I do go by the name Eagle, but more important I’m someone who was able to escape from the same people you escaped from.”

“You’re…. You’re 72170.” She whispered in awe as she stared at him.

“That was the number they gave me, yes.” Luke responded quietly. “But I’m now a name… not a number.”

***

“Where do I go now?” Amanda asked as she quietly stared out over Gotham’s night-lights from the top of the building where McNeely & McNeely Inc. was currently located.

“I would offer to let you stay with me, but I’m not sure how my guardian would feel about that.” Tim offered lamely.

“I can’t stay in Gotham Tim.” Amanda said with a sad smile. “They found me to easy.”

“You can stay with my wife.” Luke suddenly said as he peeled off his mask to reveal a smile on his face. “She’d be happy to have you stay with us.”

“No. I have to try to find my own purpose in life.” Amanda said quietly. “Thanks for the offer just the same.”

Luke nodded quickly, the pointed to the door that led to the stairs. “Go on inside. Go to the ground level. There you’ll find a driver by the name of Charlie. He’ll take you wherever you need to go and he’ll make sure you have plenty of money to get started.”

Amanda nodded and then walked over, hugging Tim quickly. “Thanks for all your help Tim. Take care.” A moment later, she was gone.

“Tell Batman what happened.” Luke said quietly after Amanda had left. “I’ll be over to the Wayne residence to see you both later in the week. I used to think that just saving everyone I could was enough but when I see what they try to do to a kid like that, I know I have to keep them from ever hurting anyone again.”

“I’ll tell him.” Tim replied quietly.

“Can you get home alright?”

Tim nodded as he opened his backpack to reveal a pile of red fabric within. “I think I can figure a way to swing it.”

“Take care, Robin.” Luke said as he turned and strode inside. “Oh… and just in case you were wondering, Charlie is going to keep an eye on her. If there are any problems, I’ll be notified and I’ll let you know right away.

“Thanks Eagle.” Tim said as he pulled on his mask.

Robin always tends to get into the thick of things. :p And go Luchen! Or rather - Eagle. Good name for him. And looks like the general is going down - the jerk.

“But I’m now a name… not a number.”

YES!!!

Looks like the General is going down! Hehe

I wonder if we'll here from Amanda again, too bad about her. Yeah, Tim right in the middle of things as always hehe.

Gotta love those crazed, escapee experiment girls. I hope to see Amanda again in the future, but what really has me going is just how many of these experiments there are.

Keep up the good work! So far you've created a story with intelligence and intrigue, and I'm itching for more!

(First off, I must once again thank everyone for their wonderful comments.

Panther, I am very glad to see that you enjoyed my line about a name not a number. Really in my mind, for the characters to have finally broken away from the impersonalization of a number and to have been given a name instead is a wonderful thing.

Detective thank you for continuing to read. I do have future plans for my characters but as for Amanda, you will have to simply wait and see what happens with her.

DOE, I feel honored that you are enjoying my story so much. To receive praise from an author than can write such an epic as the 'X' series is quite a thing. You really do have to love those

Amanda might be popping back into the Eagle story at a later date... I'm contemplating more interaction with Master Timothy. Any thoughts on that possibility?

For all you that are reading but not replying, thanks for reading. I'm glad to that people enjoy the story so much. But now on to what you've all been waiting for. The new chapter! Enjoy!)

Chapter 15

“Yes, how can I help you sir?” Alfred asked as he opened the door of Wayne Manor, revealing the man who stood there.

“I’m here to see Batman.” Luke said bluntly.

“I’m afraid I really have no idea what you’re talking about.” Alfred answered with an easy smile, “Bruce Wayne lives here not Batman.”

Luke smiled slightly as he opened the knapsack over his shoulder, revealing the dark cloth of his costume hidden within. “I’m Eagle.”

Alfred smiled as he opened the door wider and stepped aside to admit Luke. “I thought you might be but one can never be to cautious after all.”

Luke nodded as he watched Alfred close the door. “How in the world does he keep it unknown that he’s from this mansion?”

“Because he is never in the mansion in costume.” Alfred replied easily. “Follow me please.”

***

“So all he said was sometime this week?” Bruce asked Tim yet again.

“For the hundredth time, yes! That’s all he said!” Tim said in exasperation without removing his gaze from the hand held video game he was playing. “Now would you leave me alone for a moment? I’m almost to level thirty-four.”

