"Marvel's Avengers Assemble" News & Discussion Thread, Part 4 (Spoilers)

I'm glad to see the Squadron Supreme is sticking around even though they have no personalities at all I still love how they're doing something that's never been done in a Marvel cartoon. To bad there's no DC cartoon going on for the show to lampoon since that's kind of what the team is about.

They have some personality. Speed Demon is a fast guy whose like a kid, Power Princess is a blood knight warrior who loves to fight, Nighthawk is the brooding, logical one, Hyperion is an arrogant and showing boating moron with a temper and Doctor Spectrum seems to be...the ineffective, smart one who never uses his powers...

Out of all of them, Doctor Spectrum seems to be the least developed, despite being the person to have the most visible signs of annoyance with Nighthawk's insults. I'm looking forward to his episode.

Bloom played Superman's evil counterpart Ultraman at one point, so that sort of counts.

It is odd how April Stewart could go this long without ever playing any DC character.
Oh! I forgot he was Ultraman! I just originally thought it was appropriate enough because he was EMH Cap, but that works too ;).

Looking forward to these episodes. Thank the heavens the writers realized that there are other villains in the Marvel Universe besides Red Skull, MODOK, and Loki. Of course, it seems like they're just having the Squadron Supreme be this season's Cabal, but it's still a breath of fresh air... for now.

I think it's pretty cool they're doing a mini-arc for the Squadron Supreme. Their previous episodes have been more entertaining than most of the show. It's a little weird Hulk is the one who has to confront Speed Demon, though I guess we'll see how the story works out. The Doctor Spectrum story will hopefully be good too. He hasn't really done much in his other appearance and I think he could be a pretty interesting character, if done right. I wonder if other members of the Squadron will appear in the "Avengers' Last Stand" episode, since the description mentions the fully-formed Squadron Supreme. If it's the same members as before, they already fought the Avengers in the "Dark Avengers" story. But then again it wouldn't be the first time this show repeats a story idea. All in all though, I'm kind of looking forward to these new episodes.

Honestly, I would like the Squadron Supreme to be "reformed" somehow. I mean, each time I see this guys, I can't avoid to think of their "originals", DC's superheroes (the Justice League). See them in continuous battle against the Avengers is a lame attempt to continue the classic (and already lame) Marvel vs DC. Marvel Animation can't use the X-Men or the 4F, right? Well, then the Squadron Supreme looks like an appropiated replacement for an "alternative superhero's group". With Hulk still here, is difficult to think about the Agents of SMASH. Honestly, I would like to see Hyperion facing the Penance Stare of the Ghost Rider. He could surely survive, but I doubt he will be able to be "unaffected" after that.

By the way, I have a feeling that there will be more members joining this Squadron Supreme. You know, to match the Avengers in numbers. Let's see, it would be three of these six:
+ Amphibian: Aquaman's counterpart, similar to Marvel's Namor. Attuma could mirror him as an evil version of Aquaman too.
+ Skrullian Skymaster: Martian Manhunter's counterpart, quite similar to the Super-Skrull.
+ Tom Thumb: Atom's counterpart, counteracting Ant-Man's abilities.
+ Lady Lark: Originally, counterpart of Black Canary, but then became counterpart of HawkGirl. They could accept another female in their group. Her abilities mirror Falcon's somehow.
+ Golden Archer: Green Arrow's counterpart, perfect rival for Hawkeye. It can find an evil version in Trickshot too, from the Circus of Crime.
+ Arcanna: Zatanna's counterpart and potential rival for the Scarlet Witch.

Why doesn't Cyborg have a Squadron counterpart still?

Why haven't we seen a SS Teen Titans? Lol.

Also gang, I have a small preview clip of Terminal Velocity, seems Hyperion also makes an appearance. Its nothing serious but here it is:

Cyborg's been a member of the main Justice League for years now though.

Although it is weird DC's equivalent has got an alternate universe with all of Marvel's main heroes and villains. The SS doesn't even have there own Lex or Joker.

You don't say, I didn't know.

Squadron Supreme's publication history has always been weird, where they jump from good to evil depending who is writing. They aren't well fleshed out, I agree.

In this show, whoever their villains were, they're probably dead, given how the Squadron treats it's enemies and this doesn't factor in an exploding planet.

Here's a preview for "Terminal Velocity":

Hulk with super-speed could be pretty interesting, I guess.

I wonder if Agents of S.M.A.S.H has had an influence on AA's writing of Hulk? He's not as single-minded as he was in Season 1 and I actually really love it when Hulk reminds his teammates that he was pound for pound the best nuclear/gamma scientist on the face of the Earth before becoming the Hulk.

Newest episode was godlike, had good action, good dialogue, hyper competent villains and Thor with actually good trash talk. I'm so excited for the rest of season 2 and season 3.

Hulk not just being "the strongest one there is", but "the fastest one alive" too. That would be funny if Hulk had kept this power. Too bad he also smash when he's running. You know?, I would have liked to see Quicksilver with the Avengers here. It would have been like the classic "Quicksilver vs Flash" fights when Marvel and DC have a crossover.

I bet all my money that Ultron will have the design of the movies... unfortunately, because it's one of the worst character designs, but you know... synergy!

Well Ultron's past design really didn't look like his movie version. In fact at this point, the Avengers (sans Hulk and Thor) don't really resemble their current movie counterparts very much, save for the brief period where Cap was wearing his Winter Soldier suit (and even that was a year out of date at that point).

And unless they already have concept art and stuff for Captain Marvel's movie, they might end up deviating there as well.

Yeah, for all the movie synergy Marvel tries to implement, they usually don't do it as well as they could, even if XD or Disney might have partial blame in how long they take to air episodes. Falcon's gone through two costume changes but he still doesn't look, or act, like MCU Falcon, and Cap's Winter Soldier costume and SHIELD employment was very late by the time it showed up (and was only used for 4 episodes).

If they wanted the Avengers' looks to match their movie counterparts, Thor would stop wearing his helmet, Ant-Man wouldn't have his mask open all the time, Iron Man would be in a new Armor every episode, and Black Widow would have several different hairstyles :p.

But yeah, when Ultron pops back up, I hope they don't try and just implement his movie design into his new form after already using his iconic look. Though I wouldn't be surprised if the show takes the opportunity to just outright use a modified version of his movie origin after not bothering for his appearances here.

Dude, Spectrum's powers sound epic. I thought his power was going to be something stupid like using willpower and light to create constructs. Like son, who would ever take such a dumb combination seriously?

It's official: I have now preordered GTA VI for PlayStation 5; the more expensive and feature-complete Ultimate Edition of the game, that is. I also intend to buy a PS5 Slim optical drive next month(?) in the hopes of maybe indirectly convincing SIE to reverse its controversial plans to go all-digital on all post–Jan 2028 PS console games, even though GTA VI is a digital-only game.
Happy anniversary to "SpongeBob's Big Birthday Blowout".
Here's the Totally Spies' 25th anniversary music video:
