"Toonami" News & Discussion Thread

They need to dub the first two series (or at least Battle Tendency) before JoJo's can air on Toonami.

OK, from his recent interviews, Del Toro is clearly aiming the Pacific Rim series at kids, so it's not really an option for Toonami unless it ends up another Cartoon Network daytime bomb.

I'd guess The Hub goes for it now.

I don't know if I should post this or not, but another DC Nation short is going to be airing on July 27th at 2:30am, right before Beware the Batman. It's titled "Batman Beyond."

It's a re-run, but it's a nice treat considering that's when new-to-television episodes will start airing.

That's pretty cool. I like the Batman Beyond short, although it was really far too short and it left me wanting to see a full special or reboot for Batman Beyond.

That's pretty cool. Do you know how many shorts have aired during it so far?

Before this, just the "Batman 75" short on the night Beware the Batman premiered on Toonami.

Not really. I'd prefer if Viz did dub and Toonami did air Parts 1 and 2 first, but Part 3 has been released without Parts 1 and 2 having been released many times before. The OVA series and Viz's release of the manga (until Anime Expo) and now the new anime are all skipping Parts 1 and 2. Toonami hasn't exactly minded skipping episodes either. They've skipped episodes of Naruto and One Piece, and they started 16 episodes into Dragon Ball GT. And the shows all did fine in ratings, even though there were important plot events in the skipped episodes.

Well, a commercial for Gurren Lagann just aired. Its replacing Blue Exorcist.

WHOO! Awesome!

EDIT: Haha, ninja'd.

It's not Kill La Kill, but I'm fine with this as BE's replacement. I hope it gets the next pickup though and not Sword Art 2.

Wow so Gurren lagann starts Aug 16th.

After so many years of fans clamoring for Gurren Lagann to be on Toonami and/or Adult Swim, it finally happens. I figured with AoA having a relatively limited supply of dubbed action series and wanting to keep their spot on Toonami it would happen eventually, so I'm glad to see it confirmed as the next one.

Gainax's best and most fun work in the last ten years? Yep, it's a good pick. They can follow up with Magi and / or Kill la Kill later.

SAO 2...eh. I'd rather not think about that right now. It's not realistic it'll even be dubbed until 2015 anyhow.

Only saw one or two episodes of this show. Guess this'd be a good opportunity to finally check it out.

So, unless I'm mistaken, it looks like they're using the old Bandai masters for the Gurren Lagann footage. Gurren Lagann got a re-transfer to HD recently, though it's soft, it's better than what upscaling a 480i DigiBeta would produce...

EDIT: Okay, Demarco says they will be HD. That only leaves me to question what does the footage in that Q&A represent?

That's what I was just thinking. Don't get me wrong, I like the show and haven't watched it since its first run on what was the old "Sci Fi" channel so I'll tune in, but I'm sure Demarco is glad he'll finally stop hearing/reading people constantly demand it.

I remember checking this out when it aired on SyFy's Ani-Monday and liked most of what I saw. Didn't see all of it, but will definitely re-watch.

I was not expecting Gurren Lagann, but I'm okay with that. I've heard pretty good things about it, in that it's pretty entertaining, and I remember seeing a couple of episodes on SyFy's Ani-Monday block when I was waiting for Rave Master to air. I only remember seeing the last couple of episodes. Still, I'll check the series out and see how I feel about it after the first few episodes.

Okay, so I found out that Sailor Moon had meet and greets at Universal Studios back in May. It would have been so cool if we had that at the turn of the century. I have gotten hugs from a Sailor Moon and a Sailor Mars at a local con back in the 2010s and spent under $100 doing it, so I don't know if this is worth the splurge but I can see that these affluent geeky people are enjoying their Sailor Moon hugs.
The characters from Netflix's Mating Season apparently were born from the same deeps as the Warner Bros cartoon characters
