"Marvel's Avengers Assemble" News & Discussion Thread, Part 4 (Spoilers)

This show can never do anything on it own and that turrible.

Neither can the current comics. It's corporate synergy gone wrong and too far.

Based on the titles, I can deduce that this is most likely a three part Ultron arc:

Crack in the System: Ultron infiltrates Avengers Tower and finds weaknesses in the team to exploit.
Avengers Disassembled: Infighting caused by Ultron's machinations in the previous episode tear the team apart.
Small Time Heroes: Ant-Man helps the Avengers shrink down to microscopic size and enter Ultron to deactivate him.

If the last one is an Ant-Man episode, the least they can do is showcase Wasp! I don't even care anymore if they don't get Colleen O'Shaughnessey to reprise her role, I just wanna see members of the Earth's Mightiest Heroes other than Black Widow!

If they plan to work on more episodes of AA, they should add Captain Marvel/Carol Danvers to the show.

Here's her picture:

Dido! This is Marvel's answer to Wonder Woman, just get the only thing that will make it better is Jennifer Hale reprising her role, but if not then again... I no longer care!

Carol Danvers, Superheroine, Awesome!

So far, Spider-Man's the only addition to the team since the premiere. As much as I like Captain Marvel, I feel like she'll just be thrown onto the show with no explanation or background. Just a freeze frame and her name, maybe some flat exposition loosely tying things to the movies/Earth's Mightiest Heroes. Its how they seem to treat every new superhero for some reason. I can't remember, was Ant-Man confirmed as a member of the Avengers back in season 1 or was he just helping out the team?

I want Captain Marvel like burning but we might have to wait until Avengers 3 since this show really doesn't seem to like working with non-movie characters. :/ And it's unlikely it'll be on the air for another three years.

Though hopefully Wacker's comments indicate they're a little less scared of tackling non-movie heroes.

But we need more female heroes, AA is becoming a sausage fest, and Black Widow ain't helping.

It's no more of a sausage fest than Earth's Mightiest Heroes was. There will always be a greater number of male heroes compared to female heroes on these shows.

Ant-Man was not a team member. He was just a guest star.

While it's true that AEMH only had two female members at the end of their run (which is still more than AA) there was also great number of female side characters. AEMH had Maria Hill, Jane Foster, Enchantress, Pepper Potts, Lady Sif, Madame Hydra, Mockingbird, Hela, Invisible Woman and Abigail Brand just to name a few. AA, on the other hand, has... Falcon's mom.

(Why is it that Falcon's mom is always butt of the joke whenever AA is brought up? She is a barely a part of it, and the cookie thing isn't that big of a deal.)

AA also had Princess Python, Hela, Tana Nile, Maria Hill (in a cameo), Gamora, Lady Zartra, Freya, and Power Princess; and that's not counting all the other female characters in the Marvel Animated Universe, which would pretty much outnumber all the females in A:EMH.

Heck, just for fun, let's count which show really has more female characters. I'm not counting characters from shows that share the same continuity with either show, since AEMH's connection to WatXM (and arguably to SSM) is little bit a grey area. I'm also not counting characters like "waitress" or "bystander no.2" for obvious reasons.

AEMH:
Wasp
Ms. Marvel
Black Widow
Enchantress
Jane Foster
Pepper Potts
Maria Hill
Lady Sif
Madame Hydra
Hela
Invisible Woman
Mockingbird
Queen Veranke
Whiplash (Cameo)
Lucia von Bardas
Valkyrie (Cameo)
Ravonna
Karnilla
Abigail Brand
Cassandra Lang
Quasar
Corrina
Quake
Betty Brant
Anaconda
Female Kang (small role)
Stardust (small non-speaking role)

AA
Black Widow
Gamora
Princess Python
Maria Hill (Cameo)
Hela
Lady Zartra
Zarda
Freya
Tana Nile
Falcon's Mom

Seems to me that AEMH wins by landslide.

Being a bit smart aleck, much? I'm pretty sure it's considered rude to "rub it in" in such a manner, instead of respectfully disagreeing.

This entire AEMH/AA rivalry is totally unnecessary anyway.

I don't know if its fair to include the entire Marvel Animated Universe in this. The combined output is like three different, 52 episode shows compared to one.

