The "What'cha Been Playin'?" Thread

That's a shame. Personally, I loved all the episodes of the Back to the Future game. I was especially compelled on the idea of Marty and Alt. 1985 Doc talking about the consequences of altering the past and how this will personally affect Edna.

I didn't care for that because of how it resulted in Doc basically becoming the "villain" of Episode 5 and working against Marty. I thought that was really bizarre, and watching Marty coerce Doc by threatening to cut off the oxygen supply to young Emmett in the tank was, frankly, depressing. I also thought the fourth episode, where you have to find ways to convince Edna to break up with Doc, was really boring and the puzzles to figure out were absolutely tedious. I know that Marty had to break them up, but it almost felt mean-spirited in a way.

Also, it really bugged me that the game developers left a huge gaping plot hole in the story: when Doc's past was altered and he became Citizen Brown, the DeLorean should have vanished from existence (since Doc abandoned science and thus never would have built it in the first place), which would have stranded Marty in the Alternate 1986 and left him unable to repair the timeline. (Unless Citizen Brown could have built a new one, which might have taken years.) I did enjoy the game at times, mostly the early stages that actually felt like a Back to the Future adventure, and I thought the voice acting was top notch. But the story, which I thought dragged on and became less interesting as it progressed, and the often-spotty gameplay ultimately just left me disappointed.

Mass Effect 1
Noveria is done. I ended up going back to the Citadel just to see if there was something I missed. Now I'm on my way to finish up the last little bit of side missions before heading to Virmire. I'm kinda thinking that I should've made Shep a Vanguard instead of a Soldier since I'm not very confident in the Vanguard abilities in ME2.

Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3
Last time I posted about this I thought I finally had my team(s) figured out, but I didn't. I'm currently having a character crisis, but it's much different than my crisis that I usually go through in Super Street Fighter 4. In SSF4 I'm usually stuck trying to find a character that suit my style or get bored very easily with some of the characters that're easy to play with, but here in Marvel I'm finding myself trying to narrow down the options since there are so many to choose from. If there was one flaw I had to point out about having a large roster this would be it. Trying to narrow down the options so you can form and focus on one specific team. There are so many combinations that I want to try out that I'm going in circles with everything and not really accomplishing much. As of right now, My character choices are Nova, Spencer, Vergil, Hawkeye, and Taskmaster. Last time I posted, I said I wouldn't drop Dante, and I haven't, but he'll be on the back burner for the time being because his Bold Cancel requires more practice than any of these characters (at least for me that is, especially since I'm using the default ps3/xbox 360 controller). Vergil, I'm beginning to understand his timing more, and in return he's not as boring as I once made him out to be. I've already explained Spencer, but for the sake of conversation all 5 of these characters (including Wolverine) are fairly easy to learn. I think the hardest character in this bunch is Vergil because of his sword-loops, but I beginning to understand how it's done.

New Teams:
Nova, Spencer, Hawkeye/Taskmaster
Nova, Vergil, Hawkeye/Taskmaster
Spencer, Vergil, Hawkeye/Taskmaster

Nova/Hawkeye is shell 1 and Nova/Taskmaster is shell 2. I can probably have Shell 3 be Taskmaster/Spencer (with the anchor character being Vergil), but anyway, I will probably never drop Spencer since he is so fun. Spencer and Dante are probably the funnest characters in the game imo, and because of the fun I'm having in training mode alone (not to mention learning how to utilize training mode here far more than I know how to in SSF4) pushes this game ahead of SSF4 in terms of favorite.

On top of being hooked onto UMvC3, all the other games that I've ordered finally arrived recently, but when will I actually get to them will be the question that remains to be unanswered.

Pokémon Black 2.
Only two Badges left.

Been a while since I posted here. Despite playing a good amount of games for the past few weeks, I didn't feel like posting anything until now.

One of the games I've been playing a lot recently was BioShock Infinite. I'm really enjoying this game and the characters in it. In fact, I'm not going to talk about it much until I finish it. The students at the technology center on my campus really enjoy watching me play. Some even know more about the story than me, but I always tell them not to spoil anything. I like to be surprised.

I've also been playing the Challenge Tower of Mortal Kombat (2011). Challenge Tower is a number a challenges and minigames you can play for koins (koins unlock hidden content in the Krypt). The challenges range from hitting your opponent in various part of their body to board breaking to fighting using only special moves, among numerous other things. If a challenge is too hard for you, you can just skip it, but it will cost you koins. I heard that one challenge has you playing as Goro, the four-armed giant who's a boss battle. Normally he's unplayable, so I really want to find that challenge.

