International Disney Networks Thread Part 15

Solntse belonged to Disney for about a month, or maybe it still belongs to them now…

I noticed that Solntse was registered in November 2022, although earlier the media said the channel was put together in a rush, like two weeks before launch. So in reality, the preparation started before November. And the most interesting thing is that Disney was part of the 7TV joint venture, and the Solntse channel was legally part of Disney.

I also noticed that 7TV is owned by two companies, but they are hidden in all registries. Usually, companies resort to this very rarely. It’s possible that Solntse is still part of Disney and we just don’t know something. Also in Russian TV practice, channels can be owned by one company, while internally, under contracts, they are effectively controlled by another

If Disney founded Solnce, for me it feels like some sort of Canal Panda situation where Disney was a minor shareholder. Weird to see a Disney-owned channel not having Disney or Jetix shows in its history.

I advise you to continue to the Fox Kids/Jetix thread if you want to continue discussions about it.

Does anyone know when did Disney Junior Italy go 24/7? Or if any other feed converted to a 24/7 operation in the past? The Playhouse Disney days count

Disney Junior Italy has been 24/7 from the start, so much even Playhouse Disney Italy had been 24/7 from the start.

Where did it say otherwise?

Playhouse Disney France I believe went 24/7 in around 2004/5

I could of sworn they had a closedown bumper

That was not a Closedown bumper but a "Let's go to sleep/Good night" bumper

The schedule resumed normally afterwards

Interesting, probably a deterrent from keeping kids awake and a way of hiding what would of mostly been EU filler during the overnight hours

Sort of reminds me of what Nickelodeon was doing back in 2000 with it's earlier Nicktoons during summer hours

Wikipedia says Playhouse Disney Italy had initially broadcast in the daytime only (from 2005), but from my experience, or at least my memory, I remember the channel being 24/7, just having a EU filler schedule at late night.

It is true though that the live presentation, which by 2006 was already redundant, would be OF COURSE off at late night and after around 9pm-ish

So I think it was when the channel rebranded. The Italian Wikipedia articles probably mentioned it.

Before 2011, this was how they closed down

Yeah, this is what I was referring to

It's fitting that you talk about Dusney Junior as it first renamed in the US 15 years ago. Today is the anniversary. It's doing great against Disney Channel now. Although it mainly has to do with the fact how popular Bluey is across all the demographics.

Bluey itself has overtaken the actual Disney Channel's daytime schedules

This was not a closedown either, but a "let's go to bed" loop.

After that, the channel would go back to normal programming.

Again, Playhouse Disney Italy, AFAIK even at launch, had no closedown in the sense of "no schedule": it was 24/7

Clearly inspired by Nick Jr's name, but at least you can market "Disney J(unio)r" for toddlers internationally much easier than with "Playhouse Disney", seeing most people outside of the English-speaking world have no clear idea about what a "playhouse" is

I almost forgot, I have to edit the Wikipedia article :P

After Disney Jr. became a channel in 2012, they didn't use the bumper

Tales of Friendship was used in the early days at around 9pm

I think that in 2013-2014 it was followed by The Little Mermaid, a show that used to air on Disney Cinemagic and was removed on the new channel. They added it around June 2013 and later they put it in the English track too.

I think it happened by accident. Obviously, the license application was submitted by Media1 on behalf of the joint company 7TV, and Disney was part of that company until Disney Channel shut down.

Disney didn’t create this channel, but because of these legal nuances, Disney still managed to be the owner of Sun for a while.

---
For those who don’t know: the FTA Disney channel operated through the joint company 7TV.
---

And now I have an important question: when Disney left 7TV, they were clearly still involved after Sun launched. (Or maybe they never left.)

I wouldn't have had a problem since most people know English. It's a universal language. But the name Disney Junior is better as it clearly says the channel is for Junior ages under 7. If Nick Jr wouldn't have existed, in another scenario the channel would be called Disney Mini or something along those lines. But we don't know. The Junior name is easy to figure out for a preschool channel regardless so not sure if it was inspired.

And when Disney Jr. unveiled its current logo, it somehow reminded me of GMA Network.

In Finland, in the Nordic region and in pockets very exposed to English, not everywhere.