“Actually I’ve only asked you twenty-four times.” Bruce answered evenly.

“You’re up to level thirty-four?!” Dick asked in shock as he stepped out of the changing room dressed in his Nightwing costume except for the mask. Quickly he ran over and peered over Tim’s shoulder. “This is the level they’re supposed to have the brain sucking aliens that you can only kill with the wand of power!”

“Children.” Barbara muttered as she walked out of the changing room, securing his cowl in place.

“And even with all of this going on you still manage to get work done and catch the bad guys.” A male voice suddenly rang out. “Amazing.”

Dick looked up quickly a smile on his face. “Luke! Good to see you.”

Luke nodded; replying with his own smile for just a second but just as quickly as it had appeared it disappeared. “I just wish I wasn’t coming under these circumstances.” Swiftly Luke strode over to where Bruce was sitting at the bat computer. Silently the two men stared at each other.

“So you’re Batman.” Luke said quietly. “You look more impressive in your costume.”

“So do you.” Bruce answered evenly as he slowly stood up to his full height. “I understand from Robin that you need my help.”

***

“They’re base of operations is still in Metropolis somewhere.” Luke said quietly as they stared at the holographic projection of Metropolis. “I believe that it is in one of two places: either here,” He said as he pointed to a large warehouse right next to the docks, “Or here.” He finished as he pointed to a skyscraper that stood right next to the LexCorp building.

“Is Lex Luthor involved with them?” Batman asked coldly as his eyes narrowed.

“Not as far as I know.” Luke replied as he looked over at Batman, “As far as I know this is just a top secret government agency. In fact, to the best of my knowledge the President and most of congress doesn’t even know about it.”

“Surprising covert.” Batman muttered. “Probably only one or two people at the Pentagon even know about it.”

Luke nodded slightly, “That’s probably true. Experiments done on aliens aren’t something you want to get out especially when you have Superman and the Martian Manhunter flying around.”

“Government satellites have shown a lot of air traffic and motorcade traffic to this site.” Batgirl stated as she pointed at the skyscraper next to the LexCorp building. “As you two already discussed, there is no evidence of anyone from LexCorp having gone over to this building.”

“Security’s very tight.” Luke said as he pressed a button on the holographic projector, zooming in on the one building. “At the front entrance are the normal guards. Five of them are stationed in the reception area at all times. All of the guards are supposedly retired Navy Seals.” Luke took a moment to move up to the second floor with his button. All that was shown was a floor plan. “After the first floor, our intelligence becomes very scarce. I know there are at least twenty to thirty guards per floor. Just like on the first floor, each guards is a black ops specialist. We have floor plans for the whole building but more than likely they have been altered so there will most likely be hidden surprises. The only other thing I know about the building is the tenth floor. The tenth floor is the holding area for all the aliens that are being trained and experimented on. Most likely, General Schrager is in an office close to the top of the building.”

“I assume you plan on taking him alone.” Nightwing said quietly.

“If you four don’t mind releasing the aliens. They’re the priority.” Luke replied as he stared back into Nightwing’s eyes. “My revenge only comes after the inmates are free.”

At this point I don't really want to comment on the plotline until it develops further, but I just wanted to add a little aside: I really like the way you use your characters; you've definately got a solid feel for both the ones in the animated Batverse and your own creations. I can almost hear Alfred's voice as he's talking about caution or Barbara remaring "Children" in the way that she does... nice work.

My god, I burst out laughing at that point!

Interesting proximity to LexCorp; something tells me that's not a coincidence, no matter what Luke knows. And a covert government agency that trains and experiments on alien assassins? How cool is that!?

More interaction with Master Timothy is always welcome from fans *wink*. And I feel honored that you're honored, Coran. You're a great writer!

This story is really shaping up great, something between the X-Files and Justice League! I'm waiting patiently for more.

Ooooo, revenege time coming up!

“And even with all of this going on you still manage to get work done and catch the bad guys.” A male voice suddenly rang out. “Amazing.”

LOL! :p

Great characterization! I love how you have uterally captured every single character here.

to best of my knowledge the President and most of congress doesn’t even know about it

How much do they ever know?

I like Luke's directness. A refreshing change from all the lying he's surrounded by.

