Toonami Ratings

It's confirmed CW is going to Disney. No chance on Toonami.

And we can say that Disney not keeping TCW on CN or moving it to Adult Swim is a very bad decision given DXD's track record with action cartoons but they're stubborn like that. They believe if they throw a bunch of Marvel shows and Star Wars at their DXD audience that something will eventually get the channel into more homes rather than make even pockets of air-time to broadcast these potential hits on their main network.

Going by what Disney Channel regularly achieves in over night numbers they're insane not to play The Clone Wars around then on Disney Channel proper. It would very likely beat everything on Adult Swim between Midnight and 6AM except maybe Family Guy and American Dad.

Oh well.

I always see a lot of people opposed to Green Lantern on Toonami but the all adult cast and the mature handling of many of the stories make seem like a fine fit to me. I think most people are just put-off by the animation but apparently not so much the general public based on those ratings.

That's right. This yr DST is Mar 10-Nov 3 & always at 2a. Has the tumblr ever hinted at possible expansion to 11p? TOM saying 11p to 6a just doesn't sound as good as midnight to 6a. If TOONAMI were able to keep this up for the next 2 months it might open the door to expansion to Sun nights. Midnight to 2a sounds pretty good there. There's plenty of justification as Sat's ratings show. RC still does a good job holding up 12a but everything past 12:30a pretty much caves in. Does RC still have to air on Sun? I know it's departure from [as] roots, but things have changed. Sun is LN is one of the most competitive nights of the week now with Walking Dead staking claims in late Fall & early Spring, Game of Thrones carrying the torch from late Spring to summer, & True Blood still owning summer. There's just pockets of weakness there now throughout the yr. Wouldn't the RC premiere's be better served on Mon nights? [line]2[/line] In terms of programming TOONAMI/anime has a lot to offer in the genre's of swordxsorcery/dragons/vampires & last but not least zombies. I guess the key though is what to use for a lead? The Supernatural anime is certainly mainstream enough but it's also short. If it did well though I could see WB/Turner greenlighting production of more ep's. TNT certainly gets good use out of the past seasons.

I'm not sure if they hinted at it, but it could be possible, at least more so than getting another night. Toonami airing on Sunday nights does sound pretty cool, but I think that they would have to get a major boost in their budget to pull it off. Getting the 11PM hour might be a bit closer to their reach if the block continues to perform well.

I wouldn't mind Green Lantern airing on the block. I'm not sure if it would appeal to the general audience that usually watches Toonami and I don't think it would fit as well as Young Justice would, but I would be fine with the series airing on the block.

Really? It seems like a better fit than Young Justice to me, and would probably be a better choice if we don't want Toonami to just become Cartoon Network's leftovers. It got good ratings on Scifi if I recall correctly and it has similar visual appeal to FLCL.

I was talking about Green Lantern, not Gurren Lagann. That would fit the block pretty well based on the little I saw of it and what I've heard about it, but since it already had a TV run, I wouldn't be against another show taking a slot in the block instead.

Sorry. I was tired and misread for some reason.

It's a shame CW has seemingly come to an end on CN, but if CN really wants a SW series they just have to go to FOX because FOX has full rights usage for the chars in the OT. They can do whatever they want based solely on ANH & not pay Disney a dime. Disney can't stop them from doing something based on ESB & ROJ, but in those cases FOX will owe Disney a hefty %. When Disney purchased Lucasfilm, they got full rights for the chars in the PT & rights to use chars from the OT in future films. They don't have the right to remake/reboot the OT. They can't do that without FOX's permission. [line]2[/line] It's a similar & more complicated story with Marvel. FOX purchased more than just the film rights to X-Men & FF. They purchased tv rights to these chars as well. They did so with the intent to produce series for the FOX Family Channel at the time. They would later sell that channel & FOX Kids to Disney for an outrageous price but they never relinquished these rights. Even better FOX, knew at the time that these chars would cross boundary lines with other studios in the future. So they made sure the deal was structured to be as broad as possible. It's still unclear today just how many chars FOX has rights to under these two universes, but what is clear is that FOX intends to challenge Disney legally wherever Disney tries to block them. So again, CN just has to go to FOX to get a series produced based on the chars already presented in the FOX films for these two mega universes & not have to pay Disney a cent. FOX already intends to push Disney on inclusion of even more chars for their next X-Men & FF films. [line]2[/line] Which brings me to SW Detours. It's based on the OT chars & mainly ANH. Lucasfilm could not have begun production on it without FOX's permission which likely included royalties. Now that Lucasfilm is owned by Disney, I believe FOX can challenge Disney on it's distribution. If [as] wants it, I believe FOX can make it happen for them. The season finales for the MacFarlane shows on FOX this yr are all 1 hr long. I wouldn't put it past them to be either Marvel or SW related within the scope of FOX's rights. [line]2[/line]fyi: expect another big night for TOONAMI tonight as Jack the Giant Slayer failed to do $8m at the BO on Fri.

