Toonami Ratings

GXP only aired because it was a Tenchi series. And Toonami's reviewed non-action games in the past like Animal Crossing, so there's no need to air Family Guy to get those on the block.

One idea for late night Toonami I've had would be to revive Cartoon Roulette as an action equivalent to Off the Air. They could infuse some relevant comedy bits (anime parodying Robot Chicken bits, for instance) but they could also throw in the IGPX shorts, Animatrix shorts, other short action and anime pieces.

Choices like VB, flcl, & the likes are weak. They aren't likely to make any difference at all! If the space is worth nearly as much as Fri's then the heavy hitters should be used. I don't know who has ppgz but Funimation has Shin-Chan, & it makes it a lot easier to bring it to 2a Sat's if FG is it's anchor at 2:30a.

That's the best I can muster.

That's an interesting idea HG. Having a Toonami produced variety show using various materials at Turner and WB's disposal. That could tap into Gotham Knight and Halo Legends shorts to drum up more causal interest.

Okay, sorry, I've only kinda been skimming this thread,
but is there serious discussion about having Family Guy on Toonami?

Slicing up GK & HL isn't going to make any more difference than making use of geek-worthy char segments from RC. Right now, Sat's LLN looks pathetic compared to Fri's LLN original stuff so any change is about making a big difference. Only FG will do that.

I'm sorry, but is this guy seriously suggesting that Family Guy should be on Toonami?

No. Absolutely not. That is a horrendously dumb idea. Putting Family Guy on Toonami makes no sense. Toonami is, and always has been, about action and anime. Family Guy is neither and it would completely contradict the core of what Toonami is about.

Putting it in the middle of the block just to boost ratings honestly sounds like the desperate move of a business executive that would immediately get shot down.

Toonami has always been about animated action whether it's anime or otherwise. Neither Toonami nor ASA has ever drawn a line between whether the show is comedy/sitcom (Shin-Chan)/drama. Suggesting otherwise is ignorant. There are plenty of ep of both FG & SC that are action-intense & fit that billing. I will be glad to educate you on that fact if need be.
There's nothing desperate about it. Fri LLN ratings put Sat LLN ratings to shame & this applies only to [as]. That's obvious weakness then & the main factor in that space on Fri is FG. Any one who doubts what FG can do there is simply ignorant to what it does everywhere else.

The way I see it, if Adult Swim was really concerned about the performance of their Saturday nights, they'd cancel Toonami (and all their anime) altogether and just have their comedies take over the night.
In fact, I can very easily see that happening as a last resort move by the network if they're hurting for Saturday night ratings that badly.

But anime has been in their Saturday night lineup for a few years now, right?
Sure, most likely scenario if their ratings are too low is to cancel Toonami but leave the anime (or at least a few of the anime) where they are, and then inject Family Guy and whathaveyou later in the night.
But is the current situation in that area now?

I'd like an answer that doesn't talk down to me or treat me as dense or ignorant.

RIF I know you feel you're more qualified to have an opinion on these things you research but how many people have to tell you they don't want Family Guy on Toonami before you leave well enough alone?

If you ignore everyone else's opinion here why should anyone pay any heed to yours?

Simply put, Sat has not become all-comedy because originals have continued to fail in LN space there. Over time, Boon is really the only one who has earned the right to be there & it's more worthy of being called animated action than GXP or E7. The idea of airing nothing but FOX shows is no more worthy than it is on Fri nights. Fri & Sat are the two biggest going out nights of the week by far, so the two nights are comparable. Toonami LN is compared with it's comedy original lead & it's done very well by that measure. No ratings argument is defensivable to replace it with more originals & it's a sure bet FOX will forbid FOX shows vs adhd. Toonami LLN is compared with both last yr's & Fri's & that's where it's most vulnerable. Last yr's comparison really doesn't hold water because what filled 2-3a was the same ole overplayed shows. Toonami has shows that have never aired on ASA before there now. So the only reasonable comparison is Fri LLN & Toonami's LLN looks pathetic in that regards. When you look at the details the biggest difference is FG in Fri's LLN space & it doesn't take any more than 1 ep to lift that space. As to whether or not Sat is worth it, in a comparison of Dsny, Espn, & [as] only [as] has the big gap between the nights in the space. That's evidence Sat is worth it & there is great room for improvement.
Andrew, 12,700 18-49. If 0.1 18-49 tell me they don't want it I'll listen. If 0.00001 who may or may not be Nielsen viewers tell me I won't.

