Nintendo 3DS - General Talkback Thread 2

I wonder why they are waiting until next year to release it outside of Japan instead of just releasing it around the same time like usual?

Anyone think the 7th gen Pokemon games are being made for this?

I thought about that earlier after reading that they are making games exclusive to this new 3DS system. It's entirely possible, but I'm not so sure about that given that this upgrade seems more along the lines of a DSi rather than a brand new handheld system. With the exceptions of Crystal and the fifth generation games, they usually wait until a brand new handheld system, rather than an upgraded one, to put out new main series Pokemon games. I think it would depend on how many exclusive games they plan to make for this system and how long they plan on having the sixth generation last.

Although, if they keep up having a new game released every year, they could start off the next generation in two years with the third version/sequels to X/Y coming out next year. I'm not sure if that would be the case exactly, especially when the anime's pace isn't nearly as rushed as BW's pacing was, but it's a possibility, especially when they usually do put out main series Pokemon games on the newest system about two years after they're released. This still seems more like an upgraded version rather than a brand new system, but putting Pokemon games, main series or spin-off, would be one of the sure fire ways to get me to buy this system. The large blue new 3DS does look pretty nice, but unless something like Pokemon comes out exclusively for it, I don't plan on buying it anytime soon.

I only bought a DSi because the top screen on my DS stopped working, and I'll treat this new 3DS the same way. If my regular 3DS dies, I'll get this new one, if not, I'll just wait until the next generation in a couple years.

I wouldn't expect a whole lot of exclusives for the New 3DS, probably just a few, and I'm sure they'll be playable on the next generation.

I haven't picked up a 3DS yet, I've already adapted to the modern console trend that after a couple of years there will be a better model with more features, more games and at a better price, so I tend not to go for them when until that happens. Since the 3DS has such a nice library now, I may just have to get myself one.

Not sure if I'll get the "New" 3DS or not. I was a day-one adopter of the 3DS, and it's been on the fritz for a while now so I think it's time to upgrade for me. On the other hand, I only play Pokemon & LoZ on it (with Smash Bros. soon to join them), so I'm not sure if it would be worth plopping down another $200 for something I'd play 5 games on.

Ugh, I hope none of my must-buy games are exclusive to this new version. I'd really rather not have to buy a new one until it's actually a completely new system.

Companions,

i was planning on buying a 3ds xl but i guess i'll wait until this new version comes out. hopefully its no more than $150....

Considering the Game Boy Color and Nintendo DSi are the only systems that can be classified as upgraded instead of completely new, I don't see how that can be considered an exception.

This already seems different to the DSI though. The DSi had exclusive games that used the camera and/or the DSi's Internet settings. There was no cards that actually used the DSI's extra power (unlike this which the first announced exclusive is because it's using the new system's power).

Another game I expect a new installment for this is Mario & Luigi.

Doesn't the DS lite also count as an upgrade instead of a completely new system? There is also the DSi XL, but I'm not sure if the 2DS could be considered an upgrade from the 3DS. I believe that Pokemon Crystal was made exclusively for the Game Boy Color, while Gold and Silver could still be played on a regular Game Boy as well as on the GBC. They didn't make any Pokemon games exclusive to the DSi, as far as I know, and just kept the fifth generation on the DS instead of moving onto a brand new handheld system like they normally do with a new generation. It's certainly possible that they could be making the next generation of Pokemon for this system. I'm just not sure if they'll go that route, especially when it doesn't quite feel like the sixth generation only has two years left and they've only made one Pokemon game for an upgraded system in the past. It might become more likely depending on how many games they plan on making exclusive to this New 3DS system. I don't think that there were too many games exclusive to the DSi.

I could definitely see them getting another Mario and Luigi game for this system. Putting some big titles like Pokemon, Mario and Zelda would certainly make more people want to get the system.

When you said "upgraded" I thought you were referring to the DSi's extra ram (and the changes between the original Game Boy & Game Boy Color). Systems like the DS Lite and the XL systems are just different models.

It's true that you could play the fifth generation on the DS but they did have DSi features. I remember on another board that people were annoyed over the region locking as a result.

I don't think that there were too many games exclusive to the DSi.

There seems to be only three DSi only game cards. Foto Showdown, Picture Perfect Hair Salon, and System Flaw.

But not the "NEW" 3DS. These are just new editions of the current model.

Also of note is that the Smash Bros edition (also available in blue) will not actually include a copy of Smash Bros and the NES and Persona Q (no game included) editions are Gamestop exclusives.

@River26 Can you switch to a non-crappy image host? Those images aren't loading even after 5 minutes of waiting.

Sure, it's from Pictr that I hosted the image.

How's this?

There's a new Firmware update that adds the Theme Shop for the 3DS menu. There are five pre-installed themes (Red, Blue, Yellow, Pink and Black) and you can buy several Nintendo-themed ones for a couple of bucks, including several Mario and Zelda ones.

Just downloaded that several minutes ago. It's great. When I get another prepaid card I'll buy a few themes.

I really like the new themes. None of the ones with characters appealed to me, but I like the look of the basic blue theme. I might get a Pokemon theme if they include those someday. I'd definitely buy a Lucario or Mega Lucario theme for my 3DS.

I'm running really low on space on my original 3DS. Buying that Zexal game last month took up a lot more block than I had expected. With updates for X/Y available and a couple of games that I would like to download within the near future, I think that I need to get a new SD card. Has anyone here had to transfer their data from an SD card to a new one? I've read up about how to go about doing it, but I wanted to make sure that games that you download from the Nintendo eShop transfer as well. I wouldn't want to be forced into buying new copies of my downloaded games, especially when I've done so much with Pokemon Battle Trozei. The SD card I have came with the 3DS, so I think that means it has 2GB worth of space, although I could be mistaken about that. What would be the best replacement SD card to get?

Also, I'm using a Mac OS X laptop. Would I be able to use that in order to transfer the data from the old SD card into the new one?

I'll also be needing to buy a bigger SD and been wondering how to transfer. I can't get Shantae rn because of lack of space, so I'll be buying it after I transfer Glalie and the oher items to AS, which will leave me the exact amount of space needed for Shantae. But then I'll need a bigger card probably.

They don't have the SD card I bought anymore, but this newer version would work just fine as well.

Yes, that will still work with the SD card slot on a Mac. Follow the guide Nintendo provides and you'll be fine. All you're doing is copying the data from one card to your computer and then pasting it onto the new SD card. Extremely easy.

It's National StreetPass Weekend this weekend, so be sure to have your 3DS with you when you're out and about!

All right, just in time when Nintendo released a new Puzzle Panel for Fantasy Life. Mostly need the purple pieces for that one. I normally go to my local Nintendo Zone relay points to get StreetPasses anyway, but getting different people would be a nice change of pace.
