"Toonami" News & Discussion Thread

Chad Bonin has announced that the Toonami crew will be returning to MomoCon this year:

Toonami Returns To MomoCon

In the distant year 1997, one block was the hope for all mankind: Toonami launched, and redefined action-animation for America.

In 2013, the “Toonami Six” and Steve Blum (voice of TOM) made their first public group appearance at MomoCon. I was glad to host them, and with the help of the Toonami Faithful Podcast crew, we had an amazingly fun time.

It’s a new year. Black Lagoon and Blue Exorcist are on the horizon, and Naruto Shippuden, Bleach, One Piece, and Star Wars: Clone Wars are continuing to make Toonami premiere episodes. Space Dandy is making its world premiere on the block!

Seems about time to officially announce the return of the Toonami crew to Momocon! Much like last year, I’ll be your host with the Toonami Faithful Podcast. I’m sure we’ll collect questions from the people unable to make it, and I’d wager that Jason DeMarco has some news to drop there as well. We might not have Steve Blum, but we may just have another voice from the Absolution on hand.

So, give it some time, let it set in, let us figure out some specifics, and join us May 23-25 in Atlanta.

PS: My birthday is the 28th. All gifts will be accepted.

Is it weird that i think Toonami should get Highschool of the Dead on the block, like pronto? O.o

but im wrong about what/who dub it then i apologias

I like the show and I think it has some great action, but it has too much fanservice, so maybe.

Anyway, I'm excited for Black Lagoon! It's nice to see that they're trying to put the "adult" back in "[adult swim]".

High School of the Dead would get so much critism though. Sword Art Online gets a lot of trash talk for it's unnecessary fan service and it has nothing compared to HSotD. Seriously. Not to mention the reactions we would get from a certain bus scene in a late episode. I like the plot but even I must admit they went way too far. It's probably because the manga author is a hentai artist. I don't want it on the block personally.

For a sentai show, I agree that Persona 4 would be a nice possibility. It's a good show with fine amount of action. I would like to watch Girls und Panzer at some point so wouldn't mind seeing that either.

I actually haven't seen the P4 anime, but I'm currently playing Golden and loving it, so while I was initially indifferent to the possibility of a non-GuP Sentai Filmworks anime airing on the block (most of their shows, even good ones like Watamote and Outbreak Company, are generally more other genres than action), now I really want to see it (my brother's already seen it, and bought Golden for the gameplay).

As for the HSotD thing, most of the people here on ToonZone couldn't watch gigantic slugs attempt tentacle rape on a teenager, and I myself was cringing throughout Wanna Be the Strongest in the World's "lady wrestlers ear-splittingly screaming in pain while the camera unnecessarily aims at their (thankfully clothed) boobs and crotches" style of fanservice (not helped by the first four episodes, which were all I saw, being a poorly written mess whose half-hearted attempt at a moral just came off as mean-spirited, elitist, and just plain condescending), so the fetishized gore would just be torture for us. Besides, didn't I hear at some point that DeMarco shot it down (and if he did, anyone have a link?)?

While I like HOTD a lot (yes, I am a flaming hypocrite, so sue me), it is borderline softcore in spots so probably not.

Senti really doesn't have much to offer which is probably why Williams Street and them have no relationship at the moment.

That scene is all of thirty seconds. Of course, there's all the other fanservice in the series....

I hope Toonami doesn't air HotD, personally. Sounds really trashy.

I haven't seen High School of the Dead, but based on what I've heard about it, it doesn't sound like something I'd want to check out, so I'd prefer if Toonami didn't pick it up.

Adult Swim rejected Highschool of the Dead right before Toonami's revival, they even made a bump pointing that out (they also rejected Angel Beats! in the same bump). I don't think it's coming anytime soon.

Sentai / ADV still has these titles:
Fate / stay night
Elfen Lied
The Familiar of Zero
Dream Eater Merry
Battle Girls, Time Paradox
Sorcerous Stabber Orphen
Canaan
Daphne, In the Brilliant Blue
ArgentoSoma
XAM'd
Nadia - The Secret of Blue Water

S-CRY-ed (aired)

And if the licenses haven't expired, they might still have these:
RAhXePhON
Gilgamesh
Sorcerer Hunters
Rune Soldier

They also have these, but I have not seen them:
Sakura Wars (TV)
Mardock Scramble (Movies)
Kurokami The Animation
Infinite Ryvius
Infinite Stratos
Guin Saga
The Girl Who Leapt Through Space
Demon King Daimao
Queen's Blade: Rebellion (season 3)

Everything else has been relicensed fy FUNi or expired.

Doesn't Sentai also still have Needless? That's a title I could see on Toonami, though the levels of fanservice in it are rather absurd.

I'd rather they get the ufotable FSN once it gets licensed. DEEN/Stay Night is something that should've aired back in 2007.

Elfen Lied

From what I heard of Elfen Lied, I'd rather they not get it, ever.
The Familiar of Zero

Hell. ****ing. No.

Dream Eater Merry

Never saw it, but I guess it could work, going from the ANN page.

Battle Girls, Time Paradox

I wouldn't mind those, though others probably would.

Sorcerous Stabber Orphen

Looks good enough, but it may be too old and unknown for them to consider

I'd be down with this.

Daphne, In the Brilliant Blue
ArgentoSoma
XAM'd
Nadia - The Secret of Blue Water

Haven't seen these.

S-CRY-ed (aired)

Hell. ****ing. Yes.

I don't care if it bombed years ago, that didn't stop them from rerunning Eureka 7. And unlike E7, S-CRY-Ed is actually good.

RAhXePhON
Gilgamesh
Sorcerer Hunters
Rune Soldier

I wouldn't object to Rahxephon, and Rune Soldier sounds good. Sorcerer Hunter looks a bit Casshern Sins-like, and Rune Soldier looks kinda fanservice, but it can't be worse than SAO.

They also have these, but I have not seen them:
Sakura Wars (TV)

Would be interesting, though it seems like something that would've fit on weekday Toonami more.

Mardock Scramble (Movies)

Looks very interesting, and I loves me some Cyberpunk, but the incest tag on ANN has me worried.

Kurokami The Animation
Infinite Ryvius

Would be interesting.
Infinite Stratos

No.

Guin Saga

Doesn't the dub for this suck?

The Girl Who Leapt Through Space

Would be interesting

Demon King Daimao

It's a harem, so ehhhhhhh...
Queen's Blade: Rebellion (season 3)
It'd be hilarious, but NO.

Damn......

Today marks the 15th Year Anniversary of ThunderCats (2011). While I find it unfortunate that the show was canceled before it had a chance to finish its story, I am glad that the show's art director was willing to give fans closure via a podcast interview.
Okay, so I found out that Sailor Moon had meet and greets at Universal Studios back in May. It would have been so cool if we had that at the turn of the century. I have gotten hugs from a Sailor Moon and a Sailor Mars at a local con back in the 2010s and spent under $100 doing it, so I don't know if this is worth the splurge but I can see that these affluent geeky people are enjoying their Sailor Moon hugs.
The characters from Netflix's Mating Season apparently were born from the same deeps as the Warner Bros cartoon characters