Great job! :D Can't wait for more!

I hate to bump this up but I'd hate to see this go unfinished. I am really liking this. :)

(I appologize for my absence of... almost a year and a half. Right before my last post my father passed away, and since then life has been quite hectic with moving to a new area, getting a new job, and trying to adapt to a completely different life. I hope people are still interested in reading, and I plan on at least finishing this story. Once again, my appologies to everyone.)

Chapter 16

"Why do things always seem to end up in Metropolis or Gotham City?" Robin asked himself softly as he perched on top of a nearby skyscraper with Batman, Batgirl, Nightwing, and Eagle.

"Because people love coming to see me." Superman's voice suddenly spoke as he flew up to land next to Robin.

"Nice of you to show up." Batman muttered.

"Had a bank robbery and two muggings to stop on my way here." Superman replied cooly. "So that's the place huh... doesn't look to impressive."

"Appearances can be deceiving." Eagle replied as he lifted up a pair of binoculars slowly scanning the building.

"From the architectural plans all of the winds are reinforced to withstand hurricane force winds." Batgirl stated as she tried to remember all the details.

"That may be true." Superman said with a slight smile, "But somehow I don't think they can withstand me."

"All of you get the other captives out." Eagle said as he turned to move away. "I'm heading up to the roof and then working my way down to General Schrager."

The five heroes watched as their friends dissapeared into the shadows like a wraith. "So do we play this quiet, or go in with all the guns blazing?" Superman asked quietly as they all turned their gaze back to the building.

"Guns blazing." Batman replied coldly, "Our best chance at this is using surprise and swiftness to our advantage."

"Alright then... get ready to swing in through the broken windows behind me." Superman said as he began to slowly go into the air. "Tenth floor right?"

"Right." Nightwing replied as the Bat-Family all prepared their grabbling hooks.

***

"It all looks pretty quiet tonight, eh George." One of the guards said as he propped his feet up on the counter, sipping his coffee while slowly scanning the video monitors.

"Yeah... quiet." The man called George said sullenly. "They could have let me have the night off to take my girlfriend out, but NOOOOO, they required two people on duty at the monitors."

"Oh quit your moaning." The first man said good naturedly, "It's not that bad."

"You can't talk Frank." Geroge replied, "You didn't have to leave your girlfriend sulking at her apartment."

Before Frank to reply, the alarms suddenly started blaring, and every video screen switched to a view of the tenth floor. The windows had been busted in, and there stood Superman, his eyes slowing scanning the room until they locked on the camera. Second later, the camera dissapeared in a flash of red.

"Ah h*ll." Frank growled as he grabbed a nearby microphone. "Intruders on floor ten. I repeat, intruders on floor ten. Superman accompanied by who knows, who else. Approach with caution and use deadly force if necessary."

***

"Deadly force?" Superman muttered with raised eyebrown as he began to move forward while the Bat clan swung in to land behind him. "What kind of deadly force might they have."

"I don't want to wait around to find out." Nightwing replied as he broke into a run, "Let's just get the captives free and get them out of here!"

***

Coran, you have my sincerest condolances in regards to your father. Your absence is understandable and totally moot. No apologies necessary.

I'm glad to see such a varied cast back in action, and I can't wait to see what happens when the forces collide...it's gotta be good. I also loved the cute little comments from Robin (when do I not love something Robin says?) and Superman's (apparently) sarcastic reply. The way you write character interactions is very personal and accurate.

Anyway, so whenever you post we'll be here waiting for more goodness from Coran!

(Thankyou very much for your kind words DOE. I hope those new to the boards since I was last here will also give me a chance and provide their thoughts on the stories. Please remember everyone that I want all reviews... if you think my story is bad, please tell me why. If you think it's good, please tell me why. I love feedback if it helps my skills as a writer develop! Enjoy the new chapter!)

Chapter 17

“Nothing is going right.” General Schrager thought to himself as he moved up the stairs towards the roof.

“Ah… General Schrager I presume.” A voice suddenly spoke from the shadows corner of the stairwell.

“Of course I am.” General Schrager growled in response, “Is that how you speak to your commanding officer?”

“No… that’s how I address the underling I pay for.” The voice replied as it suddenly got hard. Slowly the figure stepped into the light, revealing the face of Ra's Al Ghul. “Though you may not have known it, you have always been working for me.”

