"Toonami" News & Discussion Thread

The only thing I'd look forward after 3:30 is Rick and Morty, but then I'd have to suffer through American Dad to get to it.

I don't see how this is supposed to get better ratings then Bebop, GiTS, IGPX, Samurai Jack, etc. At least Bebop was kinda new, HD and uncensored.

It costs them next to nothing to air, for one thing.

Considering that both Gurren Lagann and Deadman Wonderland are expected to end their runs simultaneously near the end of March, one has to hope they have something coming down the pipes to fill the void. At this point, I think Midnight-3am on Saturdays is where we are eventually heading, which is back to where Toonami was when it was revived back in 2012.

Well, to get technical in 2012, it aired till 6 AM, repeating at 3 AM.

Kill LA Kill gets the semi coveted 12:30 slot
This isn't news.

I still think that losing those hours is really bad. While there might not be a lot of people able to stay up for the whole block, there probably were people who woke up early on Sundays who could catch a bit of the end of the block.
*Raises Hand* I typically turn to the West Coast feed on DirecTv during that time since I'm an early riser.
Sigh, this is terrible news to catchup on -_-

You know somtimes deep down I wish anime never came to the States if it'll get this kind of treatment. Toyetic shows are fine but needs more then just comedy here. Sometimes I think the people here wants nothing but Looney Toons and the Simpsons as their primary tv anime.

Toonami gains and loses hours all the time, this is no different. Those USAnimated toons you mentioned aren't anime, unless you're going with the literal meaning of the term, which simply means "animation".

BTW, it's Looney Tunes, not 'Toons'.

Yes I mean the literal sense, and thanks for the correction on Looney Tunes.

While losing those hours is still pretty bad, although one could argue that losing the 11:30PM starting time is worse than the rerun hours, it isn't the end of the world. It isn't treatment so bad that it would have been better if anime didn't come to the U.S. That's just an over-reaction and I don't think that this conversation needs to go any further than this.

Here's a couple of pictures that could be used for Kill la Kill talkback images, if @BrianLeague wants to use one. Took these from the two openings for the show to highlight the rivalry that dominates much of it. Alternatively, this wallpaper has a good shot of Ryuko's face. Decisions decisions....

One for the rumormill, for those of you wishing JoJo's Bizarre Adventure could get dubbed and made Toonami-ready: Viz Media is now the "master merchandise licensee" for JoJo's Bizarre Adventure and with that bit of news comes an official English logo for the animated series. It is of note that last year's JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Stardust Crusaders test dub came from Warner Bros Japan while Warner Home Video distributes Viz Media products. Viz is poised to start (re)releasing the JoJo manga starting later this month, and in hardcover at that. More and more it's feeling like a matter of when for the animation.

I know some of us have been concerned about Toonami's recent shrinkage and are looking for some reassurance that the end is not nigh.

So I asked the man himself, Jason DeMarco. Here's the audio interview.

Thank you! I couldn't choose one, so I made three talkback images. Whoever makes the talkback threads can choose one to use.

My DirecTV shows that Toonami lost the 4AM hour.

You're late to the party. It was announced over a week ago that Toonami would be shrinking to 3 1/2 hours (12AM-3:30AM) going forward, which is as of tonight.

You know, like other people were saying, I like how the shorter line-up gives them more time for each show in the line-up promo.

Don't know if this is considered consolation or not - but with the exception of DBZK, for those who have the 2nd CN (west feed) - they can rewatch episodes without missing anything on the regular. The only instance where two Toonami shows would be on at once is Deadman Wonderland & DBZK

It turns out that Sword Art Online ll will be coming to Toonami on March 28.

Okay, so I found out that Sailor Moon had meet and greets at Universal Studios back in May. It would have been so cool if we had that at the turn of the century. I have gotten hugs from a Sailor Moon and a Sailor Mars at a local con back in the 2010s and spent under $100 doing it, so I don't know if this is worth the splurge but I can see that these affluent geeky people are enjoying their Sailor Moon hugs.
The characters from Netflix's Mating Season apparently were born from the same deeps as the Warner Bros cartoon characters
