Animaniacs - What's taking Warner Bros. so long?

Around $10 for a single Animaniacs/Tiny Toon character spotlight DVD is better...

The price isn't the issue. I've covered this in my last post, but The Tiny Toons and Animaniacs characters are not iconic like Bugs, Daffy and the Looney Tunes characters, nor do they have the same kind of star power. They're not popular enough to warrant single character sets. Single character DVD sets of TTA and A! characters wouldn't sell.

It would be especially pointless to release character spotlight sets of either show when the TTA DVD sets haven't even gotten to season 2 yet, and the A! season DVD sets have only 1 volume left to go. It would be a waste of consumers' money.

Also, since the casts of those shows were created specifically for those shows and have no bodies of work anywhere else, there'd be no material on these spotlight sets that Joe Average Consumer couldn't already purchase (or already has) on an A! or TTA season volume set. WB isn't going to release A! and TTA single character spotlight DVD sets; they'd have no reason or financial incentive to do that.

And it would be an insult for single disc character volumes to be released - which would most likely include cartoons we already have - when a show like Animaniacs is one volume set away from completion. It would be pointless and - to me - infuriating.

I really don't see Warner Brothers releasing single character spotlight DVDs forTiny Toons or Animaniacs before the remaining volumes of those aforementioned series collections are completed. Furthermore, I wouldn't buy TTA or A! spotlight DVDs regardless of how inexpensive they might be, because I already own the complete series DVD set of A!. Only the most devoted of fans is going to pay for single disc sets of cartoons that they already have on other sets. The only way something like that wouldn't seem like a ripoff would be if the spotlight DVDs had never before seen material featuring the spotlighted character(s), and no, specially made original linking material doesn't count. If I ever want to have a Slappy Squirrel party, I can just pop in one of my A! DVDs and simply skip all of the other shorts, which wouldn't cost me a dime.

This time, I strongly agree with you.

Single character sets make sense for Looney Tunes and Disney shorts because of the amount of cartoons produced. People may like bugs, but hate coyote cartoons, and dont want to invest in hundreds of dollars to do so. But for shows like tiny toons and animaniacs, theres just not the huge amount. Fans would like a huge complete collection. Such things may not be possible for looney Tunes and disney shorts, due to the investment involved.

Then think about what characters would get these shorts. The warners, slappy, goodfeathers, pinky (which already have their own), mindy (whod buy that), and the rest (which wasnt that many). While TTA would be difficult because there are very little shorts where its just buster, just babs. Theyre costars. Then the rest. a Furball set? (even if you combined sweety that wouldn't work) Plucky? (maybe since he sorta had his own show where it was basically that) but Fifi? no. Shirley? no. Dizzy, no. It just doesnt work, even if the current sets were completed.

Unless you made your own bootleg DVD copies.

Even for $10, they wouldnt sell. If you made your own, because thats what you wanted, thats one thing, but they would never sell. But if you have access to the original released DVDs, it would be so much of a hassle to create what you wanted, that I dont really see a point in it.

You could do that if you wanted to, but the amount of time, money and equipment that would be required to make your own single character TTA and A! DVDs doesn't seem worth the effort to me.

We're in a little bit of a gray area here.

If we're talking about making DVDs for personal, private use, then that is acceptable(as far as I know now). If we're talking about making DVDs for sale(bootleging) -- even though none of you say you're actually doing that -- we have to stop right there and move on.

Thanks for your understanding.

I heard a year ago that they won't release Animaniacs Volume 4 due to "Macadamia Nut" (Look it up on Google).
Come on, Warner Brothers! You released the final Pinky and the Brain volume, and it had a Macerana parody in it, so why not release volume 4 of Animaniacs?

Guys, I don't think character sets would sell. I agree with Silverstar. But the reason is that they might be releasing other shows for now, like the animated Batman.

I still see Tiny Toons Volume 2 in my local Target store, and Animaniacs volume 1 at my local Barnes and Nobles (they might have had Volume 2 on Animaniacs too, but I don't remember). The Animaniacs DVDs I saw in stores were expensive, like 44.99 or 39.99). Come one people! Buy Animaniacs volumes 1,2 and 3 now! I am waiting until volume 4 of Animaniacs comes out for me to buy the other volumes!

Yeah the character sets wouldn't sell. Not just because the character sketches are so hit-and-miss but just because their characters aren't well-known pop culture icons like the Looney Tunes. Any person can tell you what happens in a Wile E. Coyote skit but the formula of Mindy and Buttons or something isn't common knowledge. And yeah A! volume 4 and the other TTA sets are most likely not happening.

And that's why they're not selling. The studios haven't seemed to grasp that the economy is in the dumps, so they're still charging prices for DVDs like they were back when things were good, and even then I thought the prices were high. The hardcore fans will pay that much, but the average Joe won't. Not for a show they barely remember from 15-20 years ago. Until prices drop substantially, the DVDs won't sell, and we'll never get the remaining sets.

This is exactly why people don't buy anything from Barnes and Nobles' Movie/Music department. They practically have everything at the regular MSRP, the price that it was originally at when it first came out. I don't ever recall a time where I see anything in that department go on sale or get reduced. I'm sure there are some times, but I can't seem to recall them.

Nope
Not the reason.
they could simply cut that single cartoon out of the package if that were the reason they weren't releasing the 4th volume.
The fact is, DVD is in a nosedive and has been since the recession hit.

They have had sales of sets that weren't moving and piling up in the warehouse, but even with the sale prices, those sets were still cheaper elsewhere.

Either a store carries every DVD, but sells them overpriced, or they have a lousy selection but sells them affordably. I wish we could get it both ways and have a DVD shelf with a wide variety of titles in stock that still had everything on sale. I guess that's Amazon.com.

Watched the live-action "Moana" today and felt nothing that special compared to the original 2016 film. In fact, I don't remember much from the first animated film, but I think they barely changed anything in the 2026 version
@Sam the Cartoonist is right, I've registered on this site two times and I've enjoyed it! :) I'd posted this back in 2016, over ten years ago!
