The "What'cha Been Playin'?" Thread

I just bought Yoshi's New Island (3DS) and I just cleared World 1! The game is fantastic and a lot of fun!:D

I also tried Aqua Pazza: Aqua Dream Plus Match (PS3). It may not be like Street Fighter, but it's still fun.:)

Finished The Last of Us.

Now playing:

Final Fantasy XIII- The last time I played this was almost four years ago, so I picked it back up and am trying to finish it.
Currently in Chapter 7.

One Piece: Romance Dawn- Recruited Usopp and am about to recruit Sanji.
Saints Row: The Third- I'm still pretty early in the game.
Kingdom Hearts II (third playthrough)- Suffered through the first song in Atlantica, and finished Port Royal.

And at some point, I need to pick Tropical Freeze back up.

Spider-Man 3 (PC)
Haven't played this for quite a while, and I'm still a stern defender of this game, it's loads of fun, still the most fun I had playing a Spider-Man game

Batman Arkham Origins (PC)
So far I did not face experience damaging bugs, beside the game freezing every now and then
Although it's not made by Rocksteady, I rank this game as a valuable part of the Arkham series
And it's amazing how some game franchises have a less than impressive first game, and amazing follow ups, Arkham series is one of them. I'm pretty excited for Arkham Knight, although my PC will probably not handle it well, and I won't be getting a system from the new generation to play only one game
Saints Row: The Third- I'm still pretty early in the game.
I had a lot of fun playing this one and its sequel, never touched the two games before it

Yoshi's New Island. What looks like an easy game with all the nice graphics hides a difficult game if you're looking to 100% it.

This week on Steam, I've been playing Team Fortress 2, Painkiller: Black Edition, Killing Floor, and Rift.

On my iPad, I've been playing Crazy Taxi, Clash of Clans, and Ski Safari: Adventure Time.

I gotten used to playing as all the classes in Team Fortress 2. Now I'm working on the class-specific achievements because you unlock new weapons for each class based on how many achievements you have. Along with the weapons that randomly drop, they really change up how the classes play.

Killing Floor is a co-op survival horror in which a team of mercenaries fight waves upon waves of freaky mutants. The players in this game are very friendly; healing others if they're hurt and sharing money to those who need it to buy from the trader in-between waves. It's a good thing too, because the tons of monsters you fight each wave require teamwork to get through. It's like what they say: don't split up the team.

I used to play Crazy Taxi as a kid on my Playstation 2. When I found out it was free on iPad, my eyes lit up with excitement. The objective is simple: drive around, find people, take them to their destination, and repeat. Despite the simplicity, it's arcade style gameplay is very fun and addicting. The only thing missing is a handbrake for drifting, because sometimes you just can't make that sharp turn.

Still on Chrono Trigger, but I know I'm getting close to the endgame here. Wouldn't be surprised if I finish it this weekend depending on how much time I spend on Infamous Second Son, which I started today.

Final Fantasy XIII- Been kinda slow playing this one. I'm still only on Chapter 7.

Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze- Made it to the final island in the game.
Juicy Jungle was hard.

One Piece: Romance Dawn- Recruited Sanji.

Saints Row: The Third- Starting Act 2.

This week on Steam, I'm still playing Team Fortress 2 and Killing Floor, but I'm also playing Orcs Must Die! and Rome: Total War.

On my iPad, I've been playing Crazy Taxi, Plants vs Zombies 2, and The Walking Dead.

Orcs Must Die! is a third person tower-defense game where you must use traps and weapons to prevent orcs and other creatures from entering a rift. What makes it unique from other tower-defense games is you can go out on the field and fight directly. So far I've finished eight levels. My favorite level is the one with the acid pits. You gain wind powers that can be used to push orcs into the pits, which saves money on laying traps.

Rome: Total War is a historical real time strategy/turn based management hybrid. I've heard good things about it, so I bought the gold edition for full price at $9.99. You play as a Roman faction that is trying to conquer the known world. While most of the fun come from the battles, managing settlements keeping an eye on other factions adds variety to the game. I've won some battles and taken over a few enemy towns, so I'd say I'm doing a decent job. I'm going to have to build some barracks in my cities because the troops I started with aren't going to last forever.

