  • I wonder if early 2000s short lived CN original shows like Mike, Lu and Og, Sheep in the Big City and Time Squad would be more well-remembered if they lasted longer. Ed, Edd and Eddy and grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy weren't all that popular early on, but since they lasted past 26 episode mark, they grew in popularity and are considered as CN classics.
I find it odd how there is very little amount of adult animated series from Europe compared to USA, Japan or even Canada.

If there were some, they would either set it in a US-style setting because local humor doesn't click well with foreign tastes.

In ironic twist of events, I remember how like a decade ago, Disney Channel schedule in my country was filled with live action shows with barely any cartoons, but now it is in reverse.

Well, this might be because of the existence of Disney XD EMEA in places like Serbia (where you live) and Croatia, until the channel shut down in January 2021.
In 30 years from now on, there is going to be a trailer for some person wondering around some haunted place, and then some shadowy figure appears behind him holding some kind of wooden item and before that shadowy figure attacked that person, he says....

Trying to see how SpongeBob fandom was during it's very early days on Internet made me remind that SpongeBob barely even had a fandom during it's first 2-ish years. I know that this was during Internet's infancy, but still.

I wasn't paying that much attention back then, the first time I remember seeing Spongebob discussed online was around 2003.

One thing that has been kind of forgotten to history is that a lot of the older OG fans found some of Season 3 disappointing (particularly the "Specials")

An episode like "Ugh from the 3rd season" for example might have Premiered in 2004, but it is at an earlier year according to the Copyright on when it was produced with the rest of season 3

There was. I was there. But now all that's lost.
Now that I think about it, I am shocked to see how there is/was virtually no talk about Cy Schneider. I know that he was out of the picture for over 40 years in Nick, but still he nearly lead Nick to bankruptcy.

Nick was just… boring when he was president. Pinwheel and You Can’t Do That on Television were really the only notable shows from his era. Nick tried to be an alternative to PBS around that time, not even realizing they were alienating kids in the process.

Nick Knacks has covered Cy Schneider's era in their series on Nickelodeon's history.

Plus Nickelodeon wasn't really popular until 1984 onward, so there isn't a lot of people nostalgic to think about his era.
I remember seeing old posts about ratings for shows and they are kind of confusing to me. Like for example when I see that premiere of a show got ratings of 4.0/11, what does it mean exactly that rating?

0.1 point is like 26.000 views in the 6-11 demographic and a 7 percent share on the same demographic. Then we multiply and get 1068000 in the demographic total.

@5YearsOnEastCoast I think the rating for what you meant by review ratings, not total viewers ratings

4.0/11 somehow is not good, but 11/11 rating review is good, excellent.

    @kanc I meant viewership ratings.
So there is now a Wikipedia article listing tv shows that are considered the best by critics. Western animated shows that are on there currently are: Simpsons, South Park, Bojack Horseman, Rick and Morty and Beavis and Butt-Head.

    1) Yes
    2) Maybe
    3) Not in my opinion but I kind of get it
    4) Really? Even now?
    5) Nah
I recently came to one thread from 2009 from one forum (not from here one), and they really had a hate boner towards late 2000s cartoons, not just some, but practically all of them. I still don't get why they got such a hatred towards them. I know they were probably in a phase of "every cartoon sucks" but it still came across as strange to me.

Like why do you use Chowder of all things as prime example to why they hated modern cartoons.

That’s the nostalgia talking. Every 10-20 years or so, a new generation of people start talking about how the cartoons from their generation were so great, and talk about how “everything sucks now”. I saw it too. In fact, I once was one of them!

Noastalgia, and people at the time being mad that shows they grew up with weren't making new episodes or even airing on TV anymore. This problem is still present today but less so due to streaming and internet having all the old shows on it.
So apparently the reason why Tom and Jerry Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory even exists is because WB wanted to keep rights to Willy Wonka and had to make another WW movie just so they could keep the rights. So they got only option to do... have Willy Wonka crossover with Tom and Jerry. Is this true?
Remember back when people were saying that "Streaming is the (bright) future"?

Streaming services are very oversaturated and they have to compete with too many streaming services. The streaming crash didn't start soon as we predicted few years ago, so it seems like streaming market is resilient for while.

Which I find that pretty ironic since streaming has become the new version of cable...

I was warning people about the possibility of stuff vanishing from streaming twelve years ago. Shoulda listened to me then while there was still time.

Back when I was a kid, SpongeBob's Sweet Victory was dubbed in my language and it makes it one of very few times that Sweet Victory was dubbed in non English language. This is how it sounds:

It felt very unnecessary. Sheen lost all of his admirable traits from Neutron and became an unlikeable moron. Nesmith and Doppy don't have the same chemistry with Sheen as Jimmy and Carl did which also makes the show boring to watch. It makes me wanna watch Jimmy Neutron instead.

Is that Joan Cusack voicing Jessie in that Toy Story Papa John's commercial? If so, it sounds rough. Woundn't surprise me if it wasn't, though.
