Toonami Ratings

Jeff, if you want a % breakdown of the American people you take the 288m tv's they estimate & you divide it by the 25-30k metered HH during non sweeps months & the 2.5m covered HH during sweeps months. It's still far greater representation than polling data which news organizations swear by. The statistical methods hold as long as you have a diverse enough representation in your sample. That's how they arrive at national polls from a sample of just 1K's. I abbrev all the time so just get used to it if you bother to converse with me. You should know that NetRatings now include digital simulcasts which include the syncs that are popping up on cable now.
Where'd you get that 288 million number?

That is inaccurate.

From Bloomberg:

The number of U.S. TV households fell by 500,000, reflecting the popularity of online viewing and results of the 2010 census, according to Nielsen, producer of the weekly ratings that help set advertising prices.
The adjustment in U.S. TV households to 114.2 million took effect Aug. 27 and will apply to the television season starting this week, New York-based Nielsen Holdings NV (NLSN) said today in an e-mailed statement.

Total TV households for the 2012-13 season (i.e. this season) is 114.2 million, not 288 million. You overshot that number by over 170 million. Here's a breakdown by market of where these numbers, provided by Nielsen, are coming from and how they add up.

Further, I don't see any research nor sources that claim that sweeps numbers are enhanced from the small sampling covered per household (between 50 and 60,000 per Nielsen house) to 2.5 million viewers per Nielsen house.

And while NetRatings cover simulcasts of televised programming, 98% of all shows on television are either shown online either next-day or next-week and not counted in the Live ratings.

http://www.nielsen.com/us/en/newswire/2011/factsheet-the-u-s-media-universe.htmlHouseholds & total viewers are not the same thing. Nielsen estimates about 287m tvs for America. You're wrong about 1 box per HH. They don't do that any more. They measure all the tv's in the HH. During sweeps the 25-30k metered homes that now cover the top 64 markets are supplemented by over 2m diaries that cover the remaining 150 markets. I believe Nielsen only covers the top 204 markets. The lesser markets are only measured during sweeps months so disputes are resolved using set top data from providers serving those markets.
NetRatings do not count in tv ratings. Nielsen clearly limits tv to be traditional viewing covering tv sets only. NetRatings still rely on server data for the most part, but Nielsen is shifting that with new technology that measures gateway activity in the home. All Nielsen metered HH's (incl dorm rooms, frats, sors, & apts) will be upgraded with these devices in the yrs to come. But that doesn't make them less important. In this shell game if you will, advertisers are always ahead & they are looking more at aggregate ratings than just tv. That's why the synccasts are continuing to grow. What a Difference the Day(PART) Makes Per income breakdown of LN (11p-2a).

This is what happens when one poster takes over a topic and his reality distortion field only extends over himself, leaving the rest of us to question what is going on in as civil a way as possible.

Edit: can we institute a ban on TV ratings jargon? It's really getting annoying to see here due to horrible overuse. I don't want to see another HH or LLN in here again.

What kind of person tries to claim a ban on ratings jargon in a RATINGS thread is justifiable? There are other names that fit you but egotist is the most friendly. A reality distortion field? I imagine that over a person who enters a ratings thread having no interest in discussing ratings! Since all of things pertaining to the jargon are too complex for you, just accept this as reality: Nielsen is the TV Ratings king not just in America but the world as a whole as they now claim they measure over 40% of the world's viewing habits. With that kind of power, calling their ratings into question is futile.

You're first mistake is you think I care what you think. You're second is failing to understand that attempts at bullying will only fuel the fire.

I'm reading the site you're offering, and this is what I see:

From smartphones to 3D televisions, The Nielsen Company provides a view of the device usage and audiences in the U.S.

Fast Facts:

Average Number of TVs per U.S. Household: 2.5
Percentage of Americans with 4 or more TVs: 31%
Number of Mobile Phone Users (13+): 228M
Percentage of U.S. Mobile Subscribers with Smartphones: 31%
Number of mobile phone web users: 83.2M

No 287 million TVs.

Maybe in the graphic that's on the page:

Nope, not there either. Considering this is an older graphic and not up to date with the more recent numbers I've shows two separate resources from, it shows 115.9 million households with at least one television set.

But hey, look at that, Adult Swim's in the top 10 mobile video channels (YouTube is, of course, number 1). It also shows the mobile phone universe is much larger than the television universe. But mobile phones aren't counted in the Live TV readings at all.

You're wrong about 1 box per HH. They don't do that any more. They measure all the tv's in the HH.
There actually is still just one box per Nielsen household. It measures everything you watch. Everything. There are numerous accounts online from actual Nielsen households explaining how their viewership gets counted throughout the internet. Like this one, this one, this one, and this one.

During sweeps the 25-30k metered homes that now cover the top 64 markets are supplemented by over 2m diaries that cover the remaining 150 markets. I believe Nielsen only covers the top 204 markets. You're misreading. Only the top 64 markets use actual meters, and the top 64 are what advertisers care about the most. There are no meters in the remaining markets, just diaries. And those are tedious and not as important as the meters.

Okay, this has gone on long enough.

The number of reports on this thread has reached a boiling point. I'm locking this here and now.

I also gave RIF a warning to knock off his attitude or he'll be suspended, at the very least.

Okay, so I found out that Sailor Moon had meet and greets at Universal Studios back in May. It would have been so cool if we had that at the turn of the century. I have gotten hugs from a Sailor Moon and a Sailor Mars at a local con back in the 2010s and spent under $100 doing it, so I don't know if this is worth the splurge but I can see that these affluent geeky people are enjoying their Sailor Moon hugs.
The characters from Netflix's Mating Season apparently were born from the same deeps as the Warner Bros cartoon characters
