"Dragon Ball Daima" Series Talkback [6/14-11/1]

I just finish Dragon Ball Daima and Toonami picks it up.
I just finish rewatching Dan da Dan's first season and Toonami picks THAT up.
Perhaps now would be a good time for me to pick My Hero Academia back up.

And we're still punching.

I hope they pay their animators well over at Toei.

Oh, and screaming. Mustn't forget the screaming.

At least they confined the fighting to a ring this time. No rearranging the landscape.

And now the Hawaiian king attack.

Nice, you shot a hole in the sky.

OT: Another Blue Exorcist arc? Where do they dig these up?

Dude...you may want to get that looked at.

Uhh, Piccolo, you were supposed to hit him three times.

I think that Third Eye has gone to your head.

Little green guy for the win!

And the imp is down.

You did good.

And you are going in for a timeout.

I DON'T dream of Gomah.

Yeah, why not a Supreme Demon Queen?

Only a few days old and already he's a king.

Some are born great, some achieve greatness, some have greatness thrust upon them.

CABINET SEATS FOR EVERYONE! Surely nothing will go wrong.

Try not to break THIS plane, okay?

Ever the Luigi to his Mario, huh?

Life is getting better here in this demonic hell realm.

And Trunks and Goten realize they're both wearing diapers.

Sadly that prison only has NES games.

And Goku has immediately forgotten Glorio's name again.

And Bulma suddenly wants to eat bugs.

I bet on the underside it says MADE IN SPACE TAIWAN.

And that's Daima, ladies and gentlemen.
RIP Toriyama.

Well, that Kamehameha solves the inability to travel between worlds and probably demon sociopolitical problems. Kamehameha's can solve other things. Also I think that was the 10x Kamehameha from GT?

You had one job, Piccolo. lol.

I don't think that's what Arinsu wanted to use the book for but whatever works, lmao.

Whoa, great nod to OG Dragon Ball with the Evil Containment Wave. Gomah and Degesu being stuck in there for 99 years is justice well served.

King Kuu, eh? Who would of thunk that would happen. So Toriyama and co. to decide he'd be the next one.

Ok, so Goku reveals SSJ4 was something he was working on after Buu but wasn't sure it would work. So Neva's push helped him go over the line so he could achieve it. So stands to reason by Super, he still hadn't perfected it and abandoned it quietly as they moved towards the SS God transformations and Ultra Instinct. Okay.

Interesting if Namekians returned home.

Ok, it was cute Panzy made Vegeta wave.

Funny seeing how they all returned to adults. Chi-Chi was the cutest one.

Bulma scored all that Majilite. An energy source that can last 30 years? I sense Capsule Corporation stocks soaring.

lol, bought all the Beatu Bugs.

One final hilarious joke, the Third Eye was just some overpriced item at a country store. rofl.

All in all, that was a fun story, a great tribute to 40 years of Dragon Ball, an entertaining 'bonus' story set before Super, all the cool reveals of DB lore, hope it gets at least Blu-ray treatment in the US (came out in back on July 2), and thanks to the crew and the late Toriyama-sensei!

Still looking for a good descrambler that will take 15+ letters to figure this secret message.

The mini-series that acts as Akira Toriyama's final project concludes its run on United States airwaves tonight. The episode starts with Goku successfully transforming into Super Saiyan 4 as an adult. Goku begins fighting Gomah as a distraction so that Piccolo will be able to land 3 consecutive hits to the back of Gomah's head in order to remove the Evil 3rd Eye/Tertian Oculus from Gomah's forehead. Goku puts up an even better fight against Gomah as Gomah quickly loses his composure.

Unfortunately, the power of the Evil 3rd Eye/Tertian Oculus heals Gomah which allows him to keep up with Goku. Gomah also uses the power of the Evil 3rd Eye/Tertian Oculus to aid himself in other ways, such as creating a giant septor that launches multiple magic balls and trying to surround Goku by levitating rocks. As Goku & Gomah fly around at a fast pace, the fight briefly takes places within the underground section of Gomah's arena before they reemerge to the surface. Eventually, Goku powers up to a significant degree which catches Gomah off guard.

After the power up, Goku begins to charge a Kamehameha. Gomah uses the power of the Evil 3rd Eye/Tertian Oculus to create an magic shield to protect himself but the Kamehameha manages to break through the magic shield…and even manages to shoot through Gomah's torso. The Kamehameha is so powerful that it continues to shoot through the Demon Realm's 2nd World near Tamagami 2 and through the Demon Realm's 3rd World near Tamagami 3. This leads to the creation of a hole in the Demon Realm's 1st World that has a waterfall.