In Plants vs Zombies 2, a new update introduced the future world. This has been development a long time, so I'm glad that it finally came out. Now they're teasing a medieval world next. It has new plants, such as the laser bean. As its name implies, the laser bean fires laser beams that pierce multiple zombies. It's plant food ability is a massive laser that deals heavy damage in its row. They cost as much as a repeater, so I use the laser bean to replace them. There's also new zombies, like the jetpack zombie and the forcefield zombie. The jetpack zombie can fly over plants and the forcefield zombie emits a forcefield over three rows that can only be pierced by a laser bean. I only completed the first future level, but I will finish the rest eventually.

The Walking Dead is a point-and-click game based on the popular franchise of the same name. I've heard good things about it and the game's first episode is free on iPad, so thought I'd give it a shot. Since I'm a black man I really like how the protagonist is a well rounded black man, which is rare to see in video games and media in general. His black female companion is also good. I'm not much of a point-and-click person, but I'm liking this so far. I might buy the rest of the episodes once I'm finished the first one.

SSF4:AE2012
Same tired story. Going through my character crisis, but at the same time I want to say I'm getting through it. With Ultra SF4 coming out in August, and with the addition of Edition Select I've begun to settle with both Yang and Yun, mainly because of how fun they are and on a cool factor they rank up there with Jin, Hwaorang, and Guy. For gameplay purposes, well, I still have a vendetta against my brother-in-law for just picking shoto's all day, everyday, and now he added Guile to the mix. Nothing against him for his characters of choice (otherwise I'd counter pick, but I don't particularly find Ryu/Ken/Akuma's counter picks fun)

Street Fighter 3: 3rd Strike
Instead of making Dudley my main, I decided to make Yang my main. Saw a video of a Japanese player by the name of K.O using Yang and he made him look awesome, and I want to learn how to use Yang like that. Decided to make Dudley and Yun my secondaries. Can't drift too far away from Dudley. Man brings a lot of swag to the table to turn my back on.

GGXXAC+R
Johnny was pretty tough (playing on a standard controller sucks in this game), so I decided to try out Order Sol. Like what I've played of him so far. Gonna try Slayer next before deciding who the main and backup(s) will be.

Uncharted
While I started playing Among Thieves, I never bothered to finish the first game, and I make it a habit to finish the first game of a series (if I really like it) before moving on to the next.

Thinking about buying Blazblue: Chrono Phantasm as well. Been running into issues with Continnum Shift Extend. None of the characters really stick out to me. Hopefully if I get CP that'll change.

On Steam, I've been playing Scratches, Don't Starve, Team Fortress 2, and Orion: Dino Horde.

On my iPad, I've been playing Papa Sangre II and Castle Doombad.

Scratches is a point-and-click horror game where you play as horror novelist investigating a house he's living in for the Summer. So far no scares, just looking around and picking up things.

Don't Starve is a wilderness survival game where you're stuck in a weird world and have to live off the land. I know a thing or two about wilderness survival thanks to Boy Scouts, but the fantasy environment doesn't make it ant less difficult. As the name implies, I'm having trouble keeping a steady supply of food, especially meat. Of course, food's not the only problem, as I must also stay sane, healthy, and stay in the light at night. Going insane makes weird things happen and if you're in total darkness at night, you will be attacked by some kind of creature. I already died plenty of times, but all that does is encourage me to figure out how to stay alive longer.

Papa Sangre II is a very interesting game. It's almost entirely audio-based and uses the iPad's gyroscope. You are dead and have no memory of your past life. Fortunately, a spirit offers to help you find your memories and regain your past life. Why? He doesn't say, but I think the answers will come as I progress. Now the only things on the screen are a compass and buttons for your hands and feet. To find memories, you must listen for the sounds they make, turn towards them (that's where the iPad's gyroscope comes in), and walk towards it. You also have to be wary of mind slugs that guard the memories. If they touch you' it's game over. With headphones on, this game is very immersive and I sometimes want to close my eyes and only use my ears to play, but then I'll lose my balance.

