My 3 year old son noticed a Fox and Crow avatar while I was browsing earlier. I've never seen any of those cartoons and have developed some curiosity about them? Are they available out there in Termite Terrace land???

Yes. I have some of the "Fox and Crow" cartoons on tape, which came from a trade here.

What kinda action goes on with Brother Fox and Brother Crow???

The Crow (Crawford) constantly tries to swindle the Fox (Fauntleroy) out of either food or money (usually 2 dollars).

We've got a great history and character analysis of the Fox and Crow here at Toonzone, on our Columbia pages here. Their feuds often go far beyond two dollars to truly outrageous proportions...!

Thanks for the link! Have these ever been released on VHS or DVD? Or are they elusive, ala the Banned Warner toons???

nope

Correction: they were never "officially" released. Most of them are elusive if you hate on-screen timecodes. ;)

There wasn't anything politically incorrect in the cartoons (save for Crawford Crow smoking in a few cartoons).

To foiddah (Ias Jimmy Durante would say) elusidatecha..(inform you)
The series was picked up by UPA when Col.started distributing THEIR toons, having completely dissolved their own studio. Frank Graham, then Mel Blanc, Jack Mahther,John Smith, then ultimately Paul Frees did the characters voices (like Hubie and Bertie, who had various voices over ther same 1940s period, it's hard to delinate.I have the GRAHAM WEBB ANIMATED FILM ECYCLOPEDIA, but Sogtoitle points out some ommissions occur...)

Mike~

The simple truth is that Columbia (aka that great American company... Sony ;) :p ) owns them and has seen little or no value in them (or for that matter ANY of the non-UPA Columbia-owned cartoons). Mr. Beck helped them assemble a COLOR Columbia cartoon TV series several years back which included Fox and Crow toons, but this has never found a major U.S. distributor/network. Thus the only tapes of the Fox and Crow toons that circulate (among tape-trading friends) are those that have large and prominent time-codes on them and which originated and well "escaped" ;) a couple years back. Even black and white 16mm prints of the cartoons are prized!

Were they ever, at any time (particularly prior to the mid-70s), released for syndication? I can see some kiddie show host running them during that era (although I don't specifically remember them running in Chicago).:fox: :crow:

The Fox and Crow cartoons (as well as other Columbia/UPA cartoons) were aired on a show called "Totally Tooned In." Unfortunately, this series never aired in the U.S.

Once again - nuts... :(

I've put the Fox & Crow shorts along with many B&W Columbia shorts from the 40's on a six-volume set of DVD's from copies of the tapes I got in trade. The vast majority of these Fox & Crow shorts do indeed have nasty time codes blocking part of the screen, but they're watchable. I can't sell you a set, but if you're interested in a trade, I can dupe a set for you. I can also offer the tapes if you don't have a DVD player.

PM is on the way - thanx!

The cartoons were syndicated to television in the 1950's, supposedly with Hanna-Barbera's Ruff and Reddy cartoons (H-B's early series were distributed by Screen Gems/Columbia).

The print I received in one of my 'cartoon ventures' (which everyone has now) of "Mysto Fox" came from an original B&W 16mm Ruff & Reddy show...

Glad I got you to watch Stranger Things.

If I may recommend more media for you to check out, here's a starter:

You've mentioned that haven't read the original TMNT comics from Mirage Studios. Well, this video by YouTuber "Soundout12" gives a decent roadmap for where to start:

dmxx116 really likes to wish for people not to return back to so and so because their films didn't do so well. I don't agree with everything he says, though I agree on that Jared Leto shouldn't play Skeletor.
I'm sorry but I disagree with what GRPHX said about the past five films with Daniel Craig as James Bond as well as the choice of Denis Villeneuve as director and Steven Knight as writer in the next film because I really doubt Villeneuve's take will be like the Craig films at all and besides, all of the stuff he mentioned happened before the Craig films such as Licence to Kill.

Hi, welcome to Toonzone

There's something about seeing kids cry after they mess up big time that really gets to me. One can definitely feel bad for Layla.