The hole in Gomah's torso provides Piccolo with an opportunity to strike…but Gomah manages to hit Piccolo before he can deliver a 3rd consecutive hit to the back of Gomah's head. The power of the Evil 3rd Eye/Tertian Oculus begins to heal Gomah's torso and creates a magic barrier to prevent Goku & the others from interfering with the healing process. After healing, Gomah powers up to toss Goku & the others around the arena while delivering an evil laugh. Kuu ends up being tossed near Gomah's head…and uses the Book of Magic Items to land 3 consecutive hits to the back of Gomah's head, thus removing the Evil 3rd Eye/Tertian Oculus from Gomah's forehead.

Without the Evil 3rd Eye/Tertian Oculus, Gomah returns to his Normal Form and Gomah's arena breaks into 3 parts. The Evil 3rd Eye/Tertian Oculus ends up landing near Glorio who wastes no time stepping on it in order to destroy it. Panzy compliments Glorio for destroying the Evil 3rd Eye/Tertian Oculus and they both compliment Kuu for removing the Evil 3rd Eye/Tertian Oculus from Gomah's forehead...after a moment of staring at him in disbelief and Kuu comments about the stares. Most of the other present characters join in on complimenting Kuu before complimenting Goku for putting up a great fight against Gomah as he flies down to join them (still in Super Saiyan 4 Form) and Goku is glad that "it all worked out".

Sometime later, Gomah is tied up and furious when Neva notes how short Gomah's term as the Supreme Demon King lasted (while also being confused by Neva not acting senile). Arinsu & Marba arrive with a bottle with the intent to trap Gomah in it (in a manner similar to the Evil Containment Wave) for 100 years; Piccolo notes that Gomah didn't actually mistreat Dende which Gomah capitalizes on to insist he has good qualities…which leads to Piccolo that they only seal Gomah in the bottle for 99 years. Using her own magic, Arinsu brings out Degesu (who is still tied up) and suggests sealing Degesu in the bottle alongside Gomah which Marba agrees is a "splendid idea". After sealing Gomah & Degesu into the bottle, Marba mentions that there's a garden and games within the bottle while Goku (who is back in his Normal Form and has picked up the Power Pole) hears Gomah shouting from within the bottle.

Arinsu asks who will take over the position of Supreme Demon King now that Gomah & Degesu has been sealed away and is surprised when Shin points out she wanted the position. Shin admits even he's surprised that he's considering her a qualified candidate but says she "held on to something resembling a conscious" which Arinsu finds "insulting" as she insists she hasn't abandoned her plans…although she is surprised when Neva asks if she still wants to make Demon Realm into a "terrifying" realm that will make the Mortal Realm fearful; Arinsu says she isn't willing to take the position without the Demon Realm's set of Dragonballs as she believes that's what would ensure her term wouldn't end in a single day due to being usurped…which leads to Neva revealing that the one who manages to defeat the Supreme Demon King in a fight is also the one who becomes "the first in line" to become the new Supreme Demon King. This leads to the other present characters realizing that the person who fits the description Neva gave is Kuu.

After letting the revelation sink in for a moment, Kuu gladly accepts the position and gains a white cape that resembles Dabura's cape. Kuu proceeds with declaring Arinsu his Vice Supreme Demon King while also declaring Duu, Glorio, Neva, Kadan & Marba his Ministers. Kuu even extends invitations to the Z-Fighters to join his cabinet but Goku politely declines as they plan to return home; when Kuu asks if anyone else wants to be a Minister, Hybis volunteers…but it goes unnoticed. Kuu then flies towards a crowd with a confused Arinsu as he describes his plan to make the Demon Realm "a good but still pretty frightening place to live"; Piccolo notes he has no objections to the era of Kuu as the Supreme Demon King.

At a later point in time, the group arrive at Kadan's Castle in the Demon Realm's 3rd World where Panzy provides Bulma with a generous supply of Majilite while the "Majin Brothers" provide Shin some giant cookies (with Shin politely admitting he doesn't need to eat but he still appreciates the gesture). During these interactions, Vegeta insists to Goku he could've defeated Gomah without Goku getting involved while Goku tries to convince Vegeta to not be hung up about how things went down. When Vegeta accuses Goku of keeping a secret transformation, Goku realizes Vegeta is referring to Super Saiyan 4 (and even outright uses the name) and explains that he had trained really hard after the fight with Kid Buu but admits he didn't know if he'd "be able to pull it off"; when Vegeta grumbles about Goku getting lucky "at the Super Saiyan Bargain Sale", Goku compliments Vegeta for unlocking Super Saiyan 3…which leads to Vegeta trying to pass it off as a new form called "Ultra Vegeta 1" but Goku just laughs off Vegeta's improvised name for the form. Neva asks Piccolo & Dende if they would be willing to stay in the Demon Realm and they both politely decline but Dende recalls some (Universe 7) Namekians becoming nomads after Frieza destroyed Planet Namek and offers to suggest the Demon Realm as a home for the Nomad Namekians which Neva appreciates.

