"Dork" age has a nice ring to it.

Haven't come out yet. Get with the times :p

Neither has Thundercats Roar! Yet that’s not stopping people from claiming this is new dork age. I mean aren’t the amount of “good” cartoons outnumber the “bad” ones?

I'm actually just using the term as a stylistic thing, jokingly ofc. The amount of different from the norm cartoons that I can think of don't yet quite outnumber this "dork" aesthetic I guess.

But don't you remember? In many people's eyes, the good might as well not exist.

Thing is a lot of people seem to judge the current CN shows just by their """CalArts""" art style or the comedy genre alone without even giving them a chance.

For clarification what does dork age mean and who else has had one before?

"dork" age?

Yeah, "Dork age".

So, more like new Dark age? Yeah, I think that might he stretching it, unless you're talking about action cartoons being a thing anytime soon again on this channel. Then I'd agree with you.

Yeah more likely from your opinion, and Yeah I hope action cartoons would comeback in kid channels someday or at least netflix or any streaming channel but at least aim for the young demographic with a balance of humour

Boom is doing a better job about it than CN as far as I know.

Well yeah ,Boom is doing fine as it self parodies the sonic fandom culture,Too bad it will be cancelled as season 3 will not be greenlit

So how does Victor and Valentino and Infinity Train fit into this gloom and doom “dork age” theory?

Well,Victor and Valentino may be a usual 11 minutes short like the rest of the cartoon network shows but I think it will be popular soon since it mixes a balance of humor and seriousness and infinity train I hope it will be just a miniseries and I hope it will run for 24 minutes ,so that it will help cartoon network to bring back 24 minute shows like most of the cartoon channels since they still air 24 minute cartoons instead of 11 minute ones.

There's always a generation gap for each decade.

1930s: People who grew up on the 20s shorts probably complained about the newer cartoons bringing color.

1940s: People who grew up on the 30s shorts probably complained about the cartoons being less about singing and more slapstick and violence.

1950s: People who grew up on the 40s shorts probably hated the fact that it started to become watered down and become less funny.

1960s: People who grew up on the 50s shorts probably complained that the animation was sorely lacking and flat designed.

1970s: People who grew up on the 60s cartoon shows probably hate the fact that the Mystery Inc. phase was in effect along with boring cheesy rehashes.

1980s: People who grew up on the 70s cartoons hated the babyfied/Smurf era where every studio has cashed in within the toy markets, along with Korean studios taking over, and what are those weird eyed shows from Japan?!

1990s: People who grew up on the 80s shows probably hated the more creative humor type shows along with serious shows with superheroes. Yellow people? A dumb cat and crazed chihuahua? Two Warner Brothers and the Warner Sister? An all animation channel?!! Teen blocks taking over along with the FCC mandates of the late 90s?? Tartakovsky influenced flat designs? Super saiyans?

2000s: People who grew up with the 90s shows complained about the shows being for kids, childish humor, uninspired animated radio. Pokemon. Oh, and a sponge who lives in a pineapple under the sea taking over.

2010s: People who grew up on the 2000s shows probably complained about the Adventure Time led age, reboot after reboot, less action, more weird humor and inclusive shows made from different races and genders.

So you see, in the end there will be someone else making a thread just like this one a decade from now, and people will complain about something that never belonged to them.

Woah ,Now I understand how every generation feels when things change around them,Guess we old people are a victim of the ol generation gap.and I am victim of it though I am okay with some of the reboots but I feel like the entertainment industry are overdoing it when they greenlit too many reboots. And yeah I don't like too much teen titans go clones where it change one of our beloved properties from our childhood turn into parody worse version of themselves which kids love them but adults don't like them and not faithful to the source material and also you forgot the part in the 2010 generation gap where we old people wish for more 24 minute cartoons back in cartoon network along with more adventure and action cartoon shows but with little violence just to be safe.

"Dork" age has a nice ring to it.

So true.

Neither has Thundercats Roar! Yet that’s not stopping people from claiming this is new dork age. I mean aren’t the amount of “good” cartoons outnumber the “bad” ones?

Yeah ,Good point whenever there are worse cartoons in this era there will always be good cartoons as well.

But don't you remember? In many people's eyes, the good might as well not exist.

True

Possibly

oh and by the way there is an animator professional who is going to defend this thundercats roar controversy.

Nostalgia: the most powerful drug of all to overcome. Ever. Even moreso than the likes of alcohol / smokes, obviously.

*ahem*
This thread has just been demolished:

I'm still not that interested in TCRoar, but yeah...

GAME OVER

Unfortunately, though - NOBODY WINS. Because nostalgia blinds everyone and everyone is KO'ed in the chaos.

Living proof that no time for Western fare is truly BEST TIME, save for in our own opinions (which can always change, another thing to never forget.) - something people continue to miss with every decade. History really does repeat itself, sadly.

But one could argue that "those at least looked like real people"
Indeed

Yes,I sadly agreed.

You have a good point there

I've also said on here many times that many of the Cartoon Cartoons created between 1996 and 2002 had the same style of animation too. Even the Nicktoons throughout the years had similar head shapes, nose structures, and gross humor. The thing is though, back then CN had more variety with their writing/creativity and there were so many acquired shows on the lineup from Warner Bros, co-productions, Hanna-Barbera, and anime from Japan so overall there were in fact a lot more styles with the animated shows that existed. CN today doesn't have as many acquisitions from different companies as they used to. When it comes to greenlit shows now it's either just CN original shows or Warner Bros and that's it, and a lot of these are reboots with similar humor (whether you enjoy the humor or not) which people may have a problem with. To me it's not even about the style of animation being too similar to other ones. It's about original creativity combined with GOOD writing. PPG (2016) could have been a good sequel series to the original PPG but that wasn't the case apparently. Even if you throw in modern pop cultural references from today's social media era, you can still have GOOD writing in these shows, but don't make the writing pushed too far. If ThunderCats Roar ends up being a great show with solid writing and good continuity, then I'm find with that, which I'm rooting for, but based off how TTGO, PPG (2016), Ben 10 (2017), and Unikitty have gone, people have a valid reason to be worried about ThunderCats Roar. The series must be proven on the TV screen.

There are people in the industry getting threatened over this. It's not serious at all. If you want to make things your way, make your own shows or watch the same old shows you loved to keep your "childhood" intact.

Watched the live-action "Moana" today and felt nothing that special compared to the original 2016 film. In fact, I don't remember much from the first animated film, but I think they barely changed anything in the 2026 version
