Alright, I have recently heard that Sentai Filmworks obtained the Tokyo Mew Mew reboot. I hope it gets dubbed. And this is the official talkback thread dedicated to the Tokyo Mew Mew reboot that is Tokyo Mew Mew NEW.
But speaking of the dubbing, here is what I collected from the Anime News Network forum:
1. Cardcaptor Takato says: I also won't be surprised that even if Sentai does dub the new TMM it will likely be with an entire new TX cast and they won't bring back any of the 4Kids cast from the original, though I have heard some of the 4Kids cast had expressed an interest in reprising their roles for the reboot.
2. 1dbad says: Considering the Japanese version of Tokyo Mew Mew New recast everyone, I wouldn't mind if the dub did the same thing. I believe only one or two of the English Mew VAs are still active anyway.
3. Cardcaptor Takato says: I would agree in the case of a reboot it’s less imperative to bring back the original cast. I was pretty neutral about them bringing back the original cast for Shaman King and I would be fine with a recast here for TMM. But I wouldn’t say no to getting to hear some of those NY dub VAs again. I know Erica Schroeder who was Lettuce in Mew Mew Power did come back to voice Lyserg in the Shaman King reboot.
4. PurpleWarrior13 s:ays Very interesting that it didn't go to Crunchyroll, but I'm happy to see TMM will be available in the US again. Hopefully they give it a decent dub, but I'm not expecting anyone from the original anime's 4Kids dub to reprise. Realistically, the only ones I could ever see returning would be Erica Schroeder (Lettuce), Scottie Ray (Aoyama), and maybe Oliver Wyman (Pie). Amanda Brown (Ichigo) vanished off the face of the earth 15 years ago, Andi Whaley (Mint) I believe moved to Colorado, Kether Donohue (Pudding) has gotten pretty big with her theatre and live action work, Mollie Weaver (Zakuro) is mostly a singer and barely ever did much dubbing, Sean Schemmel (Ryou) doesn't seem to do much outside reprising his Dragon Ball roles, Andrew Rannells (Quiche and Keiichiro) has gotten very big with his theater and on-camera work, and James Carter Cathcart (Tart) seems to only do Pokemon these days (and he was a bad miscast anyway). It's a shame the 4Kids cast never got a chance to dub their roles in a complete, faithful dub because most of them were pretty good. I wouldn't mind seeing Discotek reissuing that dub for nostalgia, and maybe we'll finally see an official uncut subtitled release of the original series.
5. 1dbad says: I'd love to see Erica Schroeder reprise! She's a great actress. It's funny. I've always found Scottie Ray miscast as Aoyama in the original series, but I could maybe see him working for the reboot.
That said, I'm expecting a full Texas cast if we get a dub. Not sure who I'd like to see outside of Colleen Clinkenbeard for Zakuro and Josh Grelle for Quiche.
6. PurpleWarrior13 s:ays: Yeah, Scottie Ray sounded too old as Aoyama, but he otherwise captured the character pretty nicely IMO. The dub will probably be a Houston-based cast, so Colleen is unlikely. I'm personally hoping for Monica Rial as Ichigo, Luci Christian as Mint, Brittany Karbowski as Pudding, Christina Kelly as Zakuro, Bryson Baugus as Ryo, and Greg Ayres as Quiche (though he'll probably be cast as Tart).
7. 1dbad says: Wouldn't Tart be played by a female VA to match the Japanese? And that's a great cast list! Only tweak I'd make would be swapping Monica and Brittany. Who would you cast as Masaya and Pie? Who do you think Sentai might cast as Quiche instead of Greg?
8. PurpleWarrior13 s:ays: Sentai still seems to cast Greg in roles played by females in Japanese (he even took over for Amanda C. Miller as Takeru in Squid Girl Season 2), and Tart seems like a typical Greg Ayres role. I could see Adam Gibbs as Masaya (he was voiced by Megumi Ogata in the original series, but has a male seiyú this time), Ry McKeand as Quiche, Gareth West as Keiichiro, and David Wald as Pie. I’m not sure who I’d see as Lettuce. Maybe Emily Neves?