Eventually, Panzy informs Goku that the airship is all loaded up with the necessary supplies and Kadan points out to Goku that the "shield of light" being removed from the Demon Realm Tunnel also removed the "heavy air" from the Demon Realm's 3rd World as a way to lead in to him thanking Goku for all he & his friends have done for the Demon Realm. As Glorio prepares the airship for takeoff, the two groups bid farewell to each other and Kuu mentions he'll call the Z-Fighters if anymore trouble comes to the Demon Realm with Goku graciously accepting should the need arise. Panzy joins Glorio on the airship to escort the Z-Fighters back to Universe 7. The end credits showcase the Z-Fighters back on Earth have been restored to their proper ages while also showcasing the Tamagami Trio as well as Gomah & Degesu inside the bottle.

After the end credits, Goku asks Glorio (but calls him "Gliro" which actually doesn't bother Glorio, this time around) if they can make a quick detour to the shop from the 4th episode because the Senzu Bean supply on Earth is running low and Goku figures stocking up on Medi-Bugs (Revive Buga, more specifically) would be a good substitute; Glorio is willing to oblige Goku's request and the group arrive at the shop. After a moment, the female shopkeeper recognizes Goku & Shin but is surprised by how they are adults now; she initially wonders if it might've been a side effect of the Medi-Bugs and Goku confirms that wasn't the case but does compliment the Medi-Bugs for being helpful. Bulma is disgusted when she finds out that Medi-Bugs are literally bugs…but quickly decides to buy the shop's entire stock of Beaut Bugs when the female shopkeeper mentions eating a Beaut Bug will make one's skin "10 years younger". While browsing around, Panzy stumbles upon a jar that contains…2 more copies of the Evil 3rd Eye/Tertian Oculus. The female shopkeeper casually mentions ordering 3 of them at some point in the past but only managed to sell one of them due to how expensive they are (along with many being unnerved by them too). The episode ends with Goku, Bulma, Shin, Glorio & Panzy continuing to look at the jar in shock as the female shopkeeper casually offers to give the group a discount if they buy the remaining 2 copies of the Evil 3rd Eye/Tertian Oculus.

As of tonight, DBD completes its Toonami run. I didn't expect Kuu to be the one to remove the Evil 3rd Eye/Tertian Oculus from Gomah's forehead and become the new Supreme Demon King but in hindsight, it's the kind of twist Akira Toriyama would pull off along with the reveal that the Evil 3rd Eye/Tertian Oculus was a store bought item with multiple copies. Considering how she was the catalyst for this saga by making Gomah paranoid, I feel Arinsu got off rather easy among the villains. It was cool to see more of SS4 Goku in action and while Goku's word choice to Vegeta confused some viewers, interviews with staff/crew members did confirm that Neva's magic was the catalyst for Goku unlocking Super Saiyan 4 (such as the one found here) which suggests Goku was saying he believed a form beyond Super Saiyan 3 existed in theory and he was training to unlock it in practice. With Goku wanting to stock up on Medi-Bugs, hopefully there's a chance a future saga will feature a Medi-Bug Fusion in action. Likewise, here's hoping it won't be much longer before the next animated series in the franchise arrives.

I take it Goku has never played a video game, if he never figured out that all he needed to do was attack the eye.

As I said when the show first aired, I enjoyed it overall as a nice side quest series. It's not the best DB series and I can see where the detractors are coming from but I look at it as Toriyama's version of DBGT. At least SSJ4 and SSJ3 Vegeta is now canon.

I just hope we get a continuation of Super. There's plenty of manga to adapt now.

Agreed. All eyes on January when that Dragon Ball event happens. Should be a mix of announcements for the Super manga, Super anime, and the next movie. Though I wouldn't put it past them to rebrand the Super anime with a new title like Dragon Ball Ultra.

Watched the live-action "Moana" today and felt nothing that special compared to the original 2016 film. In fact, I don't remember much from the first animated film, but I think they barely changed anything in the 2026 version
@Sam the Cartoonist is right, I've registered on this site two times and I've enjoyed it! :) I'd posted this back in 2016, over ten years ago!
