Toonami's Tumblr says that Adult Swim doesn't have the rights to air the original Fullmetal Alchemist anymore.

That's not too surprising considering how long its been since they finished airing the original series. Plus, since they have Brotherhood, they probably don't think it would be worthwhile to get the rights back to air it for Toonami. Although, a part of me is disappointed since I liked the idea of airing the original FMA series after Brotherhood finished just to give the audience who may have not watched it back when it aired something different to watch and see the differences between the two series. I am curious about what they have planned for the block while Bleach is in reruns though.

Whatever they have planned for next month, I wouldn't get my hopes up for something really worth while. Especially after the lackluster addition of Tenchi Muyo GXP.

Yeah, while I still like to speculate what kind of new show they could add to the lineup or what they could do, GXP does remind me not to get hopes too high for some really good show.

Honestly, I should have set my expectations lower since they chose to rebuy the rights to Eureka 7. While it is a respected series at least compared to GXP, the fact of the matter is it bombed on AS during its initial run and it's not doing so hot right now either. Makes me wonder what slightly more expensive series they could have got had they not have got Eureka 7 and GXP. I honestly could have waited a bit longer if the combined prices of both shows could have potentially been spent on a show more worthy of tuning in for.

I think what Ishtar is trying to say is that if they didn't spend any money on Eureka Seven or Tenchi Muyo! GXP, they'd have more money to get better shows now.

I don't know if they had to buy the rights to Eureka 7 again, but either way, that probably should have been the point where I lowered my expectations for what they can get too. Even though I've heard generally more positive praise for the series, I don't see much appeal to it and before GXP came, Eureka 7 was my least favorite show on the lineup, or at least out of the shows that I watched since I only stay up until 3AM. It isn't anywhere near as bad as GXP, but I can't seem to get into it in part due to how they don't explain much about what is happening too often and most of the characters aren't that interesting. I wouldn't have mind if they waited a bit longer and saved the money used to get both shows, so that they could get better quality shows.

There are a ton of shows in Funimation's library that could be within their budget range and would fit on the block a lot better than GXP that I wish that they could have gone for instead. While maybe something will happen to make GXP more interesting/entertaining later on, I'm honestly questioning why they thought that this would be a good show for the block. I'm sure it was really cheap for them to get it, but since they've made it clear that whether the show is good enough for them is the first priority, I wonder why they thought that this was worth picking up. I wasn't a huge fan of Casshern Sins after the first couple of episodes, but it at least had an interesting premise and made me curious to see how the storyline turn out. Two episodes into GXP and I don't feel much of anything for it. Considering that they need shows that provide a good hook in the first couple of episodes in order to develop an audience, this makes me think that getting GXP wasn't the best choice. If they wanted a more light-hearted comedy series, then I'm pretty sure that they could have gotten something else from Funimation within their price range.

The main issue I have with GXP currently is that the show itself feels like it won't have much development for the characters nor will it have an actual plot besides the main character being goofy with girls. It's a darn shame because there are so many better(and most likely cheap) choices in Funimation's library like Sands of Destruction that deserves more attention.

While the next 8 weeks could be time to air a short series like Hellsing Ultimate or Black Rock Shooter, I'm wondering if, given the holidays are naturally going to have something of an impact on ratings, they decide to do a special event. Not a seasonal thing, TOM doesn't do those, but with Bandai's official closure imminent, I'm thinking they might want to do a "goodbye"/"thank you"/"Best of Bandai" series. Sort of like the April Fools night, they can air one episode of a classic series a week and throw in ads telling people this is their last chance to get the DVDs of these shows. Maybe they could also work in the movie night idea that earlier seemed unlikely but now they've indicated planning something of the sort. The event could go something like this:

December 1st - Gundam Wing
December 8th - Outlaw Star
December 15th - .HACK//sign
December 22nd - some sort of marathon (Big O season 1 maybe?)
December 29th - movie night (possible options: Sword of the Stranger, Jin-Roh, Escaflowne Movie, Endless Waltz, Char's Counterattack, Blue Sub No.6)
January 5th - S-cry-ed
January 12th - Code Geass
January 19th - IGPX

So I checked Adult Swim On Demand. Not only did they add Tenchi Muyo! GXP, they also finally started putting episodes of Titan and ThunderCats up.

I think it's presumed that they sold off IGPX to Bandai, who already held the home video rights anyways, so it could be an option in a theoretical Bandai event.

Bandai's IGPX DVDs have been out of print for years. I don't think Bandai has the rights anymore either.
