What about Toriko?

Love the manga, but the Toriko is pretty childish and not really something that I think Toonami on [adult swim] should air. It's a better fit for Nicktoons. Fairy Tail is a much better choice, even though I'm not too fond of the anime version. In any case, the latest substantiated rumor is that Soul Eater is coming to Toonami. Ishtar can't complain too much, since it's definately not a budget show and it was made in 2008, and it's a 51 episode series that's consistent in quality till about the last 4 episodes or so. I'm sure it'll do well.

As stated in the Ratings thread, I'm all for it. It has a fanbase, it's an easy show for general viewers to engage in, and it's been one of the most requested shows. It's also not too old.

After the lamest TCats ep yet, I hope it's slated to take that spot & TCats moves down after S7 ends. I can't recall if they promo'd the season finales of DW & Sins like they have S7 but even if these are 1 & done deals, it probably doesn't take much lead time to get it again. Soul Eater might be a sign they want to keep the exorcist/reaper/demon hunters theme going beyond Bleach. If so that would mean Supernatural, Blue Exorcist & D.Grayman are possibilities as well. I'm not sure about BE, but Sup is Warner anime, & DG is FUNI. In any case, I like the Soul Eater choice.

They might be re-thinking the value of 3-6a as well. While a 33% gain for Bleach & Naruto in the lead hr is the lead story, the 3-6a growth is more impressive. 3a GXP is doing nearly as well as last yr's 1a Drrr. FA:B 3:30a matched last yr's 2a FLCL. Last yr's 4-6a were encores of Bleach, FA:B, & Drrr followed by IY. This yr's 4a Bebop beats that by 32% & the 4:30a by 48%! This yr's 5a IY beats that by nearly 58% & the 5:30a by nearly 43%.

That kind of growth means more competition amongst advertisers for the slots which will definitely raise the value of the slots. I can't imagine this kind of sustained growth occuring on any other network for those hrs so that makes it even more noticeable. There may be no better buy for an advertisers money right now than these TOONAMI slots.

Soul Eater is a few years old, this is one of those "it's about time Adult Swim got it" situations but it'll be another cable premiere for anyone who doesn't have the FUNimation Channel anIf d while it's been on Netflix, Hulu and YouTube I've got to believe that if something as used as Samurai 7 can get respectable numbers at 1:30, then Soul Eater can crack 1 million in that slot or 1AM.

If this is their "new new" show that's gives us an idea of what they consider "new new" and if it isn't then maybe Toonami has an even bigger show planned for when ThunderCats finishes this Spring.

It's been confirmed that Soul Eater is taking the 1:30am slot. I would have prefered that it would get the 1am slot too, but I guess they didn't want to mess with the first three shows of the block because of the consistency of their ratings. Depending on how well Soul Eater does, though, I think it could move up.

Shorts TV currently has the rights to D. Grayman. I've seen it play a few times there.

I was surprised to find that the obscure shorts.tv HD channel is now devoting 7 hrs/day to anime. I believe they only have S1 & I doubt it's in more homes than FC. I don't think that's going to factor in any D.Grayman decision. Similarly shorts.tv has Kenichi, & Aquarion. What's important about shorts.tv is that it's mostly MA rated programming so it's aiming for an older audience than even FC. It's a smart strategy to pursue shows produced near the peak of the anime market like Aquarion that have high production values. It's also an indication of just how cheap it is to secure such shows.

Yeah I have Shorts TV on Directv and its actually 8 hrs of anime. A 6-9 am block thats repeated from 9-12 then another block at 4-5 pm repeated 7-8pm. So they end up playing 9 episodes a day twice. They also have Full Metal Alchemist.

What's cool about the original FMA airing is that it's a digital transmission vs the old analog transmission on [as]. It's never looked better though the ar gives the box feel. I'm able to re-size that on the HD tv though without noticing any loss in definition. What pkg is available with on Direct TV because you have to get the HD premiere pkg on U-Verse to get it. On top of the base HD monthly fee of $10/mo that's an extra $7/mo.