ASA and Toonami are very different things. For quite some time, ASA wasn't even a fleshed out block, but was really all over the place. DeMarco even said that the current people who run Toonami did not run ASA, at least not for the longest time. They only worked on ASA when it debuted back in 2002. I'd also like to mention that even though Shin Chan did well during that time period, all of the other anime shows were doing terrible in the ratings. I would take a likely guess that people who watch shows like Family Guy and Shin Chan would NOT stick around for the rest of Toonami. Why air Family Guy for one timeslot on Toonami when there's a chance it could ruin how the remaining shows perform if those Family Guy viewers don't stay? Death Note, Code Geass, Moribito, etc. all suffered from terrible scheduling, not to mention lack of promotion, and boy did those ratings reflect that. Comedy and action just don't mix very well, as data like that suggests.

Toonami has gained more adult viewers compared to ASA, as the demo numbers suggest. They are not in a position where they need to rely on Family Guy for a boost. Saturdays are simply not going to get the same ratings as Fridays, no matter how you spin it. As
said before, more people actually watch AS on Fridays compared to Saturday overall or even their Sunday premieres. You want actual numbers? The 10:00pm airing of Family Guy last Saturday only got 1.471 million viewers, which is less than the 1.499 million viewers the 2:30am airing of Family Guy got on Friday. To think a 2:30am airing of Family Guy will miraculously do better than the 10:00pm airing is not really logical. Nor is there any evidence to show that Family Guy airing by itself surrounded by action shows would bring back a significant amount of viewers to make it worthwhile.

Shin-chan was never on Toonami, and even if it had been, it has the excuse of being an anime.

Now, if you want to address the elephant in the room, Hamatro, that was a self-acknowledged anomaly (Tom pointed it out in the opening bumper), and the only reason it made it on the block was because it was an anime. As I said, anime and action.

But if there are other examples you'd like to point out, by all means, do so.

There are plenty of ep of both FG & SC that are action-intense & fit that billing. I will be glad to educate you on that fact if need be.
Please don't tell me you're talking about Peter fighting the Chicken for 5 minutes.

Regardless, any "action" in Family Guy is totally different from the action in Bleach, Naruto, and Soul Eater.

Fri LLN ratings put Sat LLN ratings to shame & this applies only to [as].
Of course. More Americans are interested in watching American animated comedies than Japanese animated action shows. The point is that Toonami is aimed at a niche market,so comparing it to Family Guy is really foolish.

That's obvious weakness then & the main factor in that space on Fri is FG. Any one who doubts what FG can do there is simply ignorant to what it does everywhere else.
Putting Family Guy on Toonami isn't going to solve anything. First, people would just be put off by Family Guy being inserted in the middle of an action block. Second, any viewership the other shows gain would be minimal. I mean, how exactly is one half hour of Family Guy going to coax new viewers into watching the rest of the block? Most people would just watch it and then turn their TVs off.

And as El-Hazard said, if the situation is so dire that they need a huge ratings boost, they would just cancel Toonami.

Hey Rabid Inuyasha Fan.... shut up.

Your dumb ok. Family Guy is dumb, and even dumber to put on Toonami. You know what else, you are the only person on the ENTIRE INTERNET that wants Family Guy on Toonami, when Toonami doesn't even need it. So piss off, bite me, and go on with your life, because its not happening, EVER!

And that is my good deed of the day (drops the mic).

[post=4109643] 4109643 [/post] Go back & read as I've addressed all those points. You failed to read it the 1st time. I don't call people dumb or stupid just because they disagree with me. I leave that dishonor for others. Whether a person's ignorance is born from laziness or failure to understand something is not for me to know. But when they demonstrate it in an obvious way especially in a post calling me dumb or stupid I feel my pointing it out is justified.
The #'s make it clear. FG is more than capable of pulling 1m viewers to 2:30a Sat & if it does that, IY has a good chance of beating 700k on the back end. Projecting what happens in between more than justifies FG's presence then.

And yet it attracted you & has over 650 posts. What makes it so bad? The fact that a personal opinion is not enough? Is it the fact that "ratings" matter in the opinions & if you ignore them there is no tangible basis for yours? That's what I love about the thread. Ratings & all things pertaining to them matter most here.

