I finally picked up Looney Tunes Collector’s Choice Volume 3, completing my (current) collection of LT sets released by the Warner Archives.

Peanuts Holiday Collection - Deluxe Edition (4K)

I decided to get it since I watch the holiday specials on Apple TV. It's also my first 4K that isn't a movie.

Casper the Friendly Ghost Collection 1945-1963
Despite the popularity of the character, these cartoons are often the whipping boy of Golden Age Animation fans (well these and, you know, most things made after the Golden Age) and I can’t pretend I don’t see why. There’s a lot of repetition, and they tend to prioritise cutesy appeal and pathos over gags in a way that can hit people in the wrong mood as saccharin. Still, I enjoy them and certainly didn’t want to turn down a complete series of Theatrical Cartoons for what was a decent price. Also included are a documentary, commentaries and the complete early 60s TV series, which were directly adapted from the comics that seemed to eclipse the cartoons in popularity and bring a bit more variety.

Based on what I’ve seen picture quality is variable but serviceable, the exception being the thirst three cartoons. These are listed as “Bonus Features”, which seems strange until you watch them. They are truly awful looking Public Domain prints, not worth watching when there must be better versions legally on YouTube.

So room for improvement if they ever do a Blu-ray (doubtful), but glad to have this, especially at this time of year.
