"Partners" has nothing to do with Doc Ock, so that one makes no sense. "The Cat" and "The Black Cat" is more of the introduction of the Black Cat, and Doc Ock is really nothing more than a second-rate guy there. Why not put "Make a Wish" and "Attack of the Octobot" there instead, as those feature him better? Unless of course, Disney is counting on the sex appeal of the Black Cat to sell more DVDs.

Actually, I'm new here, so maybe someone can help answer why hasn't Disney released the 1994 show in DVD season sets, since that is how John Semper created the thing from Season 2 on. These episodes being show out of place is really confusing for one who hasn't seen the whole series, like me, or anyone watching the show on ABC Family.

"Make a Wish" and "Attack of the Octobot" were included on the first Spider-Man TAS disc, The Ultimate Villain Showdown.

While I enjoyed "The Cat" and "The Black Cat", I have to say that I am very disappointed that those episodes will be on the disc. They have more to do with Felicia Hardy and her origin as the Black Cat than they do with Doc Ock. I would have liked to have seen "The Insidious Six" and "Battle of the Insidious Six" included instead. Those are better Ock episodes, in my opinion.

One thing I liked about this two-parter was how you could see the influence of the comics. The Six in the cartoon were based on the Sinister Six, although the line-up was a little different (see ASM Annual #1 for the first appearance of the Sinister Six). The unmasking of Spidey in "Battle" was reminiscent of ASM #12, where Doc Ock unmasked an ill Spider-Man, and believed that it was only Peter Parker dressed up as the wallcrawler!

In this case, unfortunately you are right, the episodes are out of order. The three episodes after "Doctor Octopus: Armed and Dangerous" are from Season Four, "Partners in Danger". The episodes from that season are episodes 2, 3, and 5. I don't understand why they wouldn't have just included the first three episodes, rather than skipping Episode 4 - "The Return of Kraven". It really doesn't make any sense.

I do hope that future Spider-Man discs beyond the upcoming Doc Ock and Venom discs will be announced, and that there will be plans to release the Insidious Six episodes, the X-Men crossover, and others. But I am especially hoping to eventually see season sets.

The episodes are a little dissapointing. I mean, Partners has absoloultly nothing to do with Doc Ock at all! As said above, this is more of a Black Cat DVD.

While I greatly enjoyed the Black Cat 2 parter, it's a little dissapointing that it was chosen over the Insidious Six episodes. Doc Ock was in a shedload of episodes, most of which would've been better placed here.

I think there will be more features than what was announced in the press release, as we've already been informed that commentaries, Stan's Soapbox and a trailer for the upcoming Venom DVD are on the disc.

And I really wanted The Lizard episode!

I fail to see the point in 60's episode, it takes up space in which they could've used an Amazing Friends episode, or another TAS episode.

Once again, Disney/Buena Vista predictably ignores any Marvel animation from the 1980s. Instead of 22 minutes of material (only half of which actually features Doc Ock) that is going to be released in a complete re-mastered form on a shortly-forthcoming DVD anyway, I would've thought that any of the full-length episodes featuring Ock from either the solo Spidey show, Spider-Friends or the 1982 Hulk show would have been far better choices.

Also, continually releasing episodes of the 90s Spidey show in this manner has finally caused me to drop these releases. If there's any show that has to be seen properly in order - then this is the one. Continuity was so tight on the show that I'm amazed these "selected episode" releases are still going. They should just put out season sets or not bother at all.

As I mentioned earlier in this thread, the episodes included from Partners in Danger are Episodes 2, 3, and 5. So, not only are they including episodes that have little to do with Doc Ock (who this disc is supposed to be themed around), but they are skipping episodes as well! If they were determined to include the two-part Black Cat story, then wouldn't it have made more sense to include the first episode from that season? In that case, they would have had Episodes 1-3 rather than having skipped over an episode.

I would love to see any of those episodes included on the disc! It would make a lot of sense to include one of those episodes. If Disney/Buena Vista were "testing the waters" for a 60s Spider-Man set by including episodes on the first three discs, then wouldn't it make sense to do the same for one of the 80s Marvel toons? I think Spider-Friends would do really well, and it would be nice to see episodes from that show included as bonus episodes instead of episodes from the 60s series.

I really hope they will come to their senses and do that. The Spider-Man TAS discs have been doing very well, so perhaps when they see how successful the Batman and Superman season sets do, they'll consider season sets for Spider-Man TAS. *fingers crossed*

Well, I guess the choice of episodes isn't completely bad. I thought for sure this would have just been a theme disc with alot of Doc Ock centered episodes thrown in. I like the fact they got his first episode in here, but The Cat episodes really push him to the background. I don't think he's even in the fourth one.

Same here. Whilst we have to wait 2 weeks later than the rest of you lot for the film, it's going to be an expensive few weeks for DVD. Spider-Man Vs Doc Ock, the Batman Box set, the possibility of some Batman Beyond/Teen Titans discs and the Butterfly Effect, there's a lot to spend right there.

If only Disney did screener copies...

Classic Spidey background music

I hope those dvd's do indeed keep the original music 100% intact.

A while back I found a post by this guy in Canada who had mixed together a lot of the background and theme music onto a cd, even made covers and stuff. I bought a copy.. it didn't cost much more than the materials and shipping. The inside cover has a bunch of stills from the show and looks pretty much like this:

you can even hear some of the tracks by mousing over the first dozen or so images (in most browsers)

I'm not sure if he's still sending out copies. You could try contacting him I guess. There was a group of people back then who were trying to get a definitive version of that cd put out by the original studio. The cd he sent me has 75 tracks and is nearly 60 minutes long. there's some sound effects and dialogue here and there, but it's pretty damn cool all the same.

In the new issue of Uncanny X-Men, there's a full page advertisement for these DVDs, and it still looks really enticing to get. Did they release the full specs to it? There's no blurb about any bonus features on the ad.

No. So far we've learned there's a few interviews with various people and a written introduction with Stan Lee. I highly doubt that is all, it wouldn't make sense, a big box set with minimal features.

No, Ock isn't in the fourth episode, "Partners". This episode summary is from DR4G's Spider-Man site:

Black Cat decides to go solo, since Spidey doesn't want to be her partner. But no sooner does she decided this that Toomes Aerodynamics is robbed, and the leader of the operation is Alistair Smythe, who overpowers the Cat and Spidey, and takes Cat hostage. Now in the employ of "baby" Silvermane, Smythe holds Cat hostage so Spider-Man will do his bidding. Spidey's quest is to find either the missing Scorpion or The Vulture (samples of Neogenic engineering) so that Smythe can use it to bring Silvermane back to adulthood. Spidey gets Doc Conners help to set a trap to catch Scorpion, but no sooner then Spidey gives Smythe the Scorpion, then the Vulture comes (thanks to Gargan's girlfriend Sarah) and swaps life force with Silvermane, reverting Silvermane to an old man, and Vulture to his young form. In the end, after the Recombinator and building blow up, Spidey and Black Cat become partners.

Interesting little ad. Nice to get some finalization on what we'll see on the DVD. Looks to be a good effort, like the previous releases. While I wish we'd get bigger sets, these single disc releases will have to do for now.

I hear you. I can't see me buying this as soon as it comes out. It's going to be such an expensive set and there's no way I can afford to buy it right away. It'll take awhile to save up for. I really wish we would get a complete list of extras, though. I doubt there will be a big list of extras.
