"Toonami" News & Discussion Thread

Expansion starting at 11:30pm? Yeah!!! Awesome. With an action/comedy cross, 11:30pm is really good for it. Not to say othershows have a comedy element, but something as new as this that's unfamiliar, it's great.

I look forward to 'Space Dandy' - I hope it'll be a dandy! (pun heavily intended) If it's not, then I'll probably space out. (yet, another pun)

So apparently the Toonami Tumblr edited out the exact air date, as well as the episode count. Seems like someone jumped the gun or something, but they still indicate it will premiere on Toonami before Japan, however.

I'm pretty excited about Space Dandy. Not only do we get a small expansion for it, but it's a simulcast airing with the dub premiering before the Japanese version. That is awesome. I'm probably one of the few people who haven't seen much of Watanabe's work. I've only seen a few episodes of Cowboy Bebop and none of Samurai Champloo, but I'll definitely check this out. It's a huge deal to get it on the block like this, so hopefully, it will do really well.

I'm also curious about what movies they'll air in December. I wouldn't mind seeing Trigun: Badlands or FMA Star of Milos. EVA 3.33 is a possibility and I'd be willing to check it out after watching the first two movies. I kind of liked the last two movies, but I'm still not really seeing the mass appeal the franchise has. As long as they don't air Bleach or Naruto movies, as I don't care for either series, I'd most likely be willing to check out whatever movies they choose to air.

Well, looks like that Japanese website did end up being something. Yet again, Toonami takes my expectations and blows them right out of the f**king water.

First, this is freaking awesome. Toonami is getting a dub premiere of an anime before the Japanese get the actual premiere. This has to show that Toonami has made somewhat of an impact since it's return.

Second, hell yeah expansion! This is what I was really hoping the big announcement in December would be for, and it's great that Toonami finally got some expansion. Also, for those curious, the last time anime aired before midnight on [as] was November 1, 2008, which was a Bleach-FMA power hour. It's good to see action shows begin to retake the PM hours.

As for the movies, I honestly didn't think they were gonna do them for all of December. That was the biggest surprise here. As for what the movies will be, EVA 3.33 is probably a given, seeing as it's dubbed. I would love to see Akira air, even if it's just once. I really, really wish that they'd air Conqueror of Shamballa, but I think that would probably go better if they were to air the original FMA before that, so Sacred Star of Milos instead.

I don't see any reason for "Conqueror of Shambala" to air, since it came from the first series which has no business airing again, so I'd have to say forget airing it at all and stick with Sacred Star of Milos to keep the series in line.

Akira would be a fun one to watch on [as]. EVA 3.33 I can see airing. They aired the first two so might as well air the last one just to get all 3 in.

I don't see much a reason to air any movie twice unless it had such a huge impact the first time (or they start it late enough to end by 6am). I think its safe to say you're not going to see repeat episodes/2nd-time airings air (unless the occasional Bleach break). Naruto for example I doubt we see from the start again, and I see no reason to. So airing a movie a 2nd time as early as midnight wouldn't do much for me, as it'd just take away from another new-to-Toonami movie or regular premier(-to-Toonami) episodes from airing.

Yeah, it's really cool. It does make me think that Toonami has come a long way since its revival nearly a year and a half ago.

I wouldn't mind if they did air Conqueror of Shamballa. I thought that it was pretty good when I first saw it, although that was a few years ago. Still, it wouldn't make too much sense to air it when they haven't aired the original FMA in a long time and Sacred Star of Milos is more recent, as well as connected to Brotherhood, so that would have a much better chance of airing than Conqueror of Shamballa. EVA 3.33 does seem pretty likely since they've aired the other two movies and premiering the dub of this movie could give them a chance to get higher ratings.

Yeah, Akira and CoS are really more like personally wants than what I think actually's gonna air. I could go without seeing CoS, but I really do want to see them air Akira. They could definitely make a *****in' promo for that. The only one that I'm relatively sure about is EVA 3.33, since it's dubbed and, despite how bad I think it is, Toonami aired the other two, so why not this one, too?

As Cartoon Network finishes purging what little action content remains on its network, Adult Swim doubles down and will run a series before it airs in Japan. Most interesting, and there's probably some irony too.

I hope Space Dandy is as good as its pedigree would suggest. The previewed theme song rubs me the wrong way, however. I hope that's not an indicator of the rest of the series.

Obviously it's not the biggest piece of news in all this, but specifically for Toonami, the fact that it's also finally getting that expansion we've been hoping for is really great news as well.

Oh man, this news has gotten me the most interested in Toonami ever since it's return on April 1st. I just hope this can lead to even more big shows for Toonami (Attack on Titan, Kill la Kill, Sailor Moon, etc).

Wow... I am READY to watch this!

I got lured into the promo thanks to the music. Felt very right for a space-themed show.

Are we doing a FLCL talkback for its upcoming Toonami run?

With Space Dandy kicking off the block in January, that means that Bleach will get an intro for the first time. I'm interested in seeing what the Bleach intro will be, but not nearly as excited as I am for Space Dandy!!!

Y'know, I feel that even though Bleach starts up after the Toonami launch intro, it should get its own series intro. The CN Toonami did that, and it'd only be another 10 seconds anyway, not 30 like back then. So I hope Space Dandy gets one, cause who knows if we'll see it get a second run. It's only a minor thing, but an intro for each show, even the one to start the block would be great.

Toonami Tumblr did say that the show at the start of the block gets to have its full intro aired. (I wonder what the shortened Bleach intro will be like as well.)

Geeze. This is really exciting news.

Reminder that the Toonami Tumblr is holding it's monthly Q&A tomorrow morning.

Hey everybody! Just a reminder that our monthly Toonami Tumblr Q&A session will be tomorrow from 11am until whenever we reach our daily tumblr post limit. Feel free to shoot us any questions, but before you do, please read our FAQ above, which answers some of the questions most commonly asked.

Remember- your question may end up being answered by Tom and Sara on the air in a week or two!

See you tomorrow.

Love, The Toonami Crew.

What happened to FLCL? I was looking forward to that.

Happy 15th anniversary to Secret Mountain Fort Awesome!

It should've ran for as many seasons and episodes as its post-predecessor Uncle Grandpa did.
I wish Imgur wasn't allowed on this forum until the time is right for a return since it's been unavailable in the UK since last September, so I don't see why people use links from the site for here when it's no longer available in the UK and I'm really angry that their parent company made this stupid decision.
Happy 45th anniversary, MTV.
MeTV Toons is a great channel when it comes to classic cartoons, but we know it can be way better. The Duck4Real (me!) elaborates on this in his latest YouTube vlog. Watch it!

WB has done so well with releasing the Paramount Popeye cartoons on home media that they should be chosen to distribute the long-delayed animated Popeye film that at various points was to be made by Sony and directed by Genndy Tartakovsky (who has a long association with WB sister property Cartoon Network).