Castle Doombad is a tower defense game where you play as a villain trying to keep heroes from rescuing his captured princess. While I generally like to play as good guys, I'm no stranger to being evil (thanks, Overlord games). This isn't your typical tower defense, as you put traps and minions in the path of the heroes instead of alongside them. I also like how the traps are powered by the screams of the princess. It's evil, yet an efficient renewable resource.

Been so addicted to Final Fantasy Tactics A2. Granted, I was a bit under the weather, so I had time to play the game. It's just so much fun being able to customize an army and take over a fantasy world!

One Piece: Pirate Warriors 2
I don't know anything about PW1, but as far as a Musou game goes this is good. Not nearly as much characters that're in DW or WO, but it's definitely enough. Considering the wide variety of characters in the series, and then the mass amounts of pirates in each crew, this game works so I can easily see why this style fits the game. Anyway, I've played as Luffy, Smoker, Ace, Kuzan (Aokiji?), Sanji, Zoro, Marco, and Mihawk. Of those I feel Mihawk might be the best character (then again, I think he might be the best in the game). He feels a lot like Zhang Liao where his attacks get stronger the more reps he does. Crowd control is easy with him.

I'm getting better at playing Don't Starve, meaning I'm staying alive longer. I unlocked two new characters to play as: Willow and Wolfgang. Willow is a pyromaniac who's immune to fire damage and carries a lighter that never rums out of fuel. She also has lower sanity, but she can regain sanity by being near a fire. Wolfgang is a circus strongman who is at his mightiest on a full stomach. His strength goes both ways, as he gets weaker when he's starving. He's also afraid of the dark, so he loses sanity faster while surrounded by darkness.

On my iPad, I downloaded a game called Horn. It was the App of the Week, so it was free. I must say, this is probably one of the most interesting games on the iPad. The graphics are amazing for an iPad game, plus it has a storyline and full voice acting. Horn is a action adventure fantasy game about a young apprentice blacksmith named Horn, who awakens to find his village in ruins and conquered by mechanical beings called Pygons. He learns that the Pygons are really humans and animals that have been cursed. Fortunately, Horn learns that certain crystals can turn Pygons back into their original forms. Thus he makes weapons out of the crystals and goes on a quest to fins the source of the curse. The gameplay is mostly two kinds: exploring and combat. You explore by tapping the screen to make Horn move where you want him to. There's plenty of hidden objects and collectibles, so be thorough in your search. Combat is very similar to that of Infinity Blade, except that you can maneuver all the way around your opponents. Just try to dodge attacks and hit them when their guard is down. What I really like about the combat is the ability to expose weak points. Every enemy has a weak point, you just have to find it and break through the armor to expose it. Weak points really make the fight go down faster.

One Piece: Pirate Warriors 2
Again, I think it's the best Musou game when it comes to anime franchises adopting the style. A little less characters than I was expecting, but the amount to choose from is a decent size. Best characters in the game are Eneru, Aokiji, Mihawk, Kuma and Kizaru. Out of those 5 it's definitely Eneru. My goodness his field clearing is ridiculous, although I'd probably say Kizaru and Mihawk are my favorites. I've yet to play as Akainu, Whitebeard, and Bleackbeard. Anyway, for a musou game it's good, but like the other musou games it's nothing game breaking. It's a good time killer.

Trying to prepare for Ultra, but man is it rough. I'm trying to partway from Cody, but that's my dude. The problem, though, is that he has no gimmicks. He's basically like a weaker version of Ryu, whereas he's just basic (you can't get anymore basic than Cody). He has no wake-up game, nor does he have a way to keep the pressure off of him. In Ultra, he's getting nothing, but I still can't help, but want to play as my dude. In the meantime I'm also playing Ryu, but he's also getting nothing in particular that I care for. Dudley on the other hand is getting buffed and he's my main. Fun guy to use, and he's kinda like Cody, but have more. So yeah, I'm hoping I'll be using him forever, at least until another Capcom fighter comes out.

