This is the talkback thread for Toon Zone Podcast Episode 4: Jerry Beck Part 1.

The Episode Itself

This sure did come together a lot faster than the last episode, inspite of some technical difficulties during the non-interview bits (go Skype!) Meanwhile, I felt that we could have talked to Jerry for hours and still have only scratched the surface. I mean, as it stands, we're breaking that interview up into two parts, and the fact is I can't wait to have him back on for atleast another 2.

Yeah, the Jerry Beck interview was very interesting to listen to. I say he should go for it and start up another company to import all sorts of foreign animation. :)

I'm surprised you guys didn't mention how the new Goof Troop/Quack Pack DVDs only contain 3 episodes each; that's quite the controversy on the Disney Board. Unless such comments got cut out for time or something.

Quick question, who's Jerry Beck?. I've heard the name before but I don't know much about him

He's the animation historian behind several books and (partly) cartoonbrew.com.

Nice interview. Very informative and interesting.

And I wonder what user asked what he thought about the new Pink Panther Movie Trailer ;) :p

As a representative of multiple other Teen Titans forums, I feel I should point out that the persons conducting this podcast were apparently misinformed about the subject matter.

It's obvious at least one of the people discussing Teen Titans wasn't too big on catching episodes anyway, but when one of the men in the discussion conjectured that the show's staff writers were okay with TT ending and and are "sleepwalking through" season five, I couldn't help but think that he had no idea what he was talking about.

Season five is only getting warmed up, and the episodes they have coming up are going to be absolutely phenomenal. Additionally, the Teen Titans writing staff has reported many times that they have TONS of ideas for this series and wish to continue writing for the show for season six and maybe even beyond. In fact, correspondence has been received from people in many aspects of the show's production, and they all are very disappointed in the cancellation.

So to state something so blatantly false was merely bad speculation with no real hint to research at all. I know this stuff simply from visiting a few trustworthy web forums every day; these guys should know their topics as well before they go on Podcast to discuss them.
I enjoyed the podcast, but please, check these things out before you report on them. The show is far from burning out. Thanks!

Karl's opinion of the writing on season five is just that, and it was framed in the podcast clearly as an opinion. If you disagree, that's fine, but it wasn't a reporting error.

I'm sure there are many people who work on the show who are (like me) disappointed at its cancellation. But that has nothing to do with whether Karl thinks they're running out of ideas.

Is it possible to get mp3s of the music that plays inbetween segments? Especially the ending theme (not king kong!).

Actually in part of the report one of them SAID they thought the writers were fine with the end of the series. That's simply not true and doesn't qualify as an opinion.

However the line prior was qualified with "it strikes me that" in other from my perview, theirfore, a opinion. At the very least, my intension wasn't to speak on their behalf.

I understand. It was probably a viewpoint more than anything else.

I suppose I am just troubled that it as said is all, because it is not true. :( The staff is actually very disappointed about the cancellation and the fans are writing letters left and right trying to save the show. If people thought the staff was tired of the show they might get the wrong idea about what's going on and might not bother to assist.

Well, I stick by my main point, which was really more like it seems better to end it now than keep dragging it out. The new season, to be frank, has been very underwhelming, so barring a TT Arc on Starfire (the last of cast to get proper arc, and something I doubt they'd do considering the direction this season has been headed,) I don't see the point in drawing it out - the made sense at 4 seasons. Unless it could some how be doubled to 8 and therefore justify the current weak arc with stuff that matched or bested Terra, Red X and Trigon, I don't get why people would want more beyond blind fan devotion. Personally, when a show starts to bite, I'd rather see get put out to pasture than pull a Simpsons-like slow, painful-to-watch death.

Season Five has gotten off to a rocky start, and yes, it is not my favorite season, but I do not think the writers are running dry--they simply tried an idea that did not work. Season Three was rather unmemorable to a lot of people but the show kept going. The writers are brave enough to try out new ideas and when one doesn't work, better luck next time. I am looking forward to the rest of the season because there are many promising episodes left and even if the season doesn't stack up to my expectations I will have many good points to look back upon. "Lightspeed" last night was simply brilliant and I have heard maybe two bad reviews on it.

hmmm I have to check this out.

If you guys would like me to air these on Toon Radio, tell me. It would be a great way to preview each episode before downloading them.

Sorry to bump this but what's with the holdup for Episode 5? I hope the podcast didnt come to an abrupt end

There is going to be an episode 5 later this month. It's just that the News Staff haven't been able to find a proper date for everyone to gather. (With Xmas and New Year breaks and all)

Cartoon Network has really helped me cope with some dark times this year.
Starting to be active on the forums again since this is one of the few places I can have informed, good-faith discussion about cartoons.
The Voyo-exclusive Romanian dub of Garfield and Friends goes on with the second season now being relased. I was afraid they will forget about the show after only one season.

As someone who's Portuguese, it just bugs me again that we lost. I wanted Portugal to win this time because this is Ronaldo's last, but no, we think Ronaldo has devolved significantly, and we lost against Spain.
