The "What'cha Been Playin'?" Thread

I got stuck on those bits too. Although I think I was able to beat Bane without turning off the machine. I did have to put it down for Deathstroke but the day after I beat him on the first try. Go figure.

I haven't been to this thread in a long time. In KH:BBS, Aqua's Story...I finally managed to clear Olympus Colisseum. The Boss Battle with Ice Colossus & Hades wasn't too difficult. Only now, I seem to be having trouble defeating Hercules at the "Beat The Urn" challenge for the Sonic Blade ability which I'll try and accomplish later.

My next area will be Deep Space and then on to Neverland.

SSF4: 2012
Nothing new, although I was going through another character crisis. Cody and Dudley have been the main characters I've been toying with, but even then I just keep on coming back to Cody because that's just my dude. It's like I found my identity in the game, but the problem with Cody is that compared other characters he's just average. Also, I was online yesterday. Played about 6 matches. Won 3 of them. I'm almost fed up with the fighting games at this point mostly because my internet is terrible and not exactly sure how to upgrade it either. I mean I have a wireless router, and the best thing I can think of at this point is to get a wired router and get an ethernet cable or something. It's frustrating trying to fight under so much lag (not to mention get taunt and can't do anything about it). So I'm guessing for the time being I'm gonna take a break away from the fighting games until I upgrade the internet.

Devil May Cry 3
It's been a long time since I've played this game, and it feels really good. I guess I've been neglecting to play it because I've been wanting new games to play before I go back to the games I've already played (and been busy playing SSF4), but none of the games that I generally don't play does much to hold my interest. I tried playing Max Payne 3 yesterday and I couldn't get into it at all. Anyway, I'm the 3rd stage, but I decided to keep replaying the 1st 2 levels before moving on just to get the majority of Dante's moveset so far. That intro is still so good btw.

On my iPad last week, I've been playing Worms 3, Big Action Mega Fight, Tank Nation, Pocket God: Ooga Jump, and Devil's Attorney.

Worms 3 is the first Worms game I've ever played. I've played knockoffs like Blastron and Eenies at War, but they don't hold a candle to the real deal. Since Worms 3 was on sale for $0.99, I thought I might as well buy it. It's pretty fun with it's crazy weapons and environments. From the simple bazooka to the explosive sheep bomb, there are many ways to hurt your opponents. I call my team of worms the Gator Bots and they wear Mountie hats and have high pitched cockney accents. The artificial intelligence is not that hard and can be straight up stupid. Thus, I am kicking the offline campaign's butt. The online multiplayer is pretty good. The online players are smart, but they can take forever to make their move.

Big Action Mega Fight (or BAMF) is a side scrolling beat 'em up that, despite its hand drawn animation, looks like it came out of the eighties. Now the eighties aesthetics don't wow me (mostly because I didn't even exist during the eighties), but I still find it enjoyable. The gameplay is unorthodox: instead of pushing virtual buttons like a typical game, I control my character by touching and swiping my screen. This justifies why it's on iPad, but it sometimes gets my moves wrong. They should really work on its controls. I also like how the game is completely done in hand drawn animation instead of using retro sprites or 3d graphics. It makes the game unique and I wonder what it would be like if the game was a cartoon.

Tank Nation is a turn based strategy game in which you customize a tank and use it to fight others in tank warfare. The gameplay is a mixture of Worms (in terms of movement) and Angry Birds (in terms of attacking). It's pretty good in terms of gameplay, but I don't see myself playing this for long as there is a lot of level grinding.

Pocket God: Ooga Jump got some updates. Now you can play as Nooby from the Pocket God comics and there's a new zombie island environment. I really enjoy the comics and I can't wait for the next issue.

Devil's Attorney is a turn based RPG in which you play as a young lawyer trying to prove his clients' innocence. It's normally $4.99, but it went free for a few days and I like free stuff. It's pretty tricky, but I'm getting the hang of it. In the court, you have to use your lawyer abilities and charm to bring your opponents' credibility to zero while keeping yours high. There's also bonus money if you win within a certain number of turns. Out of the court, you spend the money you gain from your cases to purchase furniture for you apartment which in turn gives you points to purchase more attorney skills. I've won four cases so far.

