Digimon Adventure Gets a High School Sequel

I hope that the Digimon films do well enough that we get a new show, like Dragon Ball Super after Battle of Gods and Revival of F.

I want to note that the target demographic for Tri, since Toei's Press Releases as for "Adults/Fans who grew up with the original". So, while I don't think they may actual have content that wouldn't be suitable for children (or at least what Japan considered acceptable, anyways), I do think they're specifically aiming towards that Adult crowd and fan base. The fact that the voice cast for the humans was changed, also makes me think they're going "Otaku" pandering.

We also have no idea if Saban will go after the series. Right now, Toei Animation seems to be the one who is actively marketing the OVA/Movies right now for the foreign markets, plus at the upcoming Licensing Expo, Saban is completely hands off on the Digimon franchise there, rather it's Toei Animation (and some UK network for Fusion specifically) who are showing off the series. Makes me think they're more or less done with it and don't tend to pursue anything further with the franchise. However, this could indeed change, but we'll see.

There's also a chance that Toei Animation could entirely cut out the middle man for this series and do a similar release style that found in Bandai/Sunrise's Gundam Unicorn and The Origin. The fact we're already getting English promotional material for the series makes me think they're planning to try and reduce the time between Japan gets it and the west gets it.

Either way, I'm sure we'll find out soon what's going with the series. I just don't expect us to get an altered version, because this is not specifically aimed at children.

Those are good points. It wouldn't be surprising if Tri was aimed at an older audience given that it has been trying to ride on a nostalgia train. I doubt that it would contain anything too dark or intense, but it might not be trying to appeal that much to kids. It might attempt to appeal to both long time fans and younger fans, which might work, but that would probably be the extent to the series being aimed at children. As for Saban, I wouldn't mind if they dropped the license. It could result in better quality depending on who else handled the series. Toei cutting out the middle man completely might be a good idea, but I don't know if that would make it more difficult to dub the movies or make them more expensive. Still, hopefully we won't get a heavily edited version of the OVAs.

Since this series is mostly for older audiences, I do wonder what Toei will do with Digimon next when it's done?

It's hard to say considering that it will probably take a few years to finish up these OVAs. They'll probably just wait until they want to pump out new Digimon toys though.

The main site just updated with a ton of new info, including a staff list. Awaiting a full analysis from Jacob soon! :p

I'm afraid I'm not very savvy on who's-who as far as animators and art directors go, so the music credit is the only thing I really have an opinion on. Gō Sakabe will be making his Digimon debut as our composer for Tri. I'm still a little disappointed that they didn't bring back Kōsuke Yamashita from Xros Wars. Nobody comes close to the late, great Takanori Arisawa, but Yamashita carried on his tone wonderfully (Oh man, those glorious SAXOPHONES.).

Hopefully everyone on the staff does a great job.

And here's a brand new promotional video!

That was just wonderful. The animation looks terrific and the character designs do look better in motion than they did in the promotional artwork. I'm still disappointed that this is a movie series instead of a TV series, but if this video and the artwork is any indication, it does have more of a budget than a TV series would, so that is nice.

:D

Loved the remix of Butterfly, nostalgia power! The animation also looks sharp, considering that it's from Toei, but like Lucario said, it probably has a bigger budget now.

Kuwagamon vs Greymon, eh? Its giving me similar vibes to when Greymon fought the parrot in the first film.

Alphamon !!!

That image looks absolutely gorgeous. It's such a cool image. I've also heard that Japanese Amazon has listed a DVD/Blu-Ray release of the movie three weeks after it comes out in theaters. It's supposed to be eighty minutes long, which sounds good. Hopefully all of the movies will be around that length, so that they'll be able to cover the storyline and characters well within these six movies.

Amazing. That's one hardcore poster. I would love to hang it up on my wall.

And yeah, 80 minutes sounds pretty good.

Looks cool :). I wonder how this will play out, as compared to it's original anime.

Can we close that other thread about this? Its pointless to have 2 threads about the same things.

He didn't close your thread. A moderator did. The thread was closed because this thread already existed to discuss the series well before you made yours and there was no point in having two thread about the same topic.

I see ok but I didn't know this thread already made by River26 so that why I made my own one.

HAHAHA They litterally killed off the entire 02 cast!

I saw that video with the first five minutes of the movie and I definitely got the impression that they killed off the Adventure 02 kids. Seeing them fall in defeat, especially with Yolei's broken glasses coming off, seemed pretty harsh. With the way they cut to each of them falling, it made me wonder if they are trying to set these movies in a different universe where Adventure 02 didn't happen. It will probably help whenever we see Takeru and Hikari's Digivices since they were transformed into D3s in Adventure 02. I'm sure that the Adventure 02 kids will still be significant to the plot, but seeing that opening surprised me so much.

The new version of Butterfly sounded great and seeing that video made me so much more eager for the film's release. I really hope that there will be someway for them to release the movie legally online for International fans.

Well, they were up against Alphamon, of all Digimon, apparently. They really didn't stand a chance. I doubt Omnimon/Omegamon is going to have any better luck .

But I highly doubt the 02 cast is actually dead, or are at least going to stay dead, since we've still got more movies down the line so there's always the chance for them to come back and be integrated into the story proper alongside the original cast. This is probably just to "get them out of the way" for now so that they can just focus on the original Chosen :).

I agree. I'm sure that the Adventure 02 kids will factor into the storyline at some point, but these movies are obviously going to be focused on the original Adventure team, so they probably wanted to get them out of the way for awhile. I'm not sure if I could see them being alongside the original cast given that these movies are about the Adventure kids, but it is possible given that we have quite a few more movies after this one. What happened to the Adventure 02 kids might also tie in with the whole "future that wasn't meant to happen" detail that was mentioned before.

Okay, so I found out that Sailor Moon had meet and greets at Universal Studios back in May. It would have been so cool if we had that at the turn of the century. I have gotten hugs from a Sailor Moon and a Sailor Mars at a local con back in the 2010s and spent under $100 doing it, so I don't know if this is worth the splurge but I can see that these affluent geeky people are enjoying their Sailor Moon hugs.
The characters from Netflix's Mating Season apparently were born from the same deeps as the Warner Bros cartoon characters