It makes sense to you because as usual you ignore ratings & try to speak for the majority of Nielsen viewers. Past Shin-Chan ratings on ASA as well as recent [as] LLN ratings prove you wrong in both cases. There's building evidence that the Nielsen viewers are more along my line of tastes. They are looking for animated action then & they don't care if it's premise is comedy or drama. What the 2003 GXP beating E7 proves is that DeMarco can go further back for action-oriented comedy shows.

I'd appreciate it if you talk down to me like that. I'm not ignoring ratings. I'm fully aware that Family Guy, along with the other FOX comedy reruns, get great ratings. I'm also not trying to speak for the majority of Nielsen viewers, but just for Toonami fans. I don't think that the people who wanted to bring the block back and who are continuing to support it by watching it whenever they can are going to be in favor of watching a comedy series like Family Guy. It may give them a boost in ratings, but there's no guarantee that they would stick around for the rest of the block and besides that, it would just be a huge turn-off for fans of the block since it just wouldn't fit. I haven't seen a lot of Family Guy, but it doesn't have that much action in it and more often than not, it is used for comedic effect.

The people in charge of the block are simply looking into action series that they like and think will please the fans. They say that perfectly clear in their Tumblr page. Even if Nielsen viewers are looking for something more along your tastes, the block isn't really suffering from keeping its focus primarily on action-oriented shows. It's not setting the world on fire and being on Saturday nights isn't going to help ratings wise either, but it's doing well enough for Adult Swim and is in no danger of being cancelled again. They tried a comedy series with a bit of action with GXP, even though the main reason they got it was because it was a Tenchi series, but that didn't turn out that well. Beating Eureka 7 doesn't really mean much when that series didn't do well in its first run a few years ago and if GXP was really doing that well, they probably would have moved it to a slightly earlier slot by now, instead of keeping it in the 3AM slot for most of its run. Family Guy wouldn't fit on the block and I don't think any of the advantages that it could bring would be worthwhile when it would just turn off a lot of fans who come to Toonami to see action shows. Besides that, I still don't like the idea of Toonami relying on something like Family Guy to give it a boost in ratings when Adult Swim already does that throughout the week.

For me, what makes this thread bad is how it often de-volves into arguments that really don't make a lot of sense in the grand scheme of things.

700,000 is only about 100,000-200,000 more than InuYasha commonly pulls in now. Even if Family Guy got everything after it to 200,000 higher than they were without it that's not going to affect Adult Swim's nightly average significantly enough for Toonami to flip off their most loyal action viewers.

A block that is so reliant on the fans trusting the people in charge and going to the effort of staying home on Saturday nights trending hashtags during most every show every week is not all that likely to drop in an episode of Family Guy when it's sure to damage their image and the brand as a whole.

Those viewers have things they could do on Sunday instead of staying up till the break of dawn supporting Toonami. Are you so sure the casual upswing will be enough to warrant the move when it wont even significantly improve Adult Swim's overall ratings any given week?

I mean look at this. http://www.medialifemagazine.com/omg-did-you-hear-what-she-did/

They'd need 1.6 to beat Disney but they're in 3rd for total viewer total day ratings and that's kind of insane as it is. It'd take much more than rising that 2AM-6AM timeframe on Saturday to beat Disney much less Nick in total day total viewers. If Toonami's 2AM-6AM average was less than 400,000 then there would be some red flags and a necessity for improvement that might drive them to try something like putting an episode of Family Guy between two Toonami blocks but that's not what's happening so why bleed the stone?

You should probably be more concerned about improving that prime time average than worrying about 2AM-6AM on Saturday night because PT average is somewhere Adult Swim holds a weaker position. They are getting curb stomped by USA, HIST, AEN and TBS there with total viewers and adults 18-49.

Today marks the 15th Year Anniversary of ThunderCats (2011). While I find it unfortunate that the show was canceled before it had a chance to finish its story, I am glad that the show's art director was willing to give fans closure via a podcast interview.
Okay, so I found out that Sailor Moon had meet and greets at Universal Studios back in May. It would have been so cool if we had that at the turn of the century. I have gotten hugs from a Sailor Moon and a Sailor Mars at a local con back in the 2010s and spent under $100 doing it, so I don't know if this is worth the splurge but I can see that these affluent geeky people are enjoying their Sailor Moon hugs.
The characters from Netflix's Mating Season apparently were born from the same deeps as the Warner Bros cartoon characters