I got Angry Birds on my iPad a few weeks ago when it was the App of the Week at the App Store. Apps of the Week are free, so I took advantage of this to download this addictive game, especially when it's normally $3.99 (or 2.99. I'm not sure). I'm having a lot of fun playing this. Last month, Rovio released Angry Birds Toons for anyone who has an Angry Birds game of any kind. Angry Birds Toons is an animated series of shorts that follow the lives of the titular birds and their enemies, the Bad Piggies. So far, three shorts have been released with a new one premiering each Sunday. They have 52 shorts planned with 4 seasons.

Other games I played on Xbox 360 are Left 4 Dead 2, NBA Jam, and Rayman Origins.

Other games I played on my iPad are Where's my Water?, Clay Jam, Burt Destruction, Punch Quest, Icomania, and Solitaire.

Mass Effect 1 completed. I just beat the game about 10 minutes ago. The only thing I didn't really care for in this game was driving the Mako. Seriously, I don't ever recall have this much of a problem when it came to driving the Mako. If anything, I just hated driving over some of the terrains on some of the other planets because it just felt long and tedious driving up rocky surfaces only to have you slowly slide down no matter how long you hold the analog stick forward. Even worst, I don't know how or why but I couldn't drive that thing in a straight line for nothing this time around. When driving on Ilos, I just had the toughest of times driving that thing in a straight path. Oh, I did manage to run into quite a few glitches as well. When shutting down the Geth Posts, I don't remember which planet I was on, but I started a long distance fight with the Geth (real long. I was by some minerals or something) and Garrus started firing his gun and when the fight was over he was still firing. Entered the Mako, and he was still firing away. Went into the building and he was still shooting. The only way I could get him to stop was to leave the planet. With that being said I still had a blast playing through the game again. I chose to let the council live just to see what happens in ME2. I ended up going finishing with Garrus and Tali on my squad although I probably should've brought Liara along just for the final fight with Saren.

Back to Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3 in the meantime until I figure out what to play next. Not exactly sure if I want to jump right into Mass Effect 2 yet or try out Dragon Age 2. Anyway, the last team, Spencer, Vergil, Taskmaster, I decided to switch that team around a bit and make it Taskmaster, Spencer and Vergil. All 3 characters are great at the point position while both Vergil and Spencer are better anchor characters with Vergil being better than Spencer at that position altogether. A lot of people do not want to deal with a lvl 3 X factor Vergil so chances are they'll snap him in and deal with some combo extensions and mixups. The versatility of this team is too good.

Harmoknight. I'm digging it so far, but the boss battles feel a bit iffy because Tempo seems to react slowly whenever he has to make a left or right turn. I'm stuck on "Dragnarock's Revenge" because I'm either that awful and missing the beat somehow or the controls during this portion is just not that good.

Alright everything in my last post about Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3 can be tossed out. I played my brother-in-law in a long session today and truth be told I got bopped. I did have fun and I did a lot better than our last playthrough since most of the games were fairly close. He won a few that were very convincing (no perfects though), and the others you can basically say I gave away since I kept trying to go for long fancy combos (heck, wouldn't even call the fancy since they were regular bread n butter combos). I did learn a couple of things though. 1) I need to stick with Spencer, Dante, Hawkeye, and Nova or all the other characters (Wolverine can be tossed in as well) since I'm better with them, and they fit my style of play. I didn't really start winning games until I started using Spencer, Dante, Hawkeye or Nova, Dante, Hawkeye. 2) Like I said, I kept going for bread n butter combos when I really should have kept it simpler than that, especially with Dante. 3) I need to be in training mode more than 2 days a week. I also gotta say I was not expecting my brother-in-law to pick up Vergil. Now I really know how other folks feel when facing a lvl 3 X factor Vergil.

I also created my Xbox Live account finally only to find out that my ME1 game will not transfer to ME2.. bummer, but oh well, new name so it's understandable. So other than playing UMvC3, there's a good chance I'll be playing ME1 again along with Halo Reach and then Halo 4.

I've been making some pretty good progress in KH:BBS, Ven's Story...

1. I finally cleared the rest of Radiant Garden. It took me a few tries to beat the Trinity Armor but I finally got the hang of Ven's Dodge Roll. I kinda liked seeing Lea (Axel) & Isa (Saix). They seemed like brothers.

2. I got through DisneyTown pretty well. The Ice Cream Beat isn't as difficult as it seems, it just takes practice.

3. Olympus Coliseum was the easiest to clear, including the Beat the Urn challenge against Hercules.

4. I beat the first mission at Mirage Arena.

5. I won at the Toon Command Board and picked up a couple of new Finish Commands. Leveling up the Finish Commands is kinda fun.

Next time, I'm gonna try and go back to Terra's Story and try and level up the rest of his Finish Commands. Then, I'll go back to Ven's Story and head off to Stitch's area.

