"Toonami" News & Discussion Thread

Yeah, I’ve seen it now. As far as I know, that’s the first time they’ve used clips of shows not on the current schedule.
I’m guessing they made it during the week of three schedules, when they couldn’t decide if they were airing Lazarus and Blue Exorcist or Superman and Ninja Kamui.

I wonder if we will see it on Toonami any faster, or if we are in for a yearish wait like we were for S2.
Nah, I'm sure the best scenario will be Netflix will pay more to have S3 exclusive for a yearish then Toonami will get it in 2028. But Toonami may have to wait closer to 2.

edit: turns out there was a fan art contest in July 2024 in anticipation of the anime and winners get their art featured hence the ones we see each episode. Plus, the creator draws art for some winners on social media and someone's demon fan art gets used in the manga for a demon! @Kitschensyngk

That page also confirms it being 12 episodes if you scroll down to the prizing section. So that mystery is settled.

I already mentioned it being 12 episodes.

6.84 on MAL :/ these dudes just aren't real ones SAD.
Two standout criticism I have seen from manga fans

1. CGI is at best, mediocre. They have a pretty realistic fanbase that understands it’s a miracle this series got an anime at all, but the cost cutting is still disappointing.

2. The anime is cutting a LOT of chapters. Which is fueling assumptions this will not be renewed and was just a quick cashgrab. Last weeks episode in particular had people wondering why the pigeon mixer was left in, while more significant chapters were omitted.

Honestly though, for a heavy CGI series, 6.8 isn’t terrible. If it can end on a high note, it might even be able to flip to a 7.

Think we'll get a promo night for Mortal Kombat II like we did for a few DC events in the past and air the animated DTV MK movies? Or is WB beyond caring about the block even as a cheap avenue for free promotion at this point?

Probably doesn't help that Rooster Fighter is obviously a lower priority than the collaborative efforts they do with Bushiroad and even Arc System Works. Not surprising they wouldn't exactly bring their A team for this one.

It’s just gonna be a quick promo for the new film. If they were doing anything more we would have needed a schedule update by now to reflect the change.

The viewers didn’t like the forced nights off for promotion anyway since they didn’t respect the blocks schedule.

From the front page of AnimeSuperhero.com:

"“My Adventures with Superman” Season 3 Coming to Toonami June 13 At Midnight (Toonami Schedule Update)"

My-Adventures-With-Superman-Season-3-promo-image.jpg

"My Adventures with Superman has already returned to Toonami for season 2 reruns this Spring. Now, Entertainment Weekly has reported that Adult Swim is picking up a third season of My Adventures with Superman for a midnight timeslot on Toonami. New episodes will begin June 13.

The new season is set to adapt part ofthe famous Death of Superman storyline from the comics, specifically focusing on the Reign of the Supermen aftermath of Superman’s battle with Doomsday. Later portions of the classic story arc featured a clone Superboy, the Kryptonian artifact the Eliminator, the African American Steel, and the cyborg Superman driven mad by personal tragedy.

The new season will set up a Green Lantern spinoff featuring Jessica Cruz called My Adventures with Green Lantern. While creators mentioned inspiration from Dragon Ball Z for Superman, Green Lantern is said to draw inspiration from other Toonami shows as well. Considering the creators of My Adventures with Superman love TOM2 era Dragon Ball Z, as seen in Android 18 clothes being used for Kara Zor-El’s civilian clothes, we might see some influence of Toonami sci-fi shows like Cowboy Bebop, Outlaw Star, Gundam, and Tenchi Muyo on Green Lantern."

Just as predicted. Looks like we will probably have a Rooster Fighter marathon night, but that would be the first marathon delay of the year so I can really complain. Now, when does Toonami make this official?

Anyway, is it just me, or does the promotional image for the season look a bit edgier? Feels like an actual Superman show rather than the Lois/Clark romcom the first two were. Maybe they are putting that AS freedom to use.

Judging by the plot, I feel sad that Robin or Nightwing won't be part of it.

Interesting quote from the Entertainment article

“He does, however, give a little taste of what's to come: "Our take on Superman is very obviously inspired by Dragon Ball Z, among other things; there's a lot of anime influence. Lantern is inspired by a very different part of the same Toonami block. It'll be really clear once we start dropping promos what part of the Toonami block inspired our Green Lantern show. We're not subtle, people."

Personally, I would be MORTIFIED to actually admit my project is shamelessly copying entry level anime, but I have learned the people behind these shows have no shame, that is what it is.

Anyway, what show do we think they are going to rip off for Green Lantern? Article also mentions it’s pretty far out production wise, so we won’t get the answer for awhile, but we can still speculate. I’d assume the context of “the same Toonami block” is the after school one from 25 years ago, and not the current lineup.

I would think a space opera like Outlaw Star as Green Lantern is the spacefaring hero.

I think it'd be funny if it was Sailor Moon.
Superman has already referenced Go! Princess Precure.

Is that Joan Cusack voicing Jessie in that Toy Story Papa John's commercial? If so, it sounds rough. Woundn't surprise me if it wasn't, though.
