Ok. I'm very excited about this one.
Well, to be honest the trailer didn't exactly do it for me. I don't know the original story, but Damian here sounds and looks annoying
Let's hope so!The original story is far more insane and interesting than could probably ever be done justice in one movie. It's part of a 7 year epic Batman story that had tons of layers to it. But Damian, at least as written by Grant Morrison, is an awesome, hilarious and touching character. Hope the movie gets that right, at least.
That looks great! I love Damian, so I've been looking forward to this. The designs and animation look fine to me.
Man, I haven't been here in awhile, and I come back to comment on a trailer and get hit with an old debate..LOL
Anyway, you lost me, because I don't agree with what you are saying about Killing Joke and The Long Halloween -- they are both acclaimed stories. Just because they aren't on the same level as Frank Miller's stuff, which extended beyond casual comic readers, does not make them unacclaimed within the comic-book-reading fanbase.
But okay, we haven't seen too many of Batman's "acclaimed" stories adapted yet, but that doesn't mean that those stories in their original form didn't contribute to his popularity and the demand for more Batman. I'm not even sure what the original comments or what the debate was we were having at this point (and I don't have time right now to go back and re-read the thread), but I will say that Batman has a lot more stories than any other character in the DC universe that are actually worth reading, and unfortunately Superman doesn't compare, despite having a lot of great ones. That's just my opinion, but it seems to agree with his level of popularity and a majority of comic book "must-read" lists.
The trailer was awesome. I'm so hyped for this. They're reusing Deathstroke's design from the Flashpoint movie which is awesome, because I think that's his best design yet. It also means Phil Bourassa did the designs for this too. And speaking of Deathstroke I'm glad he's getting a big role in this cause I feel like he's one of DC's best and most under utilized villains, tho that's been changing in recent years. Has the cast list been released yet? I really like who they got to do Batman, and the others sound good so far too.
Jeph Loeb is a very critically panned writer among the comic book reading fanbase.
I'm saying I don't think "quantity of critically acclaimed stories" has anything to do with Batman getting more films, or else those stories you are citing as critically acclaimed would be the ones getting the adaptation treatment when they're clearly not, aside from Frank Miller's two seminal books. If you're saying that quantity is why he's more popular, then fair enough, though I probably argue that it's really only the Miller books and then later the Burton movies that elevated his popularity, not Long Halloween and Hush.
I'm saying quality and quanity. Writers, artists and fans are drawn to Batman more than any other character, which gives him a higher number of stories overall, with a higher number of stories that are acclaimed/appreciated than any other character.
EDIT: Well, after watching the trailer, this seems to have almost nothing in common with Grant Morrison's "Batman and Son", so I guess it can be thought of as an original feature.
Well, Bruce and Talia did have...y'know. Talia just drugged Bruce's drink before they did it so she could get pregnant anyway. So I haven't read the comics featuring Damian, but I recall reading he was grown in a lab, or something like that. Any chance this movie could have his birth actually be the result of a sexual encounter between Bruce and Talia, rather than being explained in some other way?