Tomb Raider the Reboot
It's not what I'd call "What the franchise needed", I'm very early in to tell. I know these QTE are annoying when they don't respond

Reading over my last post. Lots of typos. Anyway;

Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3
I went through Captain America, Ryu, and Akuma's Mission mode, and while I'm stuck on mission 8 (I can't get the timing down for these X-factor combos for nothing), I am into a deeper character crisis since Cap is another fun and damaging character and I'm far from narrowing these characters down to form a fun team. For the time being I'm taking a break from the fighters.

Uncharted 2: Among Thieves
Finally getting around to playing this game. Not far at all. Just reaching chapter 2, I think it is.. When you first starting traveling with Sully. So far the way the game plays feels good. Nothing feels sluggish or slow to respond. Liking the characters that were introduced so far. I really like the visuals so far, especially the snowy beginning. I'm looking forward to completing this game and moving onto Drake's Deception, although, I should probably buy Drake's Fortune and finish that one up, but then again, I didn't really care much for that one.

Alpha Protocol
Hate it. I know it's not fair to judge it so harshly when I haven't even put 30 minutes into the game, but the game just comes off as boring. There's nothing even there to excite me or get me looking forward to progressing through these sneaking moments.

Other than that, fighting games will be on hold while I finally get to these other games in the backlog.

Tolerating my used PSP. It's a 1000 model and while it plays the games after fifteen minutes to fourty five minutes it stops. This would be incredibly frustrating if not for sleep mode. I put my PSP to sleep for ten to fifteen minutes and it lets me play again. Still it's frustrating but hey it's a used system, used games, I get what I paid for.

Currently playing Crisis Core FFVII. I am not a completest so while I'm at the end of the story I completed maybe ten percent of the optional missions. As a result I seem to be under powered for the final boss. Now I have to do the missions to power up.

Luigi's Mansion 2
I'm really liking it so far.

Finally beat Red Dead Redemption tonight. Overall, I loved the story and the characters, and I think the desert looks gorgeous, but the game itself is an absolute bore to play. None of the missions were really fun, mechanics like taming horses or herding cattle or dueling or aiming suck, and trying to get all the extras is a complete chore, so I suppose I'm not coming back to it. Might do Undead Nightmare somewhere down the line. Game took me six months to beat.

Next for the X-Box 360, I'll finally be getting around to Final Fantasy XIII. The Legend Of Zelda: Skyward Sword is still sitting in the Wii. Also thinking of starting Riviera for PSP and Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: Ring Of Fates for the DS. Gotta chug through this backlog before I get a Wii U or a PS4. That's my task for myself.

I've been playing Ni No Kuni for the last few weeks. I think I'm pretty far in or at the halfway point. Really fun game and it really does feel like it belonged in another era. The one thing that bugs me though is the whole familiar leveling system. I just don't like that when you evolve them they revert back to level 1 so I never find the a good time to play around with other ones that I've caught. But I'm having a blast with it otherwise.

Bug! and Crazy Taxi 2.

Seriously, I need to look for more dreamcast and saturn games... such as Clockwork Knight on the saturn and Jet Grind Radio on the Dreamcast.

Finished Fire Emblem (GBA).
Good god, those last few chapters were brutal, especially if you're trying to not lose a single party member.
Anyway, after a while, I'm gonna start Fire Emblem: Awakening.

Also in Pokémon Black 2, I've now got the last two Badges, and now the game's making me do some other stuff before I go after the Pokémon League.

And finally, I've started my third playthrough of Kingdom Hearts II.
I'm at the part where I'm about to witch over from Roxas to Sora.

The main thing that bugged me (sorry) about Bug! was that, AFAIK, you couldn't skip the intro sequence. And it's a good two minutes long. So every time you start the game, you're forced to watch it. What were they thinking?

Clockwork Knight is worth getting, though, even if it's a pretty short game.

Finally finished Pokémon Black 2.

Kind of put off that I can't do a direct transfer of all my Pokémon in Black.

Then again, X & Y will be out later this year, so I figure that game'll probably have a direct transfer system in it.

Mushroom Garden on my phone. It's the silliest game I've ever played. All you do is grow mushrooms. But there's a Pokemon-like array of mushroom species to find, and they're so silly looking that I can't stop playing it to find more.

Today marks the 25th Year Anniversary of when Pokémon Crystal was released in North America. To this day, the Johto Games remain my favorite games in the Pokémon Franchise.
Today marks the 15th Year Anniversary of ThunderCats (2011). While I find it unfortunate that the show was canceled before it had a chance to finish its story, I am glad that the show's art director was willing to give fans closure via a podcast interview.
Okay, so I found out that Sailor Moon had meet and greets at Universal Studios back in May. It would have been so cool if we had that at the turn of the century. I have gotten hugs from a Sailor Moon and a Sailor Mars at a local con back in the 2010s and spent under $100 doing it, so I don't know if this is worth the splurge but I can see that these affluent geeky people are enjoying their Sailor Moon hugs.
The characters from Netflix's Mating Season apparently were born from the same deeps as the Warner Bros cartoon characters
