I was slightly confused by the references to Hawkeye being a defecting SHIELD agent and Black Widow being a traitor. I did think the second half was a bit stronger than the first.

Eh, it was okay. I'm too tired to go in-depth, but nothing here wowed me. The animation and dialogue were only okay, Iron Man looked like an idiot for some reason, Red Skull and MODOK make for boring villains, and the pacing was off. I liked most of the new VAs, but Stark's will take some getting used to.

I liked how "happy" Thor and Hulk were together, the Avengers Mansion (before it went away), the inclusion of the hover car (before that too was destroyed), the new super jet, and Red Skull's new team of villains.
What I didn't like was how at times charcaters did literally nothing on screen, the now lack of females on the team, how the second episode went from saving Tony's life to let's save the mansion, Tony Stark's character, the voice acting, and how this is turning out to be a possible look at what happens right after Avengers 2 or what happens in place of the Avengers 2 in an alternate universe.

It doesn't at all. The movie Avengers didn't use Avengers Mansion, Black Widow wasn't a traitor, and Tony and the team never met Red Skull or HYDRA.

I said possible look at whatever happens, not what will eventually happen, based on how film influenced the show is, ranging from the extreme amount of armors Tony has to Hulk's seemingly beige pants.

Didn't really wow me either. Most interesting things were the start of Red Skull's cabal and adding Falcon to the team.

I just don't know how to feel about it just yet. EHM was one of my favorite animations this generation so in my mind it's going to ready wow me to accept this new version. Wasn't a fan of Hawkeye being Hulk's punching bag since Hulk & Hawkeye's friendship was one of the aspects I loved about the previous series. I'll also agree with some of the observations in the series talkback thread and say that the action seemed to be going a lil' too fast at times.

Anyways, hate to dump on the guy even more, but Iron Man's VA is the only one I really wasn't feelin'. On the plus side, personally speaking, it was so nice to finally hear Laura Bailey play another a role where she isn't using the cutesy, angelic voice she tends to get typecast as in most games & anime (at least the ones I play & watch) I'll stick with it for now, but I just hope it gets better in the near future.

I kind of felt it was rushing things a bit and mind you this was the premiere two parter. I tolerated it for the most part. Has a lot of hurdles to overcome and that's to be expected.

I actually rarely hear Laura Bailey perform the cutesy and angelic-styled voices nowadays since she's mostly stopped working for FUNimation. Los Angeles seems to cast her as hard-boiled adults more often.

That's good to know that she isn't being pigeonholed anymore. There was stretch about a year or two ago where she seemed to be in every game I played (mostly fighting games) and was voicing teenagers or young adults.

I liked how it other villains had cameos in the second part when the Red Skull sent out his invitations for the cabal, I think it showed you Attuma, Dr. Doom and either Malekith the Accursed with out his two-sided face of a strange version of Dracula.

It's actually the current Marvel version of Dracula. Check out the fairly recent X-Men event "Curse of the Mutants" for more of him.

One word would summarize how I feel about these two episodes...entertaining. Here are a few thoughts that I had while watching the Avengers Assemble premier.

a. I love AEMH (I have all of the episodes on DVD), but Avengers Assemble is a different series and I have to be fair and assess it on its own presentation rather than holding it up to a standard of judging it based on how close it comes to approximating something else that I like.

b. I might be the only one who loves the Red Skull. However I am fine with that. I thought he was awesome in these two episodes. He, Dr. Doom, and Lex Luthor are the only villains in american animation, that I can think of, who can pull off the overly arrogant yet justifiably so persona. His scenes were highlights to me. It reminded me of his portrayal in Captain America: The First Avenger.

c. Depending on who the cabal will consist of, using Red Skull as the initial villain on the series and as leader of the cabal might help in the introduction of other villains into the series ( since he is most likely familiar to people who are familiar with the Marvel Cinematic Universe but who might not be as knowledgeable about Marvel comics overall).

d. Nice touch with the J. Jonah Jameson news report during the Avengers intramural fight. It provided a piece of continuity between this show and Ultimate Spider-Man (a show which despite its flaws, I do genuinely enjoy overall).

e. Falcon's portrayal had a legitimate impact on how I perceive his character. He seems like a really big deal to me now rather than just an add on.

f. For the first time, MODOK came across to me as a boss. That was good.

g. One more thing...Captain America is awesome.

I was fearing the worst about this show and honestly it was not too bad. Maybe Ultimate Spider-man and the final episodes of EMH gave me very little hope for Loeb's Marvel Animation. So these two episodes were pretty good.