Shouldn't CN retain the rights to the original Clone Wars mini series, too? I could see Toonami airing that again, if they wish to do so. Unlike the current Clone Wars series, that series was co-produced at CN Studios. Being a co-production, CN might have perpetual rights like they do with GITS SAC.

Clearly they wrote that off for tax reasons.

Would they have? It got great ratings every time in aired, won them an Emmy, and its R2D2 design was actually animated in the 20th Anniversary video (as opposed to appearing just in the mural at the end a la Coop).

Yeah, that's probably one of the shows they didn't write off. Didn't Adult Swim even air it again a year ago when ASA was replaced with Star Wars programming for the Episode 1 3D re-release? Writing off anything Star Wars related would have been completely idiotic.

There's reason to believe it's in limbo like Megas XLR & reason to believe it's not. I don't recall any Turner network or other networks airing Tartakovsky's Clone Wars since Warner signed the deal with Lucasfilm for the CGI Clone Wars. With the 2D Clone Wars dating back to 2003 it's possible it was written off. But, this is SW we are talking about & I just can't imagine any network writing off a SW production because of the great nostalgia value they have. I would think Turner would treat SW property at least as well as DC properties. Turner never wrote off the 2004 JLU which is why it was easy for Vortexx to snag. I'm not aware of Turner/Warner writing off any properties in the DC animated universe including: Batman: TAS, Superman:TAS, TNBA, Batman Beyond, Zeta Project, Static Shock, JL, & JLU nor any of the 4 Batman films that were part of that. I would be very surprised then if the 2D Clone Wars has been written off. [line]2[/line] Last Feb for the E1 3D event, [as] aired RC, FG, & CGI Clone Wars & then encored it in LLN. The 2D Clone Wars was not a part of that. The #'s have beaten every TOONAMI night since. The hrs before the encored CGI Clone Wars avg'd better than 1.3m, & from 4:30-6a CW avg'd just over 1m. [line]2[/line] There were 2 surprises this past Sat: UCLA upsetting #11 ARI on ESPN, & Jack showing some legs on Sat & Sun. The Giant Slayer finished with $28m, but it's Sun beat it's Fri opening. That usually suggests strong legs. Combine that with a premiere for SNL & it's unlikely TOONAMI didn't fall from the previous week.

I don't believe Turner can write-off any Warner Bros. Animation produced series, so for instance they couldn't write off GL:TAS or Young Justice, that's up to Warner or higher up on the Turner Warner food chain just like Justice League and Teen Titans before them.

Being as it was a CN Studios production the Tarakovsky shorts could have gotten written off by Turner but I doubt they were.

CN didn't write off The Secret Saturdays which is a show they slowly killed off after the toys didn't sell well enough. I get the feeling the only period in which CN did those kinds of things to unsuccessful shows was around the time both Megas XLR and IGPX were produced or perhaps Megas simply failed on a greater scale at the time, IGPX absolutely did. Given that, I don't think Generator Rex will get written off but if any recent shows are qualified as bombs it's that along with Level Up and some live-action efforts but they were probably cheap enough not to cause financial woes while Generator Rex likely cost a lot more to produce.