“That’s not possible… you were one of our targets!” General Schrager replied hotly.

“Ah yes… my encounter with 72170 and 72171.” Ra’s replied, “I do appreciate your showing off their skills. Unfortunately, your own skills in attempting their recapture have shown rather poorly.”

“But… but I don’t understand.” General Schrager choked out as he his mind tried to figure all of this out, even as one hand slipped behind him, grasping for the pistol that was hidden in the small of his back.

“It’s quite simple really.” Ra’s replied. “The detective has never chosen to join me. Thus, I had to look other places for an heir. When Superman also rejected me, I thought perhaps I could find another alien that, when properly trained, would not reject the proposal. Unfortunately your bungling allowed the chosen one to escape, and then you have failed to recapture him. I refuse to accept failure.”

Finally General Schrager’s hand closed on his pistol, “Well bully for you.” Schrager sneered as he started to jerk out his weapon, “You can just go to h*ll.”

As the pistol came out, a strong hand grasped the General’s wrist, breaking it in two with a sickening snap. The General’s scream of pain echoed up and down the stairs as he turned to face Ra’s servant, Ubu.

“I’m from above… but I’m afraid that you are not. Enjoy your return to h*ll, as you so eloquently put it.” Ra’s replied grimly.

Before the General could react he was lifted up and tossed down the center of the stairwell. His high-pitched screams rang out continually until they ended with a hideous thud as his body slammed into the ground some twenty floors below.

“Come Ubu. Back to the transport.” Ra’s said grimly as he began to ascend the stairs, “But do be ready. I believe there will be a visitor coming in to meet us in just a few moments.”

***

“Superman! Weld the end hallway doors shut!” Batman yelled as he and the rest moved down the hallway, flinging open doors and freeing captives. “We need all the time we can buy.”

In each small room, a new captive awaited. Many looked perfectly human except for perhaps slightly different skin pigmentation, or a strange glow, or abnormal hair, but here and there were a few very different races. In this room, a man with large membrane like wings going from his wrists to his ankles, in that room a huge lizard that stood upright, in this room a huge individual appearing to be made of molten lava.

“Get everyone out to where we came through.” Batman shouted, “Superman can get each one to Star Labs!”

***

Eagle strode resolutely across the rooftop as, with a thud, the last guard collapsed to the ground. Though none were dead, they were all badly injured and were in no way going to trouble anyone any time soon. Just as he reached the door to the stairs, it was flung open, revealing Ra’s Al Ghul standing in all of his glory. “Ah… 72170… or Eagle I guess you are now. We finally get to meet.”

“Ra’s Al Ghul.” Eagle said coldly as he quickly went into a defensive position, eyeing the other man warily, “What are you doing here?”

“Taking care of some unfinished business.” Ra’s replied coolly. “I must compliment you on your excellent fighting prowess and keen intelligence… I also offer my sympathy for 72171’s unfortunate demise.”

“And what do you know about it?” Eagle growled, his fists clenching.

“More than you think… I know she was your soul mate as well as your physical mate. She was what you lived for. Now you live for revenge, but perhaps I can offer you something better.” Ra’s said softly.

“Go on…” Eagle murmured.

“Here is not the place… if you will just come with me for a little ride.”

“I have pressing business here.” Eagle growled suddenly, “I don’t have time for your games.”

“Ah, but these games are extremely serious… and your business is concluded. General Schrager is dead. And you will be coming with me.” Ra’s said as he stepped out of the doorway and strode towards the transport vessel that was parked in the center of the roof.

“No I won’t… and how did he die?” Eagle growled as he warily turned to continue facing Ra’s.

“That really is of no importance… but your coming with me is important. And you are coming.” Ra’s replied coolly.

Before Eagle could say anything else something hard cracked against the base of his skull and he collapsed in an unconscious heap.

“Load him in the back Ubu… in the more comfortable cell. We have things to take care of.” Ra’s said as he opened the vessel and boarded; Ubu followed, carrying the unconscious hero. The door of the vessel closed and moments later the transport lifted into the air before shooting through the open air, swiftly leaving Metropolis far behind.

***

“They’ve started trying to batter down the doors!” Robin said as he eyed the big metal doors with a concerned expression on his face. “How long do you think we have?”

