If you could sum up the latest Sony State Of Play in one word, the word would be “violence.” The presentation was bookended with the ultra-visceral stabbings of Wolverine and capped with the reveal of Kratos’ wife slashing afterlife thugs in God Of War: Laufey. No one said a swear, but there were sure a lot of blood, guts and meat flying around.
Many surprises were dropped, but the biggest and most important reveal of the whole day was…Gitaroo Man coming to PS Plus.

Seriously, this game rules and more people need to play it.
Wolvie led the stream, but he was overshadowed by the surprise reveal of God of War: Laufey, which is already far enough along that its first 20 minutes, presented cold and unaltered, could serve as the reveal trailer. It’s a companion tale to God of War: Ragnarok that reveals how Kratos’ deceased wife, Laufey (though everyone calls her Faye) helped him behind the scenes. Faye is played by actress Deborah Ann Woll.
Faye has two companions, a talking sword (with the voice of Jack Quaid) and a talking ribbon attached to it (voiced bu Perlina Lau). There may be a third if the gelatinous cube Phranque sticks around. As Faye journeys through the afterworld, they’ll give her advice and add a bit of humor to the situation. Take note, makers of Forspoken: this is how you do the kind of thing you were trying to do.
So it needs to be said yet again: the amount of blood splatter in Insomniac’s Wolverine is just ridiculous. It has been ridiculous since the very first trailer and they’ve never toned it down. Each enemy body explodes into about 6,000 gallons of red stuff every time they’re hit. Even Mortal Kombat would tell these guys to “tone it down.” In case you were wondering, Logan bleeds about the same when hit, but he has super healing and has an excuse.
This latest trailer revealed Jean Grey as Wolvie’s companion on the hunt for captured mutants. She can be controlled in the co-op mode, and we’re assuming will run on AI in the single-player. We also saw Mystique and Sabertooth in the clip sequence toward the end.
It looks like the promise is broken…we won’t be getting Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis in 2026 after all. But they have a specific date for it: February 12, 2027. This is the third remake of the original game after Tomb Raider Anniversary and Tomb Raider 1-3 Remastered. We’ve been told Tomb Raider Catalyst is not a fourth remake, but we’re skeptical.
Rayman Legends Retold will not be just an ordinary glow-up…it’s a high-budget remake that completely overhauls the graphics and adds an entire new world of levels with music by Grant Kirkhope. Which do you like better: the 2D hand-drawn characters of the original, or the 3D recreations of this game?
They call this “Ill” because you’ll sure feel that way after watching it. It’s a horror game designed to gross you out and the grotesque visuals topped Wolverine’s. Also, the voice acting is terrible, and I can’t tell if that’s an intentional nod to the original Resident Evil or not.
The moment the setup revealed itself here — a bunch of attractive young people go to a remote location to fool around — I said “this has to be either Until Dawn 2 or a new Friday the 13th game.” It couldn’t be anything else. It sure was Until Dawn 2, but they’re keeping the monsters a secret for now. It’s got a 2027 release date.
There were many more games on the State of Play, more than we have time to gab about. To the surprise of no one, zero of them will be releasing in November opposite GTA 6.
