With a disappointing/rage-inducing Upfront like this for 2012 being any indication, CN's days are numbered - no amount of parachuting around the truth can deny this..

Nah. The comedy trio of Adventure Time, Regular Show, and MAD will keep them afloat, DC Nation's gonna stay worth watching at least partially (no idea if Beware the Batman will be any good), and classic Looney Tunes and Cartoon Planet are giving their schedule some needed variety. Really, replace the live-action crap with some good anime series and it'd be hard to tell the difference between CN today and in the good old days.

And it's an unpopular opinion, but I look forward to Nick Cannon's sketch show. Just for Jeremy Shada, though. Jeremy's amazing.

Cartoon Network Upfront 2012: Geeking Out at the Upfront
I wrote about the show portion of the upfront because it was really cool this time.

Oh yeah!! I hope a video of that gets posted of the live orchestra, or cartoon network records the whole song to air on their channel on their 20th.

I wish Cartoon Network would scrap their "OH MY GOODNESS OUR AUDIENCE LOVES LIVE-ACTION" idea, but that music video with Jeremy Shada was not terrible. Some parts of it were genuinely amusing. I would prefer to watch Adventure Time any day, ("The Jiggler" aside) but as long as they do not go overboard and cram cartoon lovers' slots with this, I would not mind.

I just hope any success they gain with this will not inspire another Dark Age.

Unfortunately...Any success live-action gains (like Level Up has) WILL do/inspire just that... Even with bright spots here or there, I'd brace myself...

As is, I'm only watching a few shows on here - like I would do as a kid - I was as cynical then as I am now.

The problem is that they act like Level Up is a much bigger succes than it actually is. It's doing decently, but they did everything possible in order to boost it, which makes it pretty bad really.

Nope. GR was pretty much the last time I'll ever get into any new cartoons (unless they make a 2nd GR series, but it's pretty likely that won't happen).

That, and the main reason why I can't seem to get into Young Justice or Green Lantern is because I've gotten a little tired of nearly 70% of the new shows (this includes channels outside of CN as well) coming out being DC or Marvel adaptions. Teen Titans and Static Shock are the only ones that I've really liked, and that's about it. As far as Thundercats goes, I never grew up around the original series, so it's a little hard for me to get into that one also.

ThunderCats requires no appreciation for the source material. I did not care for the original series at all but am quite enjoying the reboot.

While I agree with you ratings-wise for the comedy trio, I think that new additions to the comedy shows would be welcomed. But people tend to write-off things such as this due to CN's past failures in comedy (TPSz, SMFA, Robotomy, granted the latter wasn't bad, I actually have no idea why the cancelled it).

Heck, I still think CN could pick up some of those shorts from Cartoonstitute (Danger Planet, 3 Dog Band, Manny and Khan)

You love Generator Rex, there's no reason you wouldn't enjoy Young Justice or Green Lantern. You should give both of them a shot sometime, not write them off just because they're adaptations. Just saying.


And what Sketch said about Thundercats is true too, you don't have to watch the original to enjoy it. I like it, it's just not as spectacular as it could be.

I appreciate your guys' suggestions, I really do. I just don't feel like getting into anything new anymore in terms of cartoons. Sure, I'll go back through my DVD's and iTunes downloads to watch the ones that I really like. I just feel like I'm just losing interest... and I seriously don't see how that's a problem.

Well, if there's any good news with the Nick Cannon show, maybe it might encourage Nick to bring back All That?

No! Last time we had the show brought back, it became less remembered than any of Schneider's other comedies.

As for the Upfront, I'm hoping that the Nick Cannon series doesn't last long. It might be funnier than Disney's 'So Random' but may not sit well with me as well.

As much as I hate to admit, I did kinda laugh at "YOUR SHOES DON'T MATCH YOUR PURSE!" But yeah, this show seems like something better suited for Nick or Disney than Cartoon Network.

Even with any good they still might have - Seriously, the returns of Almost Naked Animals, Scared Squirrel, Sidekick, Casper's Scare School, Johnny Test and Hero: 108, for example, don't inspire greatness/confidence, considering how negatively most people think of these shows, now does it? I'm sure some will disagree and that I've been reading only negative comments on these shows, but the backlash is still present.

Not to mention, they're actually and noticeably besting Disney and Nick (and for good reasons, which is deserved), so why imitate them, anyway (with more live-action that makes this regime look bad by ignoring good cartoons that need the support, instead of returning shows that aren't received well and at worst, come off as a crutch to do actual work to entertain.)?

Maybe if they got more original action fare and actually supported it instead of clinging to something a lot of people don't like (or is just considered "old hat") like Ben 10 so much...

Then again - I'm only on this channel when Young Justice, Green Lantern, Thundercats, Regular Show, Gumball, and Adventure Time are on anyway - but they'll have to end eventually, and I'll have to move on for better or worse. That's life.

What annoys me about this is that most of those were deathslotted and have been off the lineup for a bit now. Garfield has done good on Saturdays and I really did enjoy that show a lot, but that wasn't renewed, but shows we haven't seen in a year or two.... Casper's Scare School and Hero: 108, were renewed.
