Something has been bugging me lately. Spider-Man: The Venom Saga is on hold indefinitely apparently becuase of the lawsuit between Marvel and Disney. Now wouldn't this affect the 60's Marvel Superheroes DVD as well?

Yes, it would affect it. I don't think we will see the 60's Marvel Superheroes DVD announced by the studio until we see that Spider-Man: The Venom Saga has been put back on the schedule. I hope I'm wrong, but that would only be logical.

Spider-Man: The Venom Saga was so close to release date that production on it would be close to being finished. It only makes sense that we would see this title on the schedule BEFORE seeing something new announced. (And the 60's Marvel Superheroes DVD has never been formally announced by the studio despite the fact that it is listed on AMAZON.COM already.)

I'd love to see Spider-Woman on DVD! There were 16 episodes total; I've only seen 5. TV Tome has a page with episode summaries.

I'd probably buy this if it came out. There were actually 16 episodes, which was unusual for a cartoon of this time period. (The standard was 13 episodes per season.)

A brief update:

During a recent conversation with Boyd Kirkland, he informed me that WB is hard at work on the next DVD set for X-Men: Evolution. The biggest surprise is the fact that WB is heavily considering putting the entire third season in one set. It's not confirmed, but WB is considering playing around with the format for the next release. With any luck, we should be getting an announcement very soon.

going back to what Jim said, if they are thinking of putting all episodes on one disc then do you think that will come later in the year, if they are still thinking about it then theres a lot to do before it comes out,

I love the Marvel shows but something does need to be straightened out here. They got better ratings because Fox had more affiiates than WB back during that time. While Batman was on Fox it was usually their highest rated show or was neck and neck with X-Men and Spider-Man. When they moved Batman to WB Spider-Man and X-Men got way better ratings but only because WB hadn't hit it big yet like they are now.

I do agree with you though. Seeing those box sets not only makes me appreciate the MTV Spider-Man disc set but makeme wish Disney would wise up and get cracking on Spider-Man and X-Men box sets. I really hope there is some outcome on that Dusney/Marvel lawsuit becuase I really need some Marvel DVDs and soon!

I'm not a huge fan of the Spider-Woman show, but I would like to see it on DVD (along with ALL of Marvel's classic animation shows). Spider-Woman as a character was simply conceived just to protect potential trademarks of female counterparts of famous Marvel characters (to prevent someone like DC making up their own Spider-Woman). To that extent, her comics origin was somewhat convoluted and rushed.

For the show, they virtually made everything up about the whole set-up, with Jessica Drew now working at Justice Magazine with photographer Phil and her nephew Billy at her side. My guess is that the makers were subliminally going for a Spider-Man type set-up with the journalist angle.

The plots of the actual episodes were hopelessly simplistic, but that's to be expected since they were written by the main writer of Super Friends. Spider-Man himself shows up on a couple of occasions, but there's no reference to Peter Parker. With this being his first animated appearance since his 60s show, Spider-Man's voice is quite similar to the 'look at me, I'm a super-hero' style voice he had on the older show. It is nice that the animators finally drew in all his costume's webs this time.

Although Spider-Woman was from the same makers as The New Fantastic Four, DePatie-Freleng clearly learned from their mistakes on their previous Marvel series. Whereas The New Fantastic Four was full of some very badly done animation, Spider-Woman's animation was immeasurably improved in comparison. They still made use of some stock animation, but DePatie-Freleng were clearly on the way to making the far higher standard of animation (thankfully sans most stock animation) that they would produce as Marvel Productions in a couple of years.

Spider-Man: The Venom Saga - Summer 2005

And, Disney will not be releasing Marvel Superheroes. They will be releasing the 1994 Fantastic Four series INSTEAD (also Summer 2005). And, it's going to be multi-disc! That could mean we have a season, or, dare I say it, a series box set.

Formal announcements are expected by Buena Vista in the next few weeks. These have been confirmed by TVShowsOnDVD, so that's good enough for me...

I think the designers made it impossible to use Peter Parker. Not that they wanted to use him but he would be very hard to distinguish from Jeff, the photographer, since animation drawings are so simple. I almost think Jeff is a similar circumstance as Angelica on Spider-Man & his Amazing Friends:

Angelica is a red-head; What the heck, make her look like Mary Jane Watson.
Jeff is a photographer; What the heck, make him look like Peter Parker.

If the FF set is the complete series, then I'm going to feel A WHOLE LOT better about Disney (Buena Vista) making more Marvel DVDs! Heck even if it is the whole first season, it is still a lot better than single disc releases we've been getting from the 90s Spider-Man.

Apparently they are starting to realize what the fans want: BOXED SETS!

Yes, that's true. It comes back to what I said about the whole circumstances of the show evoking the journalism angle of Spider-Man's world. Even as a kid I could tell that Jeff was based heavily on Peter Parker. When Spider-Man himself showed up, the situation almost became laughable.