For Thanksgiving, I'm back at my parents' place and I brought the Xbox 360 games I bought on campus. I spent some time playing Rayman Legends, Dishonored, and Farcry 3.

I'm on the fifth world, Olympus Maximus, in Rayman Legends. I like the Ancient Greece aesthetic and how it adventures into the underworld. At one point in the first level, a giant hand reached out of the clouds and tried to zap me with lightning. What a Zeusbag!

Dishonored is pretty good. I just got my first supernatural power, blink. It lets me teleport a short distance away. I don't really like how the game gives you an option to kill enemies, but tells you it's better in the long run to not kill them. It makes me wonder what the point was to include a killing option in the first place.

I really like Farcry 3. I played Farcry 2 a while back, but it wasn't all that fun. This game is so much better. I like the stealthy option to sneak around and take out enemies, but I'm capable of getting in direct firefight against the pirates. I also like the foraging of plants and hunting of animals to gather supplies to craft things. Once I was hunting goats when some feral dogs came out of the blue and started preying on the goats. I was like "screw it" and chased after them with my machete. Another time, I was sneaking into a pirate outpost and a Komodo dragon crawled into the camp and I sat back and watched the pirates fight the big lizard. The Komodo dragon won! Then I killed it for its skin. I'm having way too much fun exploring the island and doing sidemissions to complete the story missions.

I was playing Assassin's Creed IV for a bit but I havent touched it in days due to some other stuff. Still I don't think there's a well made franchise that just does little for me like AC. They're well made and fun enough but the only one that ever had my full attention was AC 2, which isn't a shock since it was the only one they actually gave time to. Ever since it's been annual release after another and there hasn't been a big jump in gameplay since. It's why so many little things bug me, like being an assassin that can't use stealth effectively due to game mechanics( no crouch, hugging, and clunky movement when not parkouring ) and visuals( seriously it's obvious you're an assassin when you dress like part ghost ) or the fighting being so clunky and slow. Coming off Batman, which while Origins had problems, the fighting is always fun and it's the same concept only much much quicker and intuitive. That or maybe I get hit in AC since I get bored mid fight.

Also drop the animus garbage. Even AC2 bugged me with the stupid present day stuff that is in all the games. It's not cool it's not fun and it just takes me out of the story...literally! I don't really know why Ubisoft went in this direction and why they seem so stubborn about it. The first AC dropped major points for me since it was constantly taking you out of the part you did want to play. They kind of remedied that with AC 2 by making them less frequent but I would have taken it out completely. Playing AC 3 they for some reason went back to the AC1 formula of taking you out and it's one of the reasons I didn't like it as much either. It's like they're aware it's bad since they never market that part of the games...ever not even a little but they put themselves into a corner with going this direction in the first place. I think AC would be a more fun time if it followed this group through time rather than going back into it in fragments. Also all the weird data visuals just jars with the period stuff for me.

I beat Sonic: Lost World...only two days after I bought it. It was fun, and I liked some of the new gameplay additions, but it was really short.

Before I went back to my campus after Thanksgiving, I played some more Farcry 3, Rayman Legends, and started playing Hitman: Absolution on my Xbox 360.

I am kicking butt in Farcry 3! Now that I have a recurve bow, I can silently take out pirates from a distance. I enjoy seeing the pirates freak out when they can't figure out who's picking them off one-by-one. While I'm also good in a direct firefight, my weapons don't have a ton of ammo, so I'd rather be frugal and stealthy. One highlight was when I came upon a pack of Komodo dragons that wanted me for dinner. I had my assault rifle, my bow, and my machete with me. I ran out of ammo for my rifle and had to rely on my bow. My bow is more for distance, but I managed to hit the dragons at close range; one of them I hit right in the mouth! Afterwards, I used their skins to make more holsters and bags to carry my stuff. Now I can carry three weapons and more grenades.