TMNT did about 2.6m tv's & 0.5 18-49 on Nick on Sun morning, so the Sat broadcast fig'd about 3m & 0.65. It looks like YJ beat it in 18-49. I'm surprised because it was back to the beetle storyline which I find boring. It could have been a WOM build up from the week before which was a solid ep. If that's the case next week's will probably fall below 2m again. Still those are much better 18-49 #'s than TCats avg'd in it's back 1/2 & while those #'s are suspect on TOONAMI the tv's are solid.

It really is looking like sports is the biggest threat vs TOONAMI right now. The week that TOONAMI dipped, ESPN beat it 12-1a. The week TOONAMI rose, ESPN lost to it 12-1a. There's been a consistent pattern there since the PaQ man fight in early June. The NBA is also a threat as it dropped FG to 2.5m on Fri night. Big drops followed & the AD encore lifted the block to 1.2m. Normally the NFL punishes [as] on Sun night, but not on Superbowl Sunday because the other networks don't dare air a premiere then. The most noticeable thing was that the repeat Walking Dead mini-thon at 12a tied Superjail in 18-49. The drop from FG to RC was 900k, & the next drop was 600k. So it's probable the tail end of that WD thon beat [as].

They actually have a more detailed schedule listed on their website. ShortsHD has aired many anime series from FUNimation, including FMA, D. Gray-man, Aquarion, Black Butler, Sands of Destruction, Jyu Oh Sei, Ghost Hunt, Kenichi: The Mightiest Disciple, and maybe something else that I am forgetting. And for the record, yes they have aired both dubbed seasons of D. Gray-man.

They also had Trinity Blood listed in the original press release, but it has yet to air on the channel. I highly doubt that a ShortsHD broadcast would prevent a show from airing on Toonami, it would most likely be a similar situation to what happened with the FUNimation Channel and Casshern Sins, where the show simply continued to air on both.

Also, One Piece is now airing on TV Japan, albeit in Japanese, every Monday at 6:30pm EST. According to viewer reports, they are using the FUNimation subtitles. I'm not sure if this affects its chance of airing on Toonami.

What was further bizarre about that is the proper ending has been playing, which got removed from the DVD release. Subtitled too:

Regardless, before I get totally off topic, TV Japan's airing should not prevent other networks from picking up One Piece.

Those look like pretty solid ratings. Bleach and Naruto keep breaking the one million mark. Thundercats hasn't been able to do that for awhile, but it's still doing really well and I'm sure it will continue to do so when it's moved to 1:30AM. Samurai 7 did pretty well and I hope that the finale can get some good ratings. The promo they made for it was pretty awesome, so that might attract more people. Sym-Bionic Titan and even Eureka Seven did pretty well for their timeslots as well.

Well it's good the average is the best so far, I was a bit concerned that ThunderCats didn't quite crack a million and Samurai 7's kickass promo didn't drum up larger numbers for it either. A very impressive number for Bleach but still a sizable drop-off from Boondocks and not enough to beat Black Dynamite this time but dang that BD dropping from a 2.2 mil to just under 1.5 mil. An over 700k drop. It seems likely if this continues that BD could lose 1 million viewers from Cleveland soon. RC lost nearly a million from Family Guy on Sunday as did Newsreaders on Thursday. If Bleach keeps losing to Boondocks reruns, expansion is just a dream.


Nice to see Venture over 1 million that week.


Cowboy Bebop back to the beginning pulls ahead of E7, GXP and FMAB though not by a substantial amount so they all did fine and nothing below 650k even. It's a pitty S7 and SBT weren't a bit higher but over 800,000 is still good to see.

These ratings are awesome. The front of the block did great, although S7 should be getting more. I really want it to hit 1 million for the finale, but I feel as like that's just fantasy.

Too bad Thundercats didn't hit 1 million again. When Soul Eater hits the lineup, I have no doubt that the first 3 shows will hit at least 1 million each night. If we can carry that back to Thundercats, that would be even better.

That back of the block is what surprises me the most. The 4:30 Bebop got higher ratings than the four shows before it. And the last two hours in general got ratings that match or exceed the average ratings Casshern got. If anything, this shows that the back of the block can still hold it's own.

Probably, but given the look from the previous week, everything lost viewers with Bleach losing 275k viewers at the highest. Nielsen does suck with size so I won't disagree there.

Edit: However, when compared to other weeks this is about the normal average. New Bleach and Naruto did elevate the ratings a lot so it's not bad but again from last week...ouch.
