The case for another Toon Disney

Don't get me wrong. I'm growing to like Disney XD as they start to build their own identity but I miss what Toon Disney once was... a home for Disney's animation new and old. This is something I fully believe Disney should have because they're pretty lousy at getting their well known much less practically forgotten shows on DVD.

They have more than enough of a library to fill another full 24/7 network though they could do a time share I guess.

This channel would obvoiusly not be very available and have to work it's way up from obscurity as the original did but I think there's still a value in having it at least for family cable tier packages.

Here's a sample schedule.

It's all DISNEY made or made for DISNEY animation with a few exceptions but those expections would be series made for Jetix that DXD doesn't play much if at all and probably wont bring back (and in filler slots for that matter) and a small sum of Marvel since Disney now owns Marvel and DXD probably wont be playing the 90s Marvel shows forever. I considered throwing in the Warner shows on DXD but thought against it... they can stay on DXD hopefully with more airings than just once a week.

I didn't include Phineas and Ferb since it gets plenty of play still nor Proud Family since it's on BET (I think?) and possibly still on Disney Channel from time to time... I never check honestly. But those could be included as well at least eventually.

Let me know if I left anything out that Disney made or has been made for Disney. But remember it's JUST cartoons.

I couldn't think of any other original Disney shorts compilation shows that have existed besides maybe... Mouse Tracks so I just made an hour block of classic Disney animation perhaps it could have new packaging.

Yes I put the Disney Afternoon shows in a prime spot cause I'm bias... though I'd probably catch the overnight showing since I'd still be at work when the afternoon / evening block is going.

As nice as this would be, I doubt Disney would do it, as they wouldn't see the market for a new TV channel of nothing but re-runs of older animated shows. Maybe Disney should consider streaming a bunch of their older shows online, since that would be the least difficult option and the public would have a way to watch them.

I rebuilt Toon Disney in one of the very first Scratchbuilding articles I wrote. It's a good plan, but I can make it better.

I completely forgot about that. I'm going to have another look at that and see how I can improve my plan as well.

Ishtar, good point about streaming shows online. Disney could make a huge database of streaming shows and every view would count that way. In this day and age it's probably the better way to go. Still... I would like to see another Toon Disney on television some day.

I'd think that as long as there were some new shows (Say from 5:PM to 10:PM) to make some money that a network could be for mostly retro programs.

Well I guess I'd be willing to give up my great Disney Afternoon block in favor of making the channel more marketable and since Disney is picking up talent from some rather unexpected places they could use the channel to try out new programs the way Nicktoons does for Nickelodeon.

Same here. I mean, the fact that Disney has a few more variables at their disposal (i.e. they don't have to put Muppet Babies on DVD, but nobody said they couldn't air it, not to mention that Marvel variable). Plus, they need to create a channel boys and girls can watch together instead of making a gender-specific one (and yes, Disney Channel is largely a girl-themed network in comparison to Disney XD). Plus, there's no Jetix anymore at all, so that's something I couldn't have foreseen happening in my original experiment.

So, that's why there's going to be a 2.0 of that article soon.

I would be thrilled with that schedule, Sketch. It seems like Disney (Or at least Disney Channel) is beginning to stray away from animation. Live-Action may be getting them recent, but I really wish that they would just keep time for both. Disney XD is fine, but it just doesn't feel right to me. I miss the original Toon Disney days.

I like it.

Disney isn't going to create another channel for all that stuff if they can't even complete any of their Disney Afternoon series on DVD.

Some of those shows don't have nearly enough episodes to run on a regular daily slot.

Also there doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to how you ordered them.

Great schedule sketch I just don't think disney would make another new channel though. Of course disney could create toondisney.com to stream all of their animation.

Sweet! It's finally finally starting to convert you.

I didn't include Phineas and Ferb since it gets plenty of play still nor Proud Family since it's on BET (I think?) and possibly still on Disney Channel from time to time... I never check honestly. But those could be included as well at least eventually.

As far as The Proud Family goes I haven't seen it on either channel in a long time. With the exception of the movie.

I wish that Disney would create their own version of TV Land. In other words, I would suggest that they bring back Vault Disney, if they refuse to appeal to other viewers on the proper Disney Channel. The Disney Channel to me, jumped the shark/boned the fish/nuked the fridge the moment that they decided to stop being a general audience channel and go exclusively to the preteen/Zoog crowd (presumably to build off of the momentum created by Lizzie McGuire).

Disney has been launching Disney Cinemagic in several European countries recently. Since that channel is more or less what Toon Disney used to be, maybe we'll see a US launch sometime in the future, since the Toon Disney and Jetix brands are almost completely dead now. Probably not, but you never know.

Oh yeah.....Vault Disney is where i watched Zoro. I miss that block....came on at 12am.

As far as The Proud Family goes I haven't seen it on either channel in a long time. With the exception of the movie.

The Proud Family airs weekdays at 3:00am on Disney Channel, not that I care to watch it, but just letting you know. And I have no idea about BET, as I don't recieve the channel

I checked the BET schedule - It airs mini marathons on Saturday mornings.

I loved Toon Disney I didnt watch XD until Spidey came around. Seeing it back would make my day!

Okay hear me out, Isn't it kind of crazy how CN never thought about doing a Kids Next Door x Teen Titans OG crossover back in the 2000s? There's five members of Sector V, five titans, and they both have super cool HQs. I'm telling you guys, a TT and KND crossover would've been so epic!
Watched the live-action "Moana" today and felt nothing that special compared to the original 2016 film. In fact, I don't remember much from the first animated film, but I think they barely changed anything in the 2026 version
@Sam the Cartoonist is right, I've registered on this site two times and I've enjoyed it! :) I'd posted this back in 2016, over ten years ago!
