This is the first Disney movie I saw in theaters. I love the soundtrack. I plan on checking it out from the library.

This is the first Disney movie I saw in theaters and the first movie I saw more than once as well. One of my all time favorites.

I used to really love The Lion King, but watching them all recently,I'd have to say I like most of the other '90's films more (Beauty and the Beast,Pocahontas,Tarzan,Hunchback of Notre Dame and Mulan for the "classic 2-D films" and especially love the stop motion The Nightmare Before Christmas)....this is one of the Disney movies I saw on opening day (June 24,1994...the day after my 15th birthday)....the others are Pocahontas,Hunchback of Notre Dame,Hercules,Mulan, and Tarzan....

As for the positives...
I like the "Circle of Life" opening with all the animals gathering to see the newborn Simba...
The scene where Simba finds Mufasa's dead body still makes me cry whenever I see it....great voice-acting from Jonathan Taylor-Thomas
The hyenas...they were all pretty funny...
Rafiki...He also got many funny scenes...especially love when he was beating up a group of hyenas later in the film...
Mufasa....He was a great father, and I love the scene where his ghost visits the Adult Simba...

Mufasa: Simba...you have forgotten me....

Simba: ..No,how could I?

Mufasa: You have forgotten who you are,and so,have forgotten me...Look inside yourself,Simba...You are more than what you have become...You must take your place in the circle of life...

Simba:...How can I go back?....I'm not who I used to be...

Mufasa: Remember who you are!!!...You are my son,and the one true king....

This was a truly epic movie. Disney's masterpiece. Its a story about a being reclaiming their life. Its also about justice. If The Princess and the Frog is half as good as this masterpiece, it will be stunning.

Probably my third-favorite of the Disney Renaissance movies, behind Tarzan and Beauty & the Beast. Nice art (including some of the most scenic backgrounds Disney's ever done), comic-relief characters that are funnier then they are annoying (it was a nice change), and memorable music... well, a couple of memorable pieces of music, anyway. And Scar is one of the best Disney villains ever, if only for his voice.

I have few issues with it, relating to some annoying voice-work for some important characters (mainly Adult Simba and Adult Nala). It also sucks that despite a huge budget and full animation, there are no big show-stopping animated sequences like Never Had a Friend Like Me or Be Our Guest or the Hydra battle in Hercules.

...so, anybody going to bring up Kimba, or should I?:anime:

(Hey, CartoonLover, you ought to make articles on some of Disney's older movies too.)

This is one of my favorite Disney movies. It's one of the first Disney movies I actually remember watching. I remember that my parents would take me to see it like every weekend during its theater run. My family and I even went to see it when it had another theater run a few years ago. I love the storyline since it's so emotionally touching. I would always cry during the Mufasa's death scene. The soundtrack is one of my favorites as well. It was an enjoyable movie.

I really like this one. Growing up I only had Lion King 2 on tape, so I didn't get to watch this one that often. Scar is awesome. :D

I have one friend who is really obsessed with this one, though. She even wanted to speak Swahili because of this.

Truley one of my favorite Disney films. Every thing about it was brilliant.

Ah, Lion King. Disney's most successful animated film, and thus the higest grossing 2D animated film.
It's truly a classic, and I really enjoyed it. Too bad it doesn't come on TV as much as the other movies, I should watch my DVD copy again.

again, another favorite

don't know what hasn't been said about this movie

why isn't there a talkback for "The Little Mermaid"?:p

***** stars no question. This was a very awesome movie.

"Circle of Life", "I Just Can't Wait to Be King", and Mufasa's death wouldn't qualify as show-stopping animated sequences? These are some of my favorite scenes to come out of any animated movie, equally as memorable and stunning as the ones you mentioned IMO.

Just another 90's Disney flick where the crew puts all of their talent and energy into the songs, leaving the stories to pretty much be on par with your average Saturday morning cartoon. That doesn't make it a terrible movie, just an uninteresting one. It's been awhile since I've gone an entire week without listening to Be Prepared at least once, though.

...Wait, so the Hamlet is on par with a Saturday morning cartoon?

You had to have been there... five years old, impressionable, gulliable, marketable... wonderful. Hey, it got me through kindergarten. ;)

Watched the live-action "Moana" today and felt nothing that special compared to the original 2016 film. In fact, I don't remember much from the first animated film, but I think they barely changed anything in the 2026 version
@Sam the Cartoonist is right, I've registered on this site two times and I've enjoyed it! :) I'd posted this back in 2016, over ten years ago!
