I dislike SMALLVILLE!

I haven't been on the message boards in a while. How good it feels to be back! It's just I've been so busy with my story at the FanFic Center( yes, that was a shameless plug )


Okay, now to my topic. I was wondering if I was the only one who doesn't like SMALLVILLE. I am astounded by how many people do. I watched the pilot and wasn't interested. Ikeep on giving it chances, but every time I turn it on, some guy's peeling his skin, or a girl is sucking a deer. Gross!! This is not what Superman's about. He's not supposed to to be dark and angst- ridden. That's Batman's territory. Give me S:TAS any day. I hated Lois and Clark, but even that was better than this junk. Anyone else agree with me? (and it's okay if you don't )

You can't watch it for the plot. Watch for the great characterization and acting. In particular, Michael Rosenbaum as Lex Luthor. He's doing a great job...

Smallville is just too predictable. I also kept watching it, hoping it would get better, but now I've kinda just given up on it. Michael Rosenbaum is the only good thing about the show. He makes a great Luthor!

I'm with you guys. I just don't like that show. Anyone with Superman's powers shouldn't be burdened with annoying kids not liking him--he should fly somewhere else and meet new people. Besides, this show is part of an ugly trend where TV execs try to do a superhero show without superheroes. Sorry guys, but I like the costume, the flying, and the costumed villains.

I am sorry that I'm missing Michael Rosenbaum's Luthor, though. He was pretty cool in the episode I did see.

Every teenager's life is dark and angst-ridden. Even Superman's. I know I can certainly identify with him a lot more when he gets nervous around Lana, or complains about being an outcast, or fights a crazy girl who sucks the fat out of a deer.

Here's a couple of reasons why:

1. It seems like in every episode someone is being affected by kryptonite poisoning(get a different story WB writers!)

2.Why is Lex Luthor even there? I thought Smallville was a little,insignificant town,and yet it seems like everyone's heard of it!

1. THE FIRST SEASON IS NOT OVER. The whole "kryptonite villain of the week" thing was meant to kick start the show and will soon be replaced by more diverse storylines.

2. Just because it's different doesn't mean it's not a good story. Lex is pretty much the best character on the show. Making him best friends with Clark is a great twist.

They used those formula style episodes to establish Clark's powers. Now they have laid the groundwork for the series, they will get away from the formula many of you hate so much. I say give the show another chance.

The plots always recycle themselves. It's always about how someone was exposed to kryptonite and now that person is on an evil rampage. And why aren't any of the good people effected by the kryptonite? Why is it always a bad person? (O.K., so there was one good person affected by the krptonite, the old lady who can see into the future. But only one?)
I also thought the show would center more around Clark's development as a human being and the influences that would ultimately lead Clark to become Superman.
I would like to see more character develpoment and less Krptonite freaks.

I don't think Smallville is a bad show at all, the dialogue is pretty good, not forced-more like actual teenagers would talk. Some of the plots have been just plain dumb, but supposedly this show is more the WB's second try at Buffy the Vampire Slayer than Superman:year one. No, I don't mean exactly the same as Buffy, but that geanre(mmm, no spellcheck...) of TV, a bit like the X-files for youngsters, where crazy (and sometimes improbable)
things happen routinely.

I do admit, though, my rating of the show would plummet if not for Lex Luthor- his charecter is really the diamond of this show, and I'm vastly dissapointed when there's an episode he ISN"T in.

Besides, Smallville has rescued Lana Lang from the clingy, desperate, starry-eyed wimp that she was, and in a complete turnaround made Clark the one mooning over her!

Did you actually read the posts right above yours? Because we basically addressed EVERYTHING you just said. Oh, and it's not always a bad person who gets affected by kryptonite. Off the top of my head, fat sucking girl and jitters guy were both victims and were not out to hurt anyone.

[Beyond Batman]

The show is not bad, what are you talking about??? It's a great show! I actually think it's one of the best times to see Clark Kent. That's the problem with you guys who don't like the show. You're expecting Superman. But the show is about Clark Kent.

Superpowers, flying, x-ray vision, etc. etc..... hasn't it all been done already? We got that with Christopher Reeves and with Lois and Clark (which by the way was a terrible depection of what Superman stood for). What Superman show hasn't concentrated on his powers? This show actually goes to the heart of the MAN behind Superman.

Superman may be an alien, but he was raised as a human boy, buy human parents, with human friends. Thus, this show depicts Superman's humanity.

Superman protects earth, because he knows what it's like to be human, and he's protecting what he calls home. This show backbones his reasons for calling earth home, and we get to see why that is through Clark Kents' eyes.

With computer generated graphics, it would be soooooo easy to show all of Superman's powers. But the best computer graphics in the world wouldn't be able to capture the reality of raw human emotion. Which is what this show concentrates on. Superman's humanity and emotional conflicts.

This show appeals to everyone fan or non-fan. I support Smallville 100% and hope more and more people watch it. You should be thankful for the ratings it's been getting... now more people are starting to recognize the comic community and the great stories Superman, Batman, etc. have to offer. It's too bad some of you guys don't like it.

Lastly, how can you be so quick to judge what hasn't even been completed yet? There are more episodes to come, so don't seem so pesimistic.

if you think about it, "Smallville" has it harder than "Lois & Clark."
"Lois and Clark" was supposed to tell stories of Supes in the current timeline... they had such a chance to pull off stories from page to TV, and it failed...

I am giving this show a chance. I probably would've stopped after the pilot, but I didn't. I have seen every episode to date, and I will watch through to the end of the first season.

It just doesn't impress me. So far the only ep that has is Hourglass. (Lex's vision is what pushed it into the "good" column.)

I'm not expecting Superman when I watch this show because I know very little about the Superman mythos. I know what other people tell me.

I am expecting dialogue that doesn't make me want to hurl heavy objects at the tv. I'm expecting Lana Lang to actually say a line with some kind of emotion. I'm expecting the plot to vary at least once (and I'm told it will so I'm glad for that).

I will continue to watch. I haven't given up all hope yet. They still have Lex...and that's enough of a reason right there.

Listen, no matter where you go, or what you like, you'll find someone who dissagrees with you.I'm not judging this show on whether or not the actors give emmy- winning performances or if the plot line keeps me on the edge of my seat, I'm just glad to be watching a show with superman in it.

I like it when they explore his powers, like in the x-ray episode, I get a little thrill everytime they put in a little nugget that shows him on his way to superman. I do wince a bit, if the storyline is flat or something silly happens, but the main fact of it is, I'm enjoying the ride and I want to see where it goes.

I'm willing to forgive a million times more crap in this series (not to say that there is that much) than in another, similar teen show, because this isn't a regular show

It's a superman show, or, if you prefer, a Clark Kent show, and I already love the charecters. I've seen them in comics, cartoons, TV and movies, and every one of them had a different take on it. These are charecters I like and want to see, even if they look differently than I would have imagined. I'm as interested in the differences as I am in the similarities.

I think it's a good show. Sure, there were some episodes that weren't too good (the old lady who sees the future is one); but I really enjoy the show for the most part. I think it's progressing in the right direction.
