Nintendo 3DS - General Talkback Thread 2

I'm leery of the N3DS because of Pokemon Crystal.

If that doesn't make sense, then I'm dating myself.

It sort of depends on how committed Nintendo is to providing exclusive software/perks to existing software.

For instance, the only New 3DS game lined up (that we know of) is a port of a Wii game, and I can take or leave the exclusive features of Smash and Majora's Mask 3D.

Unless something big hits, I can skip it like I did the DSi.

Hopefully they can come up with something else, like a Mario game. I might get this for Christmas. If there's not an improvement in game selection, then...

I traded in the 3DS XL I got last year for the new one today. Actually did the trade-in a week ago. I was, admittedly, ignorant about how obtuse the Nintendo Network ID system is. Fortunately, Nintendo's customer support is really nice and they started the process to unlink it and link it to my new system. I'm a bit afraid they may have gotten my e-mail wrong, as I had to tell them it over the phone and it's a bit complicated, but they gave me a reference number so it should be fine. From what I've read, it normally only takes them a few hours, but today they're extra busy so I'll wait until Monday. If I don't get an e-mail by then, I'll contact support.

I could never get 3D to work on the old system. I watched the 3D Visual Experience video that came on the system and, at first, I couldn't see any 3D. But by the end of it, it seemed to be working. Not all of the time, but definitely enough to notice. I might try to keep the 3D set to max on this thing.

Of course, all of the games I bought last year are gone. All I have left is Animal Crossing. I'll get the new Harvest Moon next month, even though is not called Harvest Moon anymore.

The system definitely feels lighter. I like that. I don't like the stylus being at the bottom. It'll take some getting used to.

And again, the smaller-sized system is unannounced. After watching the Nintendo Direct, I emailed NoA, asking them why the boxart for Xenoblade Chronicles 3D says "Only for New Nintendo 3DS" and not "Only for New Nintendo 3DS XL", asking them if they've heard or read about #OperationFaceplateNA, and begging them that I don't have to move to Europe to buy one. Some time later, I got a response from Jordan Stark, a worker at NoA.
I need to let you know that Nintendo typically does not respond to or take into consideration game petitions or write-in campaigns when planning future releases. While you may not know this, there are a variety of reasons that influence what games and products may be localized for our region.

I know this will be disappointing to hear, but we don't have anything to announce at this time for the release of New Nintendo 3DS in the Americas. However, I can tell you that careful consideration was taken on this decision. Different territories make their own business decisions regarding individual products and timing, and we think New Nintendo 3DS XL makes the most sense for our market. Nintendo makes different systems at different price points for a whole range of consumers.

They did thank me for the feedback, though, and have added my comments to their records for consideration.

International StreetPass Week is running now through the 26th of the month (a bit more than a week, but it's what they're calling it). You'll be able to get Mii characters from across the globe by visiting Nintendo Zones.

In addition to this, two new StreetPass Plaza games have launched, ultimate Angler (a fishing game) and Battleground Z (zombie-fighting game). They can be bought for $4.99 each or $7.99 in a bundle. There is also a discount for anyone who purchased the previous StreetPass games.

I do like the new games they added to the Plaza. Battleground Z is a fun beat em up that uses the "I like to do this" statements from the Streetpass profile to give you weapons based on that statement. Ultimate Angler is a pretty decent fishing game over all. You use bait based on the colors of the Miis you Streetpass, you can use them as they are or combine them to increase your chances of getting more fish. That new update is pretty nifty. I do like the ability to put the Streetpass games you've beaten into the Game Vault so they don't ask you if you would like to play or go to your gate. Was kinda of annoyed that every time I clear our my tags that I would ignore Flower Town and Find Mii due to already beating those games or already have what I need from them. That and rearranging the games you have in your plaza as well.

Also, for people that want to rack up major tags from this event. Home Depot is like a gold mine due to how many wi-fi relays there are in the store. Every time I go there during these events, I always get like 9 for Streetpass Mii Plaza.

Nintendo put out a new "micro" Nintendo Direct video today (Japan got it yesterday) with a few new titles being announced ahead of E3, including a brand-new, side-scrolling Chibi Robo for the 3DS (and an amiibo as well).

Edit: Also Bravely Second: End Layer officially announced for 3DS and will be coming in 2016.

They didn't even show the Animal Crossing game.. Don't tell me we're going to have another New Leaf situation. Lol.

Considering that game is built around amiibo cards and there's quite a lot of them, there's a lot more to localize than just the game.

So yeah, I'm expecting that one to take a while.

I just hope the smaller-sized system will finally be announced tomorrow, since tomorrow's the last day of E3 2015.

Ngh... Nintendo of America just struck out. Strike 1 was the January 15 Nintendo Direct (the smaller-sized New Nintendo 3DS was not announced). Strike 2 was the April 1 Nintendo Direct (again, the smaller-sized system wasn't announced). And now, Strike 3, the Digital Event (this is the third time the smaller-sized system didn't get announced).

Oh, well. Guess there's no choice but to buy a Japanese New 3DS and a US New 3DS XL motherboard from eBay and create a modded non-XL New 3DS like NoodleVision did.

...How could you say Nintendo struck out when we got an unexpected Zelda title and Link in a dress?

So the US isn't getting the smaller DS. It's not like they're denying the audience an entire platform.

Watched Toy Story 5 today. It felt like another awesome escapade for the characters, while also they taught an important lesson: it's ok to be different, especially if you still like to play with toys. Lily turned from an antagonist to a hero of the movie, because of realising exactly that.
