Futurama " Obsolently Fabulous "

I didn't see any talkback in this forum or at the Adult Swim forum, and I assume its new, so I figure it was okay if I started this thread. If I'm wrong about that or it wasn't new, my aplogies.

Tonight's episode features the crew going to Roboticon and Farnesworth getting a 1-X, the latest and most update robot. Bender feels obsolete and after some not-so-subtle badgering from our favorite insane and senile genius, goes to get an upgrade in software to allow compatiblity with the new models. After seeing how his fellow upgradees lose their robot humanity after the upgrade, he runs for it, builds a boat, crashes on desert island. Afterwards...well, I've seen and know what happens and this is as far as the FOX synopsis went, so I won't spoil it, but I can GARUNTEE that Bender does not act like Tom Hanks and consoles himself in a volleyball like FOX says :b

Bender focused episodes aren't good, since his personality dosen't evoke sympathy. And this one had a lack of the other regulars. Bender is good when he makes quickie jokes, because a jackass isn't funny if the episode is devoted to him being a jackass.

I loved the cassete robot's bag of tapes and the "it was all a dream" ending ("Reality is whatever you want it to be!")

I think Futurama really hit it's stride in the first season, with the parody themed episodes. Season 4 has had it's hits and misses, like Season 3.

I enjoyed this episode a lot especially the robot who ran on a water wheel, but existed only to keep the wheel moving. Creepy!

This episode was "meh" at best. Too much yelling, Bender's voice was really annoying for some reason (I normally have no problem with it), and some of the jokes were used too much (the waterwheel robot, the casset robot, bender hating machines). I liked the season 1 and 2 episodes a lot more.

And props to Groening for the Ab-Fab reference. I hated that show and am glad to see it being made fun of, albiet in a very esoteric manner.

I agree with this. My favorite season of Futurama is the first season-- it really got off to a running start, unlike the very early Simpsons. The second season was good too.

These last few episodes which FOX is airing have not been good for the most part.

Well, I did like the "alternate reality box" one.

I'm hoping at least they'll give us another "Why of Fry"/"Luck of the Fryish" type episode for some resolution to Fry's character arc. It'd be a shame to leave loose ends, but Groening completed these episodes in 2001 (or something) and may not have seen cancelation coming.

Yeah, this wasn't a very impressive episode. Most of it was very forgettable. I did like the cassette robot, when Bender bent the Boating Prohibited sign into a boat, and when Bender was helping in the new robot's demonstration at Mom's, but nothing else really stands out as being that funny.

Still great to see new Futurama, though. It's funny, before the show aired, they kept running commercials for Simpsons, King of the Hill, and Malcom reruns, and then added "But first, an all new Futurama." I'm surprised they went that far to promote it.

(Side note: wooden bender reminded me of that tree fighter from Tekken)

Eh, I liked this episode. I don't really care if there's a ton of characterization (figuring how Groening wasn't planning the show to end when he was making these, most likely) as long as it's funny. And I thought this one was. The newer version robot and Bender's reaction towards him was great, and the island had some really hilarious bits (the cassettes and the water wheel robot especially). Some parts dragged a bit, though (particularly towards the end), but for the most part I liked it. B+

The episode was okay until it got to the end where everything happened turned out to be a dream.

When is the final episode going to air?

I liked this episode especially those obsolete robots. That tape robot "what?" gag was priceless even though we saw it coming from miles away, as well as the spinning water wheel "I'll never make it!" Good stuff, I am a sucker for silliness.

B+

Oh yeah! Good thinking.

I thought this was a pretty cool episode. Certainly better than last week's offering! I loved that cassette robot ("What?!" *remove cassette* *reinsert cassette* "What?!"). I was a bit disappointed that it was all a sort of dream, though. Oh well, he's still the same old Bender, except he now appreciates the new robot.

Oh, and I thought the little disclaimer thing at the beginning of the opening was neat: "You can't prove that it won't happen." :)

I actually enjoyed the ending. It was a nice reference that I'm glad they put in before the series end. How can we be sure that we are nothing more than the creation of another man's imagination?

Two episodes left.

I wasn't really able to pay attention to this one. Certain people (*angry stare*) in the house wouldn't shut up. I'll catch it on Adult Swim in a few months.

Anyone think that new robot will appear in future episodes? Personally, I think they're just going to ignore it, but it might be interesting if they kept it as a regular...thing (I don't want to say charactert, but I guess it would be) around the office.

I was really liking it, even though it was a Bender episode a good amount of focus was put on his interaction with the other characters, which was great and provided very funny bits. But when he went megolomaniacal AGAIN with the downgrade and war against technology it quickly went down and didn't really recover.

According to TVguide.com

Aug. 3: Bender Should Not Be Allowed on TV

Aug. 10: The Devil's Hands Are Idle Playthings (finale)

And that's it :(

stupid Fox

Watched the live-action "Moana" today and felt nothing that special compared to the original 2016 film. In fact, I don't remember much from the first animated film, but I think they barely changed anything in the 2026 version
@Sam the Cartoonist is right, I've registered on this site two times and I've enjoyed it! :) I'd posted this back in 2016, over ten years ago!
