"Toonami" News & Discussion Thread

You know what? I would take Guilty Crow and like it. Even if I'd already seen the sub. Some people may not end up thinking it's the best thing since Dragon Box DBZ but it's a fairly decent show. And the music kicks ass.

Don't get me wrong, if it turns out to be Guilty Crown, I'll still watch it since I'm morbidly curious to hear how the dub will sound. Just saying I'd prefer the new show be Future Diary (which to me has a better soundtrack but eh).

...

I'm really starting to think it might be Toriko. I realize people here will probably moan and groan, but I see no reason to push up Samurai 7, unless it was somewhat of a bigger show...

I still doubt it especially since Toriko isn't what would really qualify as a "big" show. For one thing the anime is way to censored for it to make any sense to air it on AS(heck Funi would be better off pitching it to Nicktoons) and because it's so censored most of the fanbase doesn't even like the anime(which is why I'm kinda surprised its being dubbed at all especially with almost all the initial reactions to the announcement being negative). Wouldn't be the end of the world or anything if it was Toriko but the odds aren't in it's favor, and even doing what they did with One Piece and adding swearing up the wazoo wouldn't change the fact that the show is quite literally meant for little kids. Nothing wrong with that but it's skewing even younger than Kekkaishi did in terms of it's proper age group and I don't think that would help the ratings.

Plus as I mentioned before as long as it's a relatively new show and not a catalogue title, it makes perfect sense to put whatever it is before Samurai 7. A newer show has a larger chance at catching people's attention and S7, while new to the block is still a catalogue title so it's not really deterimental to it's ratings to push it back a half hour.

Well, since the show is being given the 12:30 slot, I'm expecting a pretty big show, maybe even another long shonen.

Honestly, I think Fairy Tail has a good shot.

Fairy Tail probably has the best chance out of the other long-running shonen series. It would also be a good idea to put on another lone-running fairly popular series before Bleach ends so that it has more of a chance to attract a stable audience. Although, I'm not sure if they'd do something like that just yet when Bleach has another couple of years left, but I think it would be better to do something like that well before the series ends. I've seen the first few episodes On Demand and I think that it could work. Having a light comedy/action series would be kind of refreshing, even though most of the humor I've seen so far doesn't do much for me and I actually like it more when there's more of a serious tone. Still, Fairy Tail joining the lineup would be pretty cool.

Samurai 7 doesn't need to get bumped later for a long shonen. Anyhthing that's newer especially something that isn't on DVD yet would be worth bumping it later for.

Well maybe as well throw out some last minute possibilities.

Tiger & Bunny (I can't not hope for it)
Panty & Stocking (however unlikely it may be)
Michiko and Hatchin
Future Diary
Steins;Gate
Black Lagoon
Darker than Black
Index
Sengoku Basara
Soul Eater
Guilty Crown
Gurren Lagann
Fafner
Heroic Age
Overman King Gainer
Zegapain
Flag
Gundam 00
Toward the Terra
Planetes

I still fully expect to be surprised.

I would not rule out Aniplex either. They have Blue Exorcist and Fate/ZERO, both of which are major titles. Either one of them has a shot though BE is on Neon Alley.

BE is somewhat possible but as F/Z hasn't even been announced for a dub yet (and it wouldn't put it past Aniplex to not dub it anytime soon if at all) that one's a definite no.

I hope it's Fairy Tail. The talkback threads for FT would be fun every week.

As of NYCC, FUNimation hadn't started dubbing on Michiko to Hatchin, so we won't be seeing that for a while.

Also, Planetes doesn't really have much if any action if I remember correctly. If they're going to go that route (which might not be the smartest idea), they should just get Space Brothers from Sentai and be able to hold a claim on dub premieres (also, if it somehow ended up a hit, it's a long-running series so it could support them for a while).

Jason DeMarco just tweeted this:

Didn't say it was new....MUAHAHAHAHA

It would've been better if the show was new, but I guess their budget still might not be big enough.

Dang, you beat me to it.

That's weird. Every other show seems to have the next episode listed... I guess we'll find out what's going on tomorrow...

It's probably because GitS would be airing episode 20 and 21 in that timeslot had it not been removed. I'm guessing it's just an error though.

Even if it's not new, it'd be great if it's something we haven't seen in a long time.

Instead of FLCL for the millionth time, maybe we can get something else that FUNi rescued, like Trigun (that aired during April Fools, remember?) or Samurai Champloo, as bla suggested.

Or maybe they can snatch up a last-minute Bandai deal before they close up shop (Eureka 7 turned out quite well). Outlaw Star, Gundam, or their multiple other shows would be nice to see again.

It won't be Samurai Champloo, because Jason DeMarco also said that the new show hasn't aired on Adult Swim or Toonami before.

Then how is it not new? What was the point of that earlier tweet?

Okay, so I found out that Sailor Moon had meet and greets at Universal Studios back in May. It would have been so cool if we had that at the turn of the century. I have gotten hugs from a Sailor Moon and a Sailor Mars at a local con back in the 2010s and spent under $100 doing it, so I don't know if this is worth the splurge but I can see that these affluent geeky people are enjoying their Sailor Moon hugs.
The characters from Netflix's Mating Season apparently were born from the same deeps as the Warner Bros cartoon characters