I beat the story mode of Rayman Legends. The fifth world, Olympus Maximus, is my second favorite world after Fiesta de los Muertos. Some of the world's levels contain swarms of round furry creatures with sharp teeth. I like how their eyes change color depending on the situation: they're white when neutral, red when they see me, and blue when they're hit with a bright light (bright lights kill them). The boss of Olympus Maximus is a giant swarm of black clouds that needed most of them knocked out to be defeated. Easier said then done, as that was the hardest boss in the game. Now the game's not completely beaten. I've only rescued 426 out of 700 Teensies, I haven't unlocked all the Back to Origins levels, and I didn't even unlock the bonus world yet. Plus there's the challenge maps that allow me to compete with other people (or rather, their ghosts). Yep this game is far from over.

I'm a big fan of Hitman. I've played Hitman 2 and Hitman: Blood Money, but I'm having a blast playing Hitman: Absolution. My favorite thing about this game is that it's not so nerve wrackingly hard and I don't need to look at a walkthrough to beat it. This new feature, called instinct, allows me to get hints and clues if I want them, and boy do I want them. There's still a lot of trial and error, but that I don't mind. The stealth is much better than the previous games and the disguises work better. What's interesting is that the disguises fool those who aren't familair with the disguise, but those who are are more suspicious. For example, if you dress as a gardener, the security guards won't bat an eye, but other gardeners can see through your disguise if you're not careful. I did a few missions and barely got noticed. Restarting at a checkpoint whenever I messed up also helps.

"Biff and Baff - Rolling". I've been playing this for hours.

After getting my assed kicked by The Adventure of Link (GBA port) I picked up the original Zelda when it was discounted on the eShop for the 3DS and have been working through that. The scope of that game is still pretty impressive for an 8-bit adventure game but it's not as thrilling as playing through even Link to the Past much less Ocarina of Time. I've completed 5 temples and actually beat 4 of them before realizing the VC on the 3DS had save states which is nice to have.

I picked up Xenoblade Chronicles the other day and played about 10 minutes of it so far. I like the battle system. I look forward to playing more.

Before those I trugged through the Wii and 360 versions of Nickelodeon's TMNT. The Wii is less graphically impressive than the Gamecube games and plays pretty badly. The 360 version plays a bit better and certainly looks better but is still tremendously underwhelming and boring.

I've never really be a fan of FPS war games. I find them all to be pretty much the same thing over and over, just with fancier graphics and different weapons. But my brother got an Xbox One recently, and the only game he has right now is Call of Duty: Ghosts. Since it actually offers offline co-op, I've been playing that with him lately. We don't play online, but just pick a map, turn on the enemy bots, and run around together having fun. Not enough games these days seem to offer that kind of old fashioned two player-type mode. This will be a suitable time filler while we wait in the hopes that Valve will make a third Left 4 Dead.

Metroid Prime: Finally found all twelve of those mandatory Chozo Artifacts, and about to head back to the area where you fight Meta-Ridley.

Also today I managed to finish New Super Mario Bros. (DS).
I didn't get into worlds 4 and 7, but it seems like the game was okay with that.

I've been playing a fresh "FemShep" starting with the original Mass Effect. It's a good game, but I didn't quite realize just how much Mass Effect 2 improved things until I really got into this one. I'm not sure what's more vexing, driving the Mako or the loading times I have to endure when I go about sidequesting. These suck up so much time. I totally get what they were going for and it's cool in principle, but man. When I'm exploring the galaxy and feeling like it's a chore, something's wrong. Props to Bioware for addressing the matter in the later installments!

Playing Valkyrie Profile Lenneth on my PSP, currently on cycle seven in hard mode and I'm on my way to getting the A ending. Just got Loki's betrayal cut scene so i'm doing everything right.

Also playing Pandora's Tower for Wii, only on the second tower right now. The game so far reminds me of Zelda mixed with Castlevainia and a little shadow of the Colossus for good measure. So far I'm liking it.

I haven't been able to put down Pokémon X since I purchased it (the release day). I look forward to getting Rayman Legends for Wii U, so that I'll finally have something else to play for the first time in a few months.

Lately I've been playing:

BioShock Infinite- Finally got the point where you meet Elizabeth. She's a fun character and I love how she's been interacting with the environments.

Fable III- I don't know about you guys, but I've been digging this game.

