"How I Met Your Mother" Season Five Talkback (Spoilers)

I thought that the yellow umbrella being the mother's was already spelled out specifically. Maybe I just assumed that was what was meant by it, but wasn't there a big reveal with Stella behind it that they put a lot of emphasis on?

I think it was, I just don't remember what was said specifically about it. It was either 100% spelled out or it was extremely obvious that's what it meant.

Marshall tries to prove that his attractive female colleague kissed him.

Great episode. It features what just might be the most socially responsible drinking message ever televised, namely, "Binge drinking games are fun and once you start them you can't drop out of them even if it looks like they might kill you." It'll probably win some awards for this positive message.:)

The Marshall and Lily stuff was fantastic. Marshall just didn't know how much he really, really didn't want to actually make Lily jealous.

"Jenkins"

“But, umm…”

I loved how Robin thought she had all these fans in Ted’s class and then they had just turned her into a drinking game. She’s lucky no one is watching or else her revenge might have gotten her in trouble. ;)

Even without the preview basically revealing it, you could almost tell that Jenkins was a hot woman instead of a fat guy. Ted playing those scenes back over in his head after he found out was good stuff.

The who “reacher” and settler” thing was kind of funny as was Lily not even believing Marshall when he told that Jenkins had kissed him. She certainly believed it when Jenkins apologized though.

"Marshall, you're blocking the shot!"
:D

"The Perfect Week"
Monday, February 1, 2010 @ 8 p.m. ET/7 CT on CBS
When Barney is about to complete the perfect week - landing seven different girls in seven days - the gang roots him on in order to forget about their own miserable week.

Gotta admit, Cook Pu was kinda cute...

The yellow umbrella is stated explicitly to belong to the mother, IIRC, Ted takes it from a bar on St. Patrick's day while looking for his phone or something. I believe Stella also owned a yellow umbrella as a red herring/we might get canceled.

"The Perfect Week"

"Yeah, I'm totally gonna sit my kids down one day and tell 'em about the time Uncle Barney nailed seven chicks in a row."
"Am I a bad dad?"

As most of them are, this was a very fun episode. Barney pretending to be interviewed by Jim Nantz framing the episode was great. Only Barney would calm himself down by imagining an interview with the CBS Sportscaster.

The bad weeks Ted, Robin, Marshall & Lily were having were fun side stories (poor Cook Pu) as they watched Barney make it all the way to to end. It would not have come had they not run interference against Nick Swisher. ;)

"Giddy-what-up."

"Rabbit or Duck" February 8, 2010

Barney showed up in the stands at the Super Bowl with a sign displaying a phone number, what did that mean?

"Rabbit or Duck"

"Isn't there always a hotter girl?"
"I know. Isn't it wonderful?"

Barney was hilarious this week. They had him holding a different sign Super Bowl night (it was an actual 877 number) and the follow up here was good. Answering his phone would seem to be almost a compulsion for him because 'there's always a hotter girl.'

I loved the whole rabbit-duck argument and how intense it was! Good stuff.

I guess the blind date plan didn't really work out. Ted's not going to get married that way. I liked the the Don-Robin arc here. The way he decided to take himself more seriously and "turned into a duck" obviously got to Robin. I'm interested to see where this goes.

This was an hilarious episode.

My cadre of friends and I have arguments similar to 'Rabbit v. Duck' and it's so fun to see that kind of stuff pop in TV shows.

I think my favorite gag was when Barney was suddenly holding that little bunny in his hand instead of his phone, HA!

And Robin's last line "Oh, Duck!" Great!

Watching during the Superbowl one of my friends actually called the number Barney put up. It was a pre-recorded message saying that he would meet her at McClarren's Pub on some specific date in 2016! Kinda funny.

Really glad I started watching this show last season. Actually funny comedy can be so hard to find sometimes.

"Hooked"
Monday, March 1, 2010 @ 8 p.m. ET/7 CT on CBS
The gang tries to convince Ted that Tiffany (guest star Carrie Underwood) is stringing him along on the next episode of How I Met Your Mother.

"Hooked"

I love when HIMYM either creates or introduces to the general public a new buzzword and the idea of the "...right now" hook creating "some sort of magical future time where everything will work out" was very entertaining.

Carrie Underwood was fun if underused as Tiffany and I loved Older Ted yelling at himself when Ted was talking about Tiffany. Poor Henrietta, that got so awkward. :D

Lily trying to let Scooter off the hook was a fun side story. Practicing on the pig was great and Marshall trying to keep Scooter on the hook was understandable. I mean, look at those eyes!

Note to self, slot machine is too distracting, trampoline is too dangerous and teacup pig is just right.

I WANT A TEACUP PIG!!!

I'm not going to lie, that thing was one of the freakin' cuest things I've ever seen.

I have a blind, almost irrational, hatred of pigs; but even I thought it was adorable.

After the cellphone-bunny swap from a couple weeks ago the show seems to be trying to out-cute itself.

"Of Course" March 8, 2010

Jennifer Lopez guest stars on tonight's new episode!

"Of Course"
Monday, March 8, 2010 @ 8 p.m. ET/7 CT on CBS
When Robin confesses that she is still angry with Barney, she enlists the help of Anita, a self-help author (played by Jennifer Lopez) who plans to beat Barney at his own game.

"Of Course"

There was your expected sitcom highjinks in this episode, but I really liked how heart-warming it was. By the time we got to Barney realizing and caring about how much he had hurt Robin it got to me a little. His promise to not sleep with Anita and sending her and Don on the super-date (I agree with Barney, “mega-date” is better) was a great moment of sensitivity for him.

I don’t know what will happen when all is revealed about the world Older Ted occupies in 2030, but when Barney & Robin first broke up, I wanted them to eventually be together and now I feel like if that doesn’t happen, it’s okay.

While I have always like HIMYM I felt this episode was a stand out one and captured everything that has made the series great. It had the continuity nods and references, all the characters had their moments, it expanded and developed the characters while still being engaging and funny.

...and one more thing...

bang, bang, bangity bang, bang bang bang bang BANG!
