Is Cartoon Network dying?

OK, I just want to say this doesn't have anything to do with teen titans go or how bad the network is, it isn't a rant thread. Cartoon network's ratings have been declining and they rely on airing Teen Titans Go to get high enough ratings. So, will the channel become so unprofitable and end up being destroyed soon?

I think it is slowly dying but I think it will recover soon.

Probably not. Ratings on all of TV have been on decline in recent years. They’re also not as focused on linear ratings as they used to be. They are doing well On Demand. So CN is fine.

I think a lot of the decline in CN's ratings has to do with the rise of online streaming. This is also causing other TV networks to decline in ratings. If CN finds another service to broadcast their shows, like their new app, then the network would do well in the near future.

I think ratings of TV in general are going down. They are doing great on On Demand.

As others have said, it’s not Cartoon Network that’s dying, but linear TV in general, especially for kids who have mostly migrated to VODs like YouTube.

One thing that's worth noting is that, despite having significantly lower ratings than Nick as of now, Cartoon Network's shows generally trend a lot more. This is likely why they've migrated toward online services to the extent that they have been, beyond the obvious reasons others have pointed out already.

Ok all of you have said that the all channels have significantly lower ratings, but is doing great online. So I think the channel could die and be replaced by a streaming service.

Not anytime soon. Turner is still making some profit out of the live feed. Of course, CN is putting much more empahsis on its digital services in this day and age, but many people still watch the live feed (especially those that can't afford internet access).

Where the analog age of TV slowly but surely ends, the digital age where we watch it on PCs, smartphones, and via streaming begins and goes on unimpeded, no matter how hard certain corporate interests say otherwise.

I only wish more people understood this cold hard truth, honestly...

Yeah, I don’t think media companies should abandon linear television networks entirely. There’s nothing wrong with keeping it going while putting more emphasis on VOD. It doesn’t seem like money’s being lost investing in both.

To answer the topic, the channel is simply shifting, the ratings might fall but for the most part everything else is solid especially in the animation department.

One could argue that it's linear live TV feed is dying (in which almost all channels and networks are suffering the same fate in the decrease in ratings), but, it's a proven fact that CN's on-demand and app views have increased tremendously over recent years. You can already tell from these recent years that CN's mindset is shifting towards the VOD phase, and there are already interviews from CN employees that even confirmed it.

Now we just have to wait for the day when almost all linear TV ends (at least in the states), and CN shifts completely to VOD.

I give it 10 years. :p

Cable TV is dying generally, online video streaming is becoming the new age of watching shows. Things like YouTube, Netflix, Hulu, e.t.c are making people cut off the cable and abandon their TV......there's pretty much nothing we can do about it since technology is advancing. If CN utilize their app more often they could have some better ratings. CN is doing good so far though in it's own capability so we'll see what the future holds.

Here's a fun article I wrote on why Ruby and Jade from Sofia The First are good characters.
Okay hear me out, Isn't it kind of crazy how CN never thought about doing a Kids Next Door x Teen Titans OG crossover back in the 2000s? There's five members of Sector V, five titans, and they both have super cool HQs. I'm telling you guys, a TT and KND crossover would've been so epic!
Watched the live-action "Moana" today and felt nothing that special compared to the original 2016 film. In fact, I don't remember much from the first animated film, but I think they barely changed anything in the 2026 version
