Liden Films has released new information regarding its upcoming anime adaptation of Hitoshi Iwaaki’s Historie manga. The anime was first announced on December 31st, 2025, and is now slated to air in January 2027.
Historie is a story that dramatically retells the life of Eumenes of Cardia, a famous general of the Macedonian Army who lived in the late 4th century BC. He became an advisor to the Macedonian King Phillip II at a young age and eventually served as the personal secretary of Phillip’s son and successor Alexander III, better know to history as Alexander the Great. When Alexander died suddenly in 323 BC, Eumenes was thrust into a maelstrom of conflict that would seal his reputation as one of the most renowned generals of Ancient Greece. His story has been preserved in various classical texts including Plutarch of Chaeronea’s Life of Eumenes.
The trailer begins with Eumenes wandering through his hometown in the year 343 BC. He comes upon the ruins of a library he once studied in as a boy. Thinking back to how he has reached this point in his life, the trailer begins showing scenes from his childhood. Eumenes remembers interactions with his father and friends at school. However, he then recounts a horrible dream he experienced, and the dark events that transpired in its aftermath.

Shimazaki previously voiced Shinichi Izumi, the protagonist of Hitoshi Iwaaki’s other major work Parasyte -the maxim-. Other major roles include Baki Hanma in Netflix’s Baki franchise and Eugeo in the Sword Art Online franchise.

Hitoshi Iwaaki is a Japanese manga writer and artist who debuted in 1985. He is best known in the West for his work Parasyte (Japanese: Kiseijū). Serialized from December 1989 to August 1994 in Morning Open Zōkan and later Monthly Afternoon, it received an animated adaptation named Parasyte -the maxim- in 2014-15. The anime would later air on American television starting in Oct 2015 on Cartoon Network’s Toonami block. Iwaaki started his serialization of Historie in 2003. Kodansha has published twelve volumes as of this date. It has been on hiatus as of 2022.