Edit:

Scratch that. Instead of Ryu, gonna be using Guy. He's also one of my mainstay characters, perhaps even more than Cody. Can't just up and abandon my dudes even though they have bad match-ups against the characters my brother-in-law uses.

Decided to boot up Final Fantasy VII. It's the first time I'm replaying this since I started studying Japanese, and I never realized how many of the background signs were relevant. Like "Girls Girls Girls" over the brothel or "Men Men Men" over the gym. :D

Edit: Oh geez, it says "punishment" above the basement in Corneo's mansion. XD XD

I've gone on to finish Saints Row 3, Tropical Freeze, and One Piece: Romance Dawn, but I've shelved Final Fantasy XIII indefinitely.

I've been on chapter seven for what feels like an eternity, so I've decided to put it down and pick it up some other time.
Maybe then, I'll try to finish it.

Right now, I've started Heavy Rain and The Last of Us: Left Behind.

Dark Souls II is such a fantastic game. I waited for the PC port and From Software at least did a better job with it than the first game. I'm taking my time and going in blind without looking anything up.

I've been playing a lot of games over the past few weeks. Games like Castle Doombad, The Walking Dead, World of Goo, Team Fortress 2, Primal Carnage, Alien vs. Predator, Serious Sam, Ghost Master, and Return to Castle Wolfenstein. However, today I'm going to talk about one game that I've been playing a lot recently: Don't Starve.

I have been playing as four characters in Don't Starve: Wilson, Willow, Wolfgang, and Webber. Webber's the newest one I unlocked by finding his skull on a spider and burying it in an open grave. He's a kid that was swallowed whole by a spider, but survived and now uses the spider as a living bodysuit. Because of this, spiders are friendly towards Webber, while normally friendly creatures like pigmen attack him on sight. He can also eat poisonous foods with no ill effects.

As Wilson, I've found the portal to Adventure Mode and it's been kicking my butt. In Adventure Mode you start off in one of several scenarios and you must find all the artifacts to create a portal to the next scenario. On top of all that you have too survive as always. What makes it tough is that each scenario has something that makes it easy to die. Three scenarios put you in Winter, where you have to keep yourself from freezing to death. My favorite scenario (because it takes place in Spring) places you on a series of islands that require you to use sanity sapping wormholes to travel between them. Problem is, there are not many sanity inducing items in this scenario. The swampy environment that houses hostile creatures doesn't help either.

As Willow, I've been able to keep myself sane with little effort, as she regains sanity from being near fire. I have plenty of food, but now I need to keep it from spoiling quickly. I should probably find supplies so I can craft an ice box.

As Wolfgang, I haven't played as him that much, so I got nothing to say about him.

While things are going good in Don't Starve, I haven't encountered any of the giant creatures that I've heard about. The worst thing that randomly came after me were a pack of hounds, which aren't hard to defeat. I bet if I play long enough, I will find a mighty beast like a Deerclops, or a Bearger, or a Treeguard. I'll most likely die fighting them, but it will definitely be a better death than dying by starvation or freezing.

Been watching some vids about the glitches on the old Pokemon games, & wanted to try one(Mew glitch), so I started over on my Blue version. So far I've only just beat Brock & my team so far:

Squirtle
Pikachu
Ratata
Pidgey
Metapod

Feels good to play my old game again after so long. c:

Saints Row the Third
Being letdown by The Amazing Spider-Man 2 somehow pushed me to play this game again, it put me in the mood, and I'm having fun

Okay, so I found out that Sailor Moon had meet and greets at Universal Studios back in May. It would have been so cool if we had that at the turn of the century. I have gotten hugs from a Sailor Moon and a Sailor Mars at a local con back in the 2010s and spent under $100 doing it, so I don't know if this is worth the splurge but I can see that these affluent geeky people are enjoying their Sailor Moon hugs.
The characters from Netflix's Mating Season apparently were born from the same deeps as the Warner Bros cartoon characters