“With only a few more hostages to get out of here… more than enough.” Batgirl replied as she ran past him to throw open yet another door.

Minutes ticked by before finally, only the Bat Clan remained standing on that particular floor of the building. “Superman’s make his last run to Star.” Nightwing said quietly as he paused for a moment to stand near the other three, his eyes glancing over to look at the dented and damaged metal doors. “Looks like they’ll be coming through soon.”

“They’ll arrive in an empty room.” Batman said shortly as he strode towards their entry point. Seconds later four grappling hooks shot out and then the four heroes swung off into the darkening night.

***

“We’ve got a problem.” Dick Grayson said as he strode into the pent house Bruce Wayne retained in Metropolis for his own uses.

“Such as?” Bruce asked with raised eyebrow as he glanced up from the chessboard he had been contemplating. Sitting on the other side of the board was Tim Drake with a big Cheshire cat grin on his face.

“Yeah, what’s up?” Barbara Gordan’s voice rang out from where she lay stretched out on a nearby couch with a book in her hands.

“Eagle never reported in.” Dick replied seriously.

“He can take care of himself.” Bruce replied quietly as he turned back to the board and moved a piece. “Check mate.”

“But… but… but… how?!” Tim sputtered as his face dropped into a frown and then a look of pure awe.

“I’ve told you time and time again… you have to watch for diversions.” Bruce schooled quietly, “You pay so much attention to the frontal attack and you don’t notice the other movements on your sides.”

Dick shook his head in irritation and walked over to the couch, sitting down on the edge beside Barbara. “Bruce is right… Eagle’s proved himself many times. He’ll be fine.” She said softly, her eyes glued to the pages in front of her.

Dick glanced at the book, his face wrinkling in disgust as he read the title aloud, “Love’s Strong Summons? Don’t tell me you’re reading those kind of romances again!”

“Well since the man in my life doesn’t seem to apt to romance me, I have to take it where I can get it!” Barbara responded in irritation.

Dick’s eyes narrowed sharply before he slowly stood and silently walked away. “He’s proven himself many times… he can take care of himself.” He thought to himself as he stepped out the main door, “How is it they’re so apt to trust him, but they can’t stand it if I don’t report in… and when will they accept my gut instincts?”

“Going out?” Clark Kent asked as he stepped out of the elevator Dick was just about ready to enter.

“Someone has to listen to gut instinct and since everyone else is interested in either teaching or romance, it kind of depends on me. Good night Clark.” Dick replied emotionless though his eyes were shining with pent up frustration.

Clark’s eyebrow rose in confusion as he watched the elevator doors close before turning to walk back to Bruce’s suite.

“So anyone care to tell me what Dick is so steamed about and why none of you would listen to what he had to say?” Clark asked point blank when he was allowed to enter.

***

Luchen slowly shook his head, trying to clear away the cobwebs as he slowly sat up, quickly looking over the room he was now in. “Looks like I’m at the Ritz…” He murmured as he slowly slid off of the bed and stood up, “Except no windows… and I doubt there’s room service.” The main door suddenly swung open without warning. Luchen’s reactions took over and suddenly he was in defensive position, one hand grasping to where the pouch of throwing stars always rested at his side… it was no longer there. None of his costume remained! Instead he stood in a pair of plain khaki pants with a blue pull over collared shirt.

“So you are the new chosen one according to my father.” A beautiful black haired woman said as she entered the room.

“Talia.” Luchen responded quietly as he remembered the file he had read about Ra’s Al Ghul. “Chosen one?”

“Yes… apparently my father has chosen you as a prospective suitor for his only daughter.” Talia said quietly. “He must think you have great promise to choose you over Bruce.”
[font=&quot]
Oh no…” Luchen thought to himself, “That’s why he made the comment about Shoran’s death… he thinks I’m available to give him an heir!”

Sorry I've only gotten to this now, Coran, things pass me by on this board so fast these days. Anyway, nice twist with Rha's taking advantage of Luchen's situation; apparently the old man's finally learned that if you want a noncommital guy to be your heir you have to physically force him. And it's curious that the entire Bat Clan ignores Dick's instincts, as well as neglecting Eagle when he could very well be in a time of need. A little alien racial profiling, anyone?

Hope to hear more from you very soon, but again, take your time.