As for the rivalry, I think its inevitable. Especially since Avengers Assemble is literally a replacement show rather than a successor. I mean look at how fans get about Batman cartoons and there's usually a lot of breathing room between each of those.

But usually we can forgive the Batman shows as long as they can still tell decent stories and develop character.

Frankly, I think anyone in that kind of denial should just get over it at this point. I'm not saying that to be mean, but after two years it's best to move on.
Avengers Assemble is more than likely going to last at least 5 seasons (ending by the time Infinity War Part 2 comes out), so the best we can do is wait for the series to run it's course before we start comparing a finished show with one that's still airing.

It doesn't matter what happens in a 52 episode time span between both shows, or if one of them did more in that. There were more significant events in Wolverine and the X-Men than in the entirety of X-Men Evolution, and the latter had twice as many episodes. it's only fair to see how events play out for the next few years.

Overreaction, much? You made the claim that AA could rival AEMH with the number of their female characters and I simply showed why that's not the case.

I think measuring the first two seasons of both Avengers shows is legitimate. I mean, 52 episodes is 52 episodes. Avengers Assemble certainly isn't setting itself up to tell multi-seasonal arcs, like Earth's Mightiest Heroes or even Ultimate Spider-Man, so if the show were suddenly cancelled we wouldn't be missing a whole lot. We certainly don't need to wait 5 years before making comparisons.

BINGO. One of the reason why AA (IMO) sucks is because the stories (for the most part) are terrible. There are less complaints about AVENGERS DISK WARS because that show has at least managed to tell decent stories, despite the premise of the show.

On a more hopeful and optimistic note, it is quite possible that AA could pull a 90's 2nd season FF and 2nd season REAL ADVENTURES OF JOHNY QUEST (as well as a 3rd season USM:WW) and be completely revamped/over hauled and see a drastic improvement in it's next season (assuming that it gets a 3rd season).

As far as writing goes, I think Avengers Assemble is decent. The comparisons to A:EMH just seem to be coming from the belief that AA has to be everything like it because "A:EMH did everything right". While I disagree with that idea, one of the things I think Avengers Assemble did better was show what the Avengers did in their downtime. (Which is not simply them eating Falcon's mom's cookies, as big of a deal that's made out to be.) We get to them have fun around the tower, relaxing, and really get into their lives outside of fighting crime. Earth's Mightiest Heroes occasionally did that, but most of the series was devoted to progressing the over-arcing plot for each episode. Again, most of the time. I'm not denying that the Avengers ever did anything fun around the Mansion in A:EMH, but I wish we could have seen more of that than what we got.

I think what a lot of people don't realize is that Wasp was practically useless. Most people seem to remember her more for her personality, cuteness factor, and quirky jokes. Though in all honesty...she really stunk on the battlefield 9 times out of 10; only causing minimal damage or giving the last punch. If it weren't for the fact that she was a founding member in the comics, and to bring relationship tension between her and Hank, she could have been easily removed from the series all together.

As far as stories go, yeah I think Avengers: EMH had more interesting ones. I don't think it's fair to say that Avengers Assemble's stories or in general sucked because it wasn't done in the same vain as A:EMH. The show most certainly doesn't talk down to children, I can tell you that right now. You don't need dry humor and a slightly more serious tone to be fit for a younger audience. It's more that some people aren't comfortable with the writing style of the show, and will pick apart anything that's remotely 'silly' in any way (Falcon's mom's cookies) and make it out as the most juvenile thing to ever happen to the characters. If we're comparing actions shows intended for kids, I would say TMNT 2K12 dumbs itself down more than Avengers Assemble ever did. A lot of people wouldn't be willing to admit that, but I just did, and I like both shows on their own.

Of course the opinion card is going to be pulled, even though I'm speaking from a logical standpoint. If you think the show is utterly stupid and not worth your time, I can totally respect that. I just don't want people to say what they think is right for kids, and what's not. That goes for all these new Marvel toons on at the moment.

It's official: I have now preordered GTA VI for PlayStation 5; the more expensive and feature-complete Ultimate Edition of the game, that is. I also intend to buy a PS5 Slim optical drive next month(?) in the hopes of maybe indirectly convincing SIE to reverse its controversial plans to go all-digital on all post–Jan 2028 PS console games, even though GTA VI is a digital-only game.
