Ok, so we're definitely going to get something Wing related, hoping it's a TV series but I won't be mad if it's a movie.

"Before you panic at the headline, you’re not THAT old. Mobile Suit Gundam is not 50 yet, nor will it be for several years. The folks in charge of it are just making birthday plans early…very early.
The first Gundam anime premiered in Japan on April 7, 1979. Because of this, the unofficial Japan Anniversary Association has declared April 7 to be Gundam Day, with the first “observed” occurrence in 2027. Next year will be an eventful one for Gundam, although it only turns 48 at that point.
That is the year which kicks off January 9 with Japan’s first Gundam-Con, planned to be “the largest event in the franchise’s history.” Planned attractions include exhibitions, interactive areas, tournaments and special guests from every era of Gundam’s lore. They’re calling it a “global event,” so it’s possible mini-conventions could sprout up elsewhere on the same day or slightly later.
Remastered versions of classic Gundam series are in the works. Both the original Mobile Suit Gundam and the landmark Gundam Wing have been confirmed to be getting new transfers; they would not confirm when Wing will be refined, but the re-release of MSG is planned to be timed to the 50th anniversary (yes, this means it wouldn’t come out until 2029). Hopefully we get Wing earlier than that."

"The first annual London MCM convention of 2026 has been and gone, and once again blessed fans with a bounty of Gundam. I’ve spoken about this a lot in recent years but it remains a joy to see just how much of a prioritised focus the franchise now receives at the event. Although there was the standard highlighting of kits from big hit outings such as the original 0079/First Gundam, Iron Blooded Orphans and Witch From Mercury, there were also product previews for upcoming new lines. Chief amongst these were the first two figures in the only very recently announced Gundam Artifact Pro line. Gundam Artifact is a long running line of miniature fixed pose resin kits, depicting famous mecha from across the franchise in a new style that heavily plays up the industrial mechanisms. The new Pro series will be small scale plastic & diecast action figures, this time in full colour. Similarly on display was Gundam Minikit, an upcoming candy toy consisting of utterly tiny SD kits of the Operation V units from the original series. A gimmick replicating the Core Block system will allow fans to replicate the various combined forms the White Base’s mecha used on the show.
There was also a presence from Tamashii Nations, Bandai’s collector focused arm. Although many of their items were locked within display cabinets, a dedicated table allowed attendees to play around with samples from a bunch of Gundam toylines and I was directly invited by a Tamashii Nations Japan to get hands on with Metal Build God Gundam. This was a particularly fun part of the weekend for me as we had a brief chat about the differences of figures vs Gunpla and how as much as the latter can be fun, sometimes you just want the more immediate joy of something which is already assembled and with which you don’t have to be so delicate. Indeed it was nice to see the clear passion some directly involved with producing these products has for their work."

The title alone sounds more like a phrase from a fable like Midsummer Night’s Dream by Shakespeare than a futuristic mecha anime. However viewers of the first Hathaway film on Netflix will remember the generally wistful tone of Hathaway Noa, Gigi Andalucia, and Kenneth Sleg’s love triangle.
The original Mobile Suit Gundam established a basic newtype concept. Newtypes are seen as a potential human evolutionary adaptation to space’s unique environment. With enhanced psychic powers allowing better combating abilities, newtypes are pivotal in influencing the One Year War between Zeon spacenoids and the Earth Federation. Later conflicts of Universal Century from the Gryps Conflict of Zeta and ZZ Gundam to Char’s Counterattack included newtype conflicts between Char Aznable, Haman Karn, Kamille Bidan, Judau Ashta, and Amuro Ray, in which even more colonies dropped on Earth.
Audiences of Hathaway 2 will briefly see Bright appear in both a flashback to the “even my father never hit me” moment where he slaps Amuro in 0079. Bright and Mirai are old and approaching retirement in one present scene as well. Bright himself had turned against the Federation joining Anti Earth Union Group (AEUG) in Zeta Gundam. Due to his general cynicism toward the Federation, and love of newtypes such as his wife Mirai, Bright was too conscientious to back the Federation’s Titans as they became tyrannical. Instead, Bright formed a coalition with former rivals including Char Aznable of Zeon. After the fall of the Titans, AEUG veterans Amuro Ray and Bright Noa formed a new military division called Londo Bell to stop Char from dropping Axis on Earth. Bright’s son Hathaway fell for the newtype girl Quess during a time when she joined Char as he was radicalizing against Earth."

Although the bulk of their output has been bespoke retail Blu-ray discs authored for their market, on occasion they have also acted as a front for fans to order ‘Import Editions’. For the unfamiliar the Gundam Base chain is a line of official Gundam stores, selling not only the famous Gunpla plastic model kits but a range of other merchandise from the franchise. It’s become clear that the majority of the pop up stores are tests to see if markets could support a dedicated Gundam Base store and thus with the ready success of the pop up it was unsurprising but welcome news when we found out at MCM London May that a dedicated bigger store would be taking over from the previous location.
Any trepidation over Gundam’s relevance to the United Kingdom was firmly dismissed by its prototype’s success and this opening was loud and proud. Takanori Nishikawa (better known by his stage name T.M. Revolution) was the guest of honour, joining representatives from Bandai Japan for a ribbon cutting ceremony before performing autograph signings for the first thirty fans to spend £150 in the store. That sounds like a lofty benchmark but by the time I made it inside roughly an hour after opening the target had been met and he was gone. Certainly for the fans who got one (who had been lining up since 7am if not earlier) that’s a very unique keepsake of a landmark moment. As someone who has been a Gundam fan since 2001 and has been covering it over here for only slightly less time, I never quite imagined we’d reach the state where demand for an official Gundam Base here would be so voracious."
