TMNT Episode 4.08: All Hallows' Thieves
Original Air Date: October 29, 2005
Written by: Gavin Hignight

Another one from the Tales of TMNT gallery, as we grow ever closer to remaking the entire series. It's Halloween; were this anything other than a saturday morning cartoon, there would be debauchery on this streets; here, it's just people in costumes. In the grand tradition of "monster" cartoons, this is the only opportunity (aside from cosplay day at the comic book store) the turtles have to blend in and not be considered aliens. However, there's no cops in Beauty and the Beast costumes or fiancees-turned-werewolves here: just goblins, living hindu idols, and the King of Thieves (no, not Gambit, the other one).

I was gonna complain about how rushed the final fight with the idol monster felt, but then I read the synopsis of the original story and it turns out the original version was even shorter than that. So guess they did try to lenghten things out.

This story felt like one of those Real Ghostbusters episodes. Probably the closest I'll ever get to seeing the two properties crossover.

Really faithful to the original story, with one oddity - why did they sub Mikey for Donny as the turtle that investigates the alarm? Otherwise, really fun story. The season, wandering as it may be, is getting back on track.

EDIT: no april fool's option in the poll?

This season seems to be more about the comicbook adaptions then the other seasons were. We almost have had more adaptions in the first half then we normally do in the first season. Not that I'm complaining, really i'm just pointing that out.

"All Hallow's Thieves"

Overall I'm happy with the way Season 4 is turning out so far. The quality is consistent with the previous 3 seasons, the only difference is that all the other seasons started off with a bang, and this season started off slowly. But of course it makes sense, as the TMNT just got back from their final battle with Shredder and need time to rest and heal before the next major arc begins.

We've gotten 3 excellent episodes in a row, "Dragon's Brew", "I Monster", and "Grudge Match", and today's ep is no exception.

One thing I've noticed about this show is that it's starting to get more episodic. I guess 4kids realized there were way too many multi-part episodes in Seasons 1 and 2, so Seasons 3 and 4 have much more single part episodes, yet they still have ongoing season arcs, which is great.

I'll comment on the episode more after it finishes airing.

Please don't tell me the theif guy is named Jonny.

That "Leo-o-Lantern" rocked.

I forgot that April actually had an antique store to keep up.

Pretty good episode. But was that an ad for Bad Day at the end? I hope so I have been waiting for that episode.

Um... *shrugs* Underwhelmed, again, but I missed half of it.

Then again, I'm still buzzed (no pun intended) from Saw II.

But this season has been underwhelming me. Meh.

Who wants to bet that the next episode is a cop-out ending?

"Either they get some of us, or they get all of us... Or the writers insert another deus ex machina..."

This episode had some really nice moments:

- How the heck can Leo slice off a guys mask without cutting his face? Ah...the wonders of a Ninja Turtle

- The hotel scenes were great. The TMNT readying their weapons to strike only to see an old lady open the door was gold. Not to mention the guy in his underwear who they see later as Don says, "Cheap hotel".

- The goblins were unintentionally funny. Did the two goblins driving the truck crack anyone else up as much as me? Considering they're so small and can't even reach the pedals, I found that humourous.

- I enjoyed the way the TMNT destroyed the statue. Nice to see Raph act out a plan for once, and the part where Leo saved Raph from the subway car was pretty cool too.

- I also have to comment on the nice backrounds during the rooftop battle. The buildings were all colored in nice neon lights, as oppossed to the dark blue they're usually toned it. Those buildings looked really good, wonder if anyone else noticed it.

- Peter Laird and Kevin Eastman (creators of TMNT) had a cameo again in this episode! They were the two cops at the end in case anyone didn't notice. Eastman is the cop with the long dark hair and Peter Laird was the grey-haired cop.

I have to applaud 4kids for airing the holiday episodes in times for the holidays. Remember last year how the Christmas episode actually aired ON Christmas, since Dec.25th was a Saturday last year?

And today's Oct. 29th, and we have a Halloween episode just before Halloween. Great scheduling to get these episodes aired in times for their respective holidays.

