"Toonami" News & Discussion Thread

They did say that, which makes it even less likely for them to get the original Sailor Moon. I could still see them getting Crystal, but not as a replacement for Bleach. If it wasn't for the bi-weekly release, maybe that could have been more of a possibility, but as is it, there wouldn't be enough episodes ready for them to air on a weekly basis and I couldn't see them premiering episodes weeks ahead of the Japanese version. Even with Space Dandy, I think that dub premiere only a day before it airs in Japan. Maybe Crystal could replace Naruto reruns once they finish airing them again since that should be sometime next year, but I don't see Crystal airing on the block before that.

Season 1 of Crystal is going to be wrapping up in June of next year give or take holiday breaks (again its biweekly, might not be factoring them in) so yeah the likelyhood of us seeing an english dub is September 2015 at the earliest...

Its so far off the table it doesn't matter.

The thing about Shana though is that there are two very different voice casts. The first season (which Geneon released) has the Ocean Group dubbing it. FUNimation, when they took over the license, decided to dub everything else in-house and not re-hire Ocean Group for financial reasons (not enough potential return on investment to make it worth paying more money to hire Ocean). The Shakugan no Shana movie and sequel seasons have a Texas-based cast. When the dub cast change was announced FUNimation took a lot of flak for it and the sequel seasons and the movie did not sell that well, though Shana has never been a popular franchise Stateside to begin with so I don't know if the voice cast change played a role in that. But I don't know if FUNimation wants to call attention to the fact that they did a recast.

IMO, the Texas-cast was better-directed than the Ocean cast, but that's a largely subjective opinion on my end.

I suppose they could run the movie first to see how well the material plays, as the movie is a compressed and re-animated recap of the first season (and actually a decent one at that), and the voices for the movie are the Texas-based cast. Then if the movie does well the two sequel seasons can be picked up.

Shana having two differnt casts shouldn't hold the series back from getting a Toonami run. It's true the switch is a little jarring when you finish the first season and jump right into the second, as is the case with any cast change, but you get used to it after awhile. I think most of the FUNi cast is superior to the Ocean cast anyway.

I agree that airing the movie would be a great way of testing the series out. But if they were to pick the series up, skipping right to the second season isn't a good idea since there are events from the first seasons second half that are referenced in the second season that are not in the movie.

I'd love Shana to have a Toonami run, but I'm obviously bias.

Also, could someone fill in for me and make the Bleach talkback thread for this Saturday? I'm not going to have time to do so myself.

The Batman image doesn't seem to work anymore...

EDIT: It works now. Yay!

The promo for DBZ: Cooler's Revenge used the old Majjin Buu arc and DBZ character promo music.

Ah, Pelican City, you have been missed.

Firstly, please take it with a grain of salt.

The Turner press site schedule for the next month mentions the premiere of Space Dandy season 2 on July 6, with no Bleach that night.

Current schedule for that night:
11:30 p.m. - Attack on Titan: Episode 1 (rerun? Huh) [TO YOU, IN 2000 YEARS: THE FALL OF SHIGANSHINA, PART 1]
12:00 a.m. - Space Dandy: Episode 13 (rerun) [EVEN VACUUM CLEANERS FALL IN LOVE, BABY]
12:30 a.m. - Space Dandy: Episode 14 [Season premiere?]
01:00 a.m. - Naruto: Shippuden [IMPOSSIBLE DREAM]
01:30 a.m. - One Piece
02:00 a.m. - Blue Exorcist [MASK]
02:30 a.m. - Black Lagoon
(and the rest of the regular stuff)

Hmm. That schedule seems fake. No Bleach? And why would Titan rerun?

To be honest, the double Space Dandy is something I'm expecting if season 2 is still on course to start that weekend. Remember, it won't be on this upcoming weekend because of Cooler's Revenge, so unless Dandy season 2 starts the second week of July, they'll have to double it up some week in June (or the first weekend in July) if they want to rerun all of season 1 beforehand. Also, if Toonami does air episode 13.5 of Attack on Titan (I'd rather they not, but we'll see), delaying Bleach an extra week would push it to end the same week as Attack on Titan.

But yeah, I don't see them rerunning episode 1 of Attack on Titan.

Yeah, I really can't see them airing the first episode of Attack on Titan again. I don't think that they would have aired even the first half of the series by that point and I imagine that Funimation would have the second half of the series ready for them to air too.

just to manage expectations- we will be announcing some minor stuff at Momocon, but we can't talk about anything bigger! Yet.

bigger? More hours (no)? More days (no)? New shows (the obvious one)? Guess we'll have to wait until the current ones start to wind down more.

*the closer we get to the Fall season the closer we get to Bleach ending; it's status/replacement possibilities post-end is kinda what I'm looking forward to the most (as long as it doesn't restart with Ep 1 while staying in it's current time slot)

While we wont get the bigger, the minor captures my curiosity and could be big in it's own way. It's Toonami after all. Been a while since we've had clyde clips, so just to speculate, could be something on that line. No show is close to finishing so I doubt schedule change. Maybe they're announcing TOM & Sara's baby ... yeah, I threw that one in there because.

I can't imagine they'd re-air the first episode of Attack on Titan so soon.

Double Dandy I'm willing to believe but it's curious they will pre-empt Bleach for it.

im still taking this grain of salt as alot of you are

It's still over a month away. The farther away schedules are from the current date, the more unstable they'll be.

Well I hate to say it but they might be rerunning the first 9 episodes of Attack on Titan so that the show lasts them until the end of the year.

We'll know soon enough.

Interesting that they put Bleach back on the schedule already.

If they had to pick a spot to rerun episodes, I would hope they would wait until episode 13. At least then they'd be breaking between arcs rather than disrupting the momentum of the first arc.

Okay, so I found out that Sailor Moon had meet and greets at Universal Studios back in May. It would have been so cool if we had that at the turn of the century. I have gotten hugs from a Sailor Moon and a Sailor Mars at a local con back in the 2010s and spent under $100 doing it, so I don't know if this is worth the splurge but I can see that these affluent geeky people are enjoying their Sailor Moon hugs.
The characters from Netflix's Mating Season apparently were born from the same deeps as the Warner Bros cartoon characters