The show could almost be a continuation of EMH but Tony Leading the avengers for the first time and Falcon using the Falcon suit for the first time make that impossible.

I liked how MODOK was treated as a serous threat rather then a joke character or the butt of other people's jokes like he usually was. What I did not like was Red Skull going, "Maybe I should not be Captain America's nemesis, Ironman is cooler" Okay he did not say that but that's the impression I got.

I am glad this show is mostly serous, while I have no problems with action comedies the comedy actually has to be funny.

Not as good as Earth's Mightiest Heroes but the first two episodes were solid to say the least.

:dad: I think some of us here are suffering from sour grapes in Jungle Japes.

Just like when USM came on, people are mad that a good show such as SSM (and in this case, EMH) got replaced. But that's just business, nothing we can do about it.

However, unlike USM, I think Avengers Assemble isn't a terrible replacement to EMH. I don't know if it's just me, but I find the overall look of Avengers Assemble to be more pleasing to the eye than EMH. The colors just look more toned down and appealing I guess. Although the story is by no means the level that EMH had, I think it can still hold its own. The whole idea of Red Skull forming his own team to take down the Avengers is an interesting concept that could really lead to some interesting match-ups. The show isn't great, but it has potential.

I thought it was a good intro overall. I'm actually glad it's not bound by A:EMH continuity (Sam Wilson apparently was never Falcon before; when was the Red Skull "dying"?, etc.); better to just do it's own thing than to try to shoehorn a different series to it. I thought the action was pretty good, and Hawkeye got in plenty of good lines. Of course, I still need to see a few episodes before I'm used to the show like I was with A:EMH, but for now I'm fairly optimistic overall.

It was very bland. Not terrible but nothing really standout or good about it either.

The characters didn't have that much chemistry, especially not good enough for an ensemble show like this, and I don't if it's the writing, the voice cast, the voice direction, or a combination of them all. It didn't sell that these are a group of friends that have saved the world a few times. Though part 2 did try a lot better than part 1 at the team dynamic. Also apparently no one can lead the Avengers except Iron Man, at least that's the impression it gives us. Tony disbands the team because he doesn't think he can lead instead of just asking Cap if he wants to lead instead of him. Tony being an unsure leader is fine; having no one go "well if you don't want to lead then you don't have to" is silly.

The animation was rather poor and also fitting in the rather bland nature of the show. The "cinematic" editing style is rather badly done. It just feels like it's trying to hard to be the movies without actually understanding why the movies are well liked. So they just end up trying to copy them, which just feels hollow. Also if they're going to have Tony put on a new prototype suit then at least make it a different design than his old one or don't bother with a new suit.

It has potential, buried deep, but right now it looks like something I won't be bothering with.

The Part II was much better than Part I - still some gaping plot holes, but in the usual areas (travel time from the Antarctic to NYC, even with Thor creating a vortex, with Stark at "Death's Door"? His vitals were dropping fast, and something tells me a SHIELD flying car isn't meant to go thousand of miles per minute....but AEMH had the same problem, with the Hulk bounding from Canada to Nevada while carrying Hawkeye, and things like that - more of a genre foul than a AvAssembled problem, methinks).. The lighting and the animation in general seemed less spotty and more "finished". The dialogue was better (marginally). Hulk hitting his teammates was funny once, now verging on getting stale.

Better, but not above "meh" so far. Still, I'll take "improvement".

That's good to know that she isn't being pigeonholed anymore. There was stretch about a year or two ago where she seemed to be in every game I played (mostly fighting games) and was voicing teenagers or young adults.

Oh Bailey's still getting pigeonholed. She's just been pigeonholed as the badass since she left FUNimation. She's really only done a cutesy voice once since she left FUNimation behind and that was a one-off as a young girl named Aki in the Iron Man anime. Especially since Saint's Row 3 she's basically just been using a variation of her "badass" voice in most roles (the only recent exception being Dragon Kid in Tiger & Bunny and Dragon Kid is still a badass, she's just a child badass).

From one typecast to another. That's how voice acting goes.

Find it hard to beleive how this upcoming set has more than one normally-considered "politically incorrect" cartoon in new restoration form..

I'm not Canadian but I'm kind of upset that Teletoon became Cartoon Network Canada.
It's official: I have now preordered GTA VI for PlayStation 5; the more expensive and feature-complete Ultimate Edition of the game, that is. I also intend to buy a PS5 Slim optical drive next month (EDIT: Done!) in the hopes of maybe indirectly convincing SIE to reverse its controversial plans to go all-digital on all post–Jan 2028 PS console games, even though GTA VI is a digital-only game.
Happy anniversary to "SpongeBob's Big Birthday Blowout".