Maybe we'll get a Valentines Day episode about April and Casey next year.

It was cool the episode, too bad April and Casey didn't appeared at the end.

Is it just me or is Leo getting annoying? His angst was interesting at first, but now I want somebody to punch him.

Yeah, but that's so obvious that it won't pan out that way, that anyone who seriously believes they may kill off a couple of Turtles DESERVES to be disappointed. I felt the same way for JL's Hereafter. Exodus actually had a REAL oppotunity to do something far out and complex and chickened out. This won't be in the same ballpark.

I REALLY liked this episode and got a real Gremlins vibe from the goblins causing mayhem and driving trucks. This is also one of the few Ninja Turtles stories that I have the original comic for so props to that.

King of Thieves is so cheesy, I loved him. Ha, and Casey's crack about the Turtles ALWAYS wearing masks was funny as was Mikey's of the Statue being "bling".

If they keep adapting comic book stories like these I'll have no problem with the show. I was actually worried when they said this was going to be a "mutants and monsters" season that that meant they would have an ongoing plot about monsters mutating from the same source (kinda like Smallville's meteor freaks) but having all of the monster coming from different places and being based more on the comics is a good thing. Neat episode: ****.

I know this. Espically after Exodus, I know this. I know they're unlikely to kill any established charachters, and I wish they'd stop acting like they will.

Still, if I'm up, I'll watch. As I said, beats the pants off Loonatics.

you might get your wish, courtesy of Rafael:D

another cool ep, i can finally watch it on dvd now
looking forward to next ep: Bad Day (no dvd cheats for me)

as for Leo, as soon as the main story arc gets under way, he'll resolve his anger issues:mad: . For the moment he has no place to channel it...except in training. Leo needs to face the likes of Bishop, Hun, Stockman, and Karai if he's to find closure. The Foot have been under wraps all season. I know Karai is plotting against the Turtles, hopefully that will come to light soon. We only have 18 eps left of S4. Definitely more Elintean stories ahead, as well as a rematch w/ The Rat King.

btw April=Catwoman:nurse: thank you

and I liked Raph's pumpkin best (reminds of Onyx's madface logo)

Ah yes. April's catwoman costume was definitely nice eyecandy.

Casey and Raphael's jibes at each other about costumes and masks were funny. As was the Leolantern.

Speaking of Leo, still serious but all business as usual. Maybe a bit on the surly side, but one can't really expect him to do a 180 and go suddenly cheery. Ah well, as has been said already we still have most of the season to see him pull out of whatever funk he happens to be in.

You have no idea how many times I thought that when I saw the new Zorro movie last night... I think it takes an extremely well-trained swordsman to cut so delicately, but it's mainly a visual invention I think.

For some reason, I thought the King of Thieves was going to have some connection to April's uncle.

What an awful title. But despite my misgivings, it was actually an entertaining episode. Just good old-fashioned kicking butt and pushing monsters in front of subway trains.

Marc Darison is the Peter Laird cop now? Doesn't really suit the image... It was nice to see the Eastmen and Laird cops again though. And the kids in the TMNT costume.

For a holiday special, this episode was well done! :)

I loved the Leo-o-lantern and the gremlins causing havoc in the city.

The Eastman and Laird cops making an appearance in this episode was a huge plus. I really missed those guys from the first season!

The King of Thieves was corny but funny nontheless. The jabs the turtles made at his outfit during the ritual were hilarious in itself.

Anyone got a serious Goro vibe from the idol?

And I agree that April was really :nurse: with the catwoman outfit! :D

4 stars!

I certainly do. That's why the Christmas ep is the only one I haven't seen (grumble grumble...)

In contrast, I have no problem with this ep's schedualing. As with the comic, my favorite aspect is the TMNT's getting to wander around freely 'cause everyone assumes they're just wearing extra-cool costumes. Enjoy the break, boys. :)

I can't believe it! Almost 20 post and no one even mentioned Mike's "Whodini" shout-out.

Watched the live-action "Moana" today and felt nothing that special compared to the original 2016 film. In fact, I don't remember much from the first animated film, but I think they barely changed anything in the 2026 version