Just for the record my suggestion that they wrote off the 2D Clone Wars was mostly meant to be a joke. Also, I enjoyed what I saw of Generator Rex. Is it not worth my finishing at some point? And for that matter was The Secret Saturdays even any good?

The first season of Generator Rex was pretty good, but the rest of the series really goes downhill with weak pacing and terrible fillers. The finale was pretty satisfying though. The Secret Saturdays was much better in my opinion with its characters and storyline. I wish it had more than one season, but it is really good.

I wouldn't mind seeing the 2D Clone Wars on Toonami since I enjoyed that more than what I saw of the CGI series, but with Disney owning Star Wars, it's pretty unlikely that they would have any Star Wars series air on a channel that they don't own.

I find it really hard to believe Megas failed that badly, with the way people still remember it and talk about it to this day. The way CN makes it sound, I must have been the only one watching it. I wanted so badly for it to air on Toonami. We can only hope George is able to get the rights back.

The ratings reports had it doing fine. From the sound of things it was canceled mostly because CN wanted to focus on Ben 10 as their big action show.

The thing is, since it was a co-production, they likely have perpetual rights to the 2D Clone Wars. Even though Disney does own Star Wars now, I don't think Disney can automatically override any pre-existing perpetual rights. For example, FOX will legally still hold the perpetual rights to the original Star Wars movie (A New Hope) , and they still hold the rights to the other 5 existing films until their contract expires.

That pretty much sums up my sentiments with one exception. The power hungry ultra-nationalists didn't excite me. Van Klive screwing them over did. [line]2[/line] It's anybody's guess what happens to SW productions form here, but odds are Disney & FOX will battle it out in the courts. Officially, FOX has perpetual rights over E4:ANH, & their rights to E1-3, E5&6 don't expire until 2020. E4:ANH is the very foundation of SW & the basis for everything else since. Many chars in the other 5 films are first mentioned in E4. Disney got it wrong. FOX has no right to distribute future Lucasfilm productions. They have plenty right to distribute their own SW productions. If Disney challenges FOX's future plans under their current rights FOX might just decide to return the fire & annouce they are remaking the trilogies without Lucasfilm before some of their rights expire in 2020. [line]2[/line] Because of this contentious situation, it just got a lot more complex to enter into new agreements for airing past SW productions. That makes it very doubtful Clone Wars 2D will appear on [as]/CN in the near future. [line]2[/line]Sunday Cable Ratings: ‘The Walking Dead’ Wins Night, ‘The Bible, ‘Vikings’, ‘Shameless’, ‘Real Housewives of Atlanta’, ‘Pawn Stars’ & More - Ratings | TVbytheNumbers[as] faced a major beat down as FG fell to a 0.95 18-49 avg & barely above 2m tv's on Sun @ 11p. AMC's WD beat it w 1.4 18-49, Hist's Vikings did 0.7. The Bible then beat everybody at 12a with a phenomenal 1.7m avg & 0.7 18-49 avg from 12-2a. FG was the only [as] show to make the top 100 25-54. WD, Bible, & VIkings will be back next Sun vs the premiere of Loiter Squad. Earlier at 9p WD crushed all of tv with it's now usual 5.7 18-49. Combined WD+The Bible beat ABC+CBS+NBC+FOX in the hr 9.0 to 7.5 in 18-49. Extreme violence is winning the night.

Today marks the 15th Year Anniversary of ThunderCats (2011). While I find it unfortunate that the show was canceled before it had a chance to finish its story, I am glad that the show's art director was willing to give fans closure via a podcast interview.
Okay, so I found out that Sailor Moon had meet and greets at Universal Studios back in May. It would have been so cool if we had that at the turn of the century. I have gotten hugs from a Sailor Moon and a Sailor Mars at a local con back in the 2010s and spent under $100 doing it, so I don't know if this is worth the splurge but I can see that these affluent geeky people are enjoying their Sailor Moon hugs.
The characters from Netflix's Mating Season apparently were born from the same deeps as the Warner Bros cartoon characters