Final Fantasy IX- it's the PSOne Classics re-release and I've been playing it on my PSP.
I'm almost at the end of disc three, and, from what I can gather, I'm painstakingly close to the end of the game.

And also, I'm looking at starting Ratchet & Clank Future: A Crack in Time, No More Heroes 2, and my second playthrough of Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow.
At some point.

I've been playing a lot of games this Winter break. Today and last week, I played...

Farcry 3: I've done so much because this game is so much fun. I hunted many animals to craft more holsters and backpacks. Now I can carry four weapons and a lot of ammo so I can last much longer in a firefight. I have several herb recipes that give me an edge when I use them, such as sensing animals and pirates or making me fireproof. Most of the pirate strongholds have been cleared out by me; usually they don't even see me. On top of that, the island is gorgeous. I love standing on cliffs and taking in the view.

Hitman Absolution: This game loves to encourage creative executions. Sure you can up and shoot your target, but why not formulate a complex scheme to make their death look like an accident? One of my favorite accident executions was to sabotage a gas pump and have it leak over a fireworks display. When the target goes to take a smoke and drops his cigarette, BOOM! Another one of my favorites wasn't an execution, but I subdued a target by dressing as a barber and knocking him out when he came to get his haircut. The game even gives you hints at what kinds of executions you can do on a mission. The game also calculates a score based on what you do to execute your targets, how many times you've been spotted, and how many civilians you kill. The highest scores require not to be spotted and to kill only your targets. Regardless, being spotted and/or killing civilians don't have any consequences on the story, but I choose to be stealthy and only kill my targets out of respect.

Dishonored: I haven't played this one much, but I like the powers you can acquire. So far I have blink (which lets me teleport), dark vision (allows me to see enemies through objects and walls), and possession (allows me to possess animals like rats and dogs). Since I'm doing a no-kill run, I'm stuck to using stealth and nonlethal weapons like my sleep darts. The less kills you accumulate, the easier the game gets in the long run and happier the ending will be. I don't like the guilt based gameplay that this game employs.

Blur: This is my favorite racing game. It uses actual car models, but also has power-ups like the kart games. It's an excellent blend. Playing by myself can be fun, but I have the most fun while playing with others. I beat my brother several times today. Sometimes I wouldn't get first, but I still beat him and that makes up for it. He used to be good at Blur, but he hasn't played in months, so he's a little rusty.

NCAA Football 12: I used to be terrible at football games that weren't street football or Blitz: The League. Then I started playing Madden 13 with my friend and I started to get better. It helps that I know how most of football works. I played NCAA with my brother today. We played as our respective universities. At first I was winning, but then he tied and he ended up beating me 21-35. That's better than I did when I was a kid. I'm going to play him again later this week. I may not win, but I still have fun with my brother.

Rayman Legends: Now that I've beat the story, I'm trying to rescue enough Teensies to unlock the bonus world. The challenge maps are also pretty fun. I wish this game had online multiplayer because it's not easy getting three other friends together to play this game with me. We'll probably be uncoordinated, but as long as we're enjoying it, I don't care.

I just played unlicensed NES/SNES games: first with Hong Kong 97 (Super Famicom, Happy Software, Japan, 1995) and just finished Dian Shi Ma Li (Famicom, "Namco Corporation", Taiwan, 1989).
HONG KONG 97: I just laughed at the part where Deng Xiaoping's face appears in the game... (if the intro doesn't count).

Today marks the 15th Year Anniversary of ThunderCats (2011). While I find it unfortunate that the show was canceled before it had a chance to finish its story, I am glad that the show's art director was willing to give fans closure via a podcast interview.
Okay, so I found out that Sailor Moon had meet and greets at Universal Studios back in May. It would have been so cool if we had that at the turn of the century. I have gotten hugs from a Sailor Moon and a Sailor Mars at a local con back in the 2010s and spent under $100 doing it, so I don't know if this is worth the splurge but I can see that these affluent geeky people are enjoying their Sailor Moon hugs.
The characters from Netflix's Mating Season apparently were born from the same deeps as the Warner Bros cartoon characters
