"Dreamworks Releases New Trailer For Shrek 5"

"If all had gone according to plan, we’d be seeing Shrek 5 in theaters right about now. The comeback sequel was originally announced for a Summer 2026 release, but it was then unexplainably delayed an entire year. This was after the promotional campaign had already begun, so a couple teasers exist with the 2026 date on them.

This is the first peek at Shrek 5 that actually hints at the plot. For whatever reason, Shrek and his family have to leave Far Far Away and journey into the comparably more dangerous Farther Farther Away. While Far Far Away is glossy and glamorous (based on Hollywood), Farther Farther Away seems more like 1970s New York City. or London during one of its down eras. And while in Far Far Away Shrek got to be literally king, in Farther Farther Away he gets to be in JAIL.

Shrek 5 will feature the return of Mike Myers, Eddie Murphy and Cameron Diaz. I shouldn’t have to say who they’re playing since you all know by now. But enough time has passed that they’ll now be joined by their teenage offspring: Zendaya as Felicia, Marcello Hernández as Fergus and Skyler Gisondo as Farkle."

The final gag is a homage to Murphy’s breakthrough role in 48 Hours. Anyone who legally saw that in theaters on its original release without a parent or guardian (or at all in much of the world) will be in their sixties now.

But hey, this 39 year old whippersnapper got it!

And honestly, the renders from Dreamworks Shrek 1 days were fine. But that era was kinda rough. It straddled the uncanny valley for me. Where as, these days, DW has aced renders and expression in spades.

But also, It has been a really really long time since I watched a Shrek movie properly. So I cant compare as much as people who watched it multiple times.

I am interested to see how Shrek's kids will factor in. I know it will focus on his daughter. But I wonder what the others have to offer, even if minor roles.

Shrek 5 should have a tribute to Steve Harwell, former lead singer for Smash Mouth, since the band performed All-Star and I'm a Believer for the first Shrek.

Is that Joan Cusack voicing Jessie in that Toy Story Papa John's commercial? If so, it sounds rough. Woundn't surprise me if it wasn't, though.
