"Toonami" News & Discussion Thread

It looks like we'll be getting another show after GXP ends. If that new show isn't One Piece, then the line up really is going to be jammed unless they get an expansion.

Considering they didn't say it was One Piece, just "another show", it could very well be another show.

I suspect they may be waiting for an expansion before running One Piece. If not, they could wait until E7 ends later this year because that'll free up a slot.

IGPX might have been the other unnamed show mentioned at Momocon, but they either didn't know when all the needed paperwork would be finished at the time and/or weren't sure when to have it air. They probably decided that IGPX would be a good show to air on the debut night of TOM 5 and the new Absolution. One Piece could theoretically be GXP's planned replacement, which would mean a May 18th start date.

I hope that the show that replaces GXP will be good. Given the shows they're adding to the lineup, it does make me hope that they're getting an expansion. Having an extra hour by the time One Piece starts would be good.

While I don't mind IGPX airing at all since I never really saw the show in full and it would nice to revisit it, I would have been disappointed if that was GXP's replacement since I'd prefer something newer. I'm also going to guess the replacement isn't One Piece since it obviously would make made more sense for them to just say so, not to mention that when they first announced One Piece they said they weren't exactly sure when they'd be airing it.

So, the Toonami Tumblr answered a question I had in regards to the alteration on the one scene (which they had to reanimate a fight sequence on the last episode, due to nudity). Turns out the Toonami guys worked with the Production I.G. studio to redo the scene. Pretty cool, honestly. Always wondered if that was the case.

I noticed that Bebop's current run happens to end on April 20th, which is the week before TOM 5 and IGPX start. Maybe they'll give Bebop a break?

Well... that'd be nice but it sounds like they're going to just air it once a week instead of twice for now.

It would be a missed opportunity to bring back either FLCL, Big O Season 2, or even GITS. Aside from the brief break from August to October, Bebop has been on Toonami for most of its run since returning in May. Then again, they're biased for Bebop.

So the onair schedule updated and now shows until May 4th, but it IGPX is not shown on there yet. Also, it shows Thundercats starting over at episode 3 for some reason.

Coming April 27th:

- New TOM
- New Absolution
- New Look
- The return of IGPX!

While I'm happy that IGPX is coming back, this tidbit tempered my happiness a bit:

Also, for those Megas XLR fans out there wondering if this means we can bring back Megas…. we can’t, sorry. Simply put, it’s a very different animal, and the exact elements that made IGPX’s return possible are not in place for Megas.
:(

Anyway, I hope this gets someone to save the DVD season sets. This and Rurouni Kenshin were my to biggest mishaps in taking too long to buy before they went out print.

Looks like the tumblr account is going to go into a different direction because of the same questions+nonsense being asked over and over:Toonami

It was bound to happen eventually I suppose. ^^;

I'm surprised they put up with it as long as they did.

Also, this is definitely not a fact, but there seems to be a hint vibe coming from what they posted on the Tumblr today:

*One Piece Water 7 storyline GIF was used.: Toonami
*Old Zatch Bell Promo was used(first time they have posted something like this with the caption "'member?)":Toonami

Thinking about it, Zatch actually never finished its run on Toonami and where One Piece will be starting has been a debate topic. ...The Zatch part makes me a bit more curious since they did mention it was a highly requested show(this was back during the Fall) and...I doubt its actually pricey to get besides being in an awkward licensing state.

I've always been curious about Zatch Bell, so if they air it, I think I'd watch.

With that said, I hope they air the uncut version.

Now that I think about it, Zatch Bell never finished airing in the US, so later episodes would be all new.

Seems like a likely indicator. That was possibly the most likely spot anyway, and one of the most requested. I hope we'll be learning more soon.

Good. The flood of questions has been abused for way too long.

Also...really? They're getting Zatch Bell again? I really hope not and they're just posting old promos for nostalgia's sake.

I'd rather see ZB on Vortexx. One Piece was pushing it a bit towards the kiddy side, but Zatch Bell is going way too far.

I asked this in the Anime Forum and I never got a response.

How is Zatch Bell in an "awkward licensing state"? Doesn't Viz have it? What's to stop them from just giving it to any network so they can air it?

I'm not sure about the anime, but I know that the manga is in licensing limbo. I'm not 100% sure what happened, but it seems there was a problem between the manga's author and Shueisha, so Viz had to stop publishing the manga.

I'm not sure if this affects the anime, though.

I'm not actually sure about this myself. I guess this is one of those prime silly examples of "believing what you read around the forums before checking the facts" :p.

Okay, so I found out that Sailor Moon had meet and greets at Universal Studios back in May. It would have been so cool if we had that at the turn of the century. I have gotten hugs from a Sailor Moon and a Sailor Mars at a local con back in the 2010s and spent under $100 doing it, so I don't know if this is worth the splurge but I can see that these affluent geeky people are enjoying their Sailor Moon hugs.
The characters from Netflix's Mating Season apparently were born from the same deeps as the Warner Bros cartoon characters
