Personally I prefer part 1 of Naruto the fights were a lot more stratgic the powers weren't too over the top and I sort of feel the sense of Dread in the fights

Though Shikamaru fight with Hidan is my favorite arc

So what are your guys thoughts

Part 1 is better than Shippuden by far.

Part 1 had some honest-to-god charm and emotion to it, while Shippude is a bloated, aimless, unstructured, uninspired melodrama that doesn't even feel like the same story.

Gonna have to agree. Part 1 had a story to it. Even that massive filler arc is better than Shippuden. It just feels like Dragon Ball Z.

I like both, especially as Part II begins to ponder themes like war and the affect on child soldiers and society.

Yes indeed. I believe Naruto has shown us that turning children into soldiers often has the very disastrous effect of making them dead. And the ones that survive either become proponents for peace or lunatics that want to destroy the world.

Comrades,

i prefer part 1. the poor pacing of the first 70 or so episodes of shippuden made it really hard to sit through. the pacing of part 1 wasn't perfect either but it was a lot better imo.

i also prefer most of part 1 filler material over shippudens. those one episode comedic fillers from part 1 were terrible but i thought the multi-episode filler arcs were enjoyable for letting some of the minor characters shine for a bit.

I bailed on Shippuuden as soon as it became clear that Kishimoto was just going to prolong the story as long as it kept selling. I enjoyed Part 1 much more, but that may be nostalgia talking, as it was starting on TV my first year living in Japan, and I watched it every week with all my friends. I could still probably sing every one of those theme songs. (The best part about Shippuuden, in my mind, was how perfect that first opening theme song way, by the way. Heroes Come Back, indeed.)

Big chunks of part 2 did wonders for Naruto's hero's journey. The pinnacle of it for me was when Pain / Nagato was the greatest adversary around. There was some good stuff in the buildup to the finale too. Right now though, I have to second that it's dragging and that this is a story that has been stretched out for much too long. I wish more shonen could be like my favorite Rurouni Kenshin, packing well executed storylines that don't overstay their welcome.

Watched the live-action "Moana" today and felt nothing that special compared to the original 2016 film. In fact, I don't remember much from the first animated film, but I think they barely changed anything in the 2026 version
@Sam the Cartoonist is right, I've registered on this site two times and I've enjoyed it! :) I'd posted this back in 2016, over ten years ago!
