"Toonami" News & Discussion Thread

So, after dozens of people telling the Toonami guys on Tumblr that "Hey, TV schedules are listing Thundercats as skipping the first two episodes", and the Toonami guys blowing everyone off like "DON'T TRUST TV SCHEDULES, WE'RE NOT SKIPPING ANYTHING!"...

They skipped the first two episodes anyways. It's the Bebop fiasco all over again.
I think Bebop skipping the way it did might have had to do with replacing GITS' hour. I recall GITS originally being scheduled to air episodes 20 and 21 that week before Inuyasha moved in, so the schedulers either messed up or were lazy and didn't alter the episode count for Bebop. But yeah, the Toonami crew needs to have much better communication with the scheduling department. If fans notice that the official Adult Swim schedule has something wrong about it, I don't think blowing those fans off and not bothering to look into it is the best option. It comes off as a bit ignorant on their part, especially when they've been wrong.

This caught my eye: Dragon Ball Z Kai, GT Removed from Nicktoons Schedule - News - Anime News Network

I wonder what it means, if anything for Toonami. DBZ's still their most requested show but also must be the most expensive anime to license, and also horribly overrun and awful to follow at once a week. I hope this doesn't mean Toonami's going to pick it up when there's so many new shows they could spend that money on. If it has to be on the block, I'd want it on after 3 AM since it is basically a rerun and who knows, maybe putting DBZ on at 4 AM would boost the ratings for the rest of later part of the night by a lot, but still, I'd rather it not happen.

Yeah, I don't really want Dragonball anything unless the block expands. That being said I can only image DBZ or something being a ridiculous ratings leead-in to Bleach if they got the 11 PM hour. Tho, better show choices would be better.

Even if the block does get an expansion, I really wouldn't want DBZ/Kai on the block. It's extremely overplayed, would be awful for a weekly block and they already have a ton of long-running shonen series on the block, or coming to it in the case of One Piece. At least two out of three of the shonen series are brand new, but even DBZ uncut wouldn't work like it does with Naruto since DBZ does have far more exposure than most of the other shows on the block. Not to mention they could use the money it costs to get DBZ to get other shows that aren't as expensive and could use more exposure. Though, I kind of like the idea of putting it in the later hours of the block to boost the ratings for that part, but they'd probably put it in the earlier hours to get more attention. Regardless, I doubt that DBZ Kai and GT leaving their schedule means anything. That happens with Nickelodeon and their schedule all the time and even if it is off their lineup for good, they'd probably still have the rights like Disney does with Shippuden.

Someone actually made a thread about this over at Toonami Faithful a few days ago. I'll just copy and paste my response from there:

I wouldn't necessarily be opposed to the idea of DBZ being on Toonami again; I still enjoy it, I know that. But there's no denying the fact that it's extremely overplayed, and could very easily bomb in the ratings. In addition, with One Piece on the lineup, the addition of DBZ would mean yet another spot locked into place for a couple years, which we don't need.

Besides, Kai has been a pretty big ratings grabber for Nicktoons, I don't think they'll give it up that easily, unless the rights were just flat out taken away.

Please no DBZ for Toonami. THe show is out there in plenty of other places if you want to see it and has been on TV for years before. I'd rather something else get a chance to shine and us not daring this back out yet again.

DBZ should only return if they can afford to have it rerun in a late slot like Bebop or Inuyasha. My main concern would be DBZ taking up an early slot that could be used for new shows. Toonami is not going to waste a late slot on a new show, unless its something like Tenchi Muyo GXP that was death slotted. It being DBZ, though, I have my doubts that it would be cheap enough to air that late. If any show has the potential to get decent ratings that late, though, it is DBZ. I would like to see more older/affordable shows in those rerun slots in general, as they can only reair the same handful of shows so many times.

Oh hey Brian, think you'll update the schedule in the opening post soon? :P

Why TV-14DSV when it was a TV-PG show? Is this just a middle finger to the people complaining about a show with some TV-Y7 episodes airing on AS?

That was the final promo using that template... :'(

My guess is that when the promo airs within the block on that night, it'll use the new template.

Why TV-14DSV when it was a TV-PG show?

Yeah, that's kinda weird, unless it's supposed to be a rating for all of Toonami itself?

Unless, was IGPX edited for TV in any way?

nah i dont think they will use the new look , im almost positive actually
